You may all be interested in knowing that at the Albany Common Council meeting on Thursday night, Councilman Commisso cited the PILOT agreement with Union College and Schenectady in his attempt to knock St. Rose down. What a dope. In fact I was amazed at how dopey some of those council members are--the progressives were a PITA. |

and don't forget that the entire revitalization of bringing MVP downtown was a Metroplex "job creating" work, pulling jobs out of Rotterdam to get people working downtown. MVP used to have a portion of their employees working in R.I.P. (Rotterdam Industrial Park, since renamed Rotterdam Corporate Park on Duanesburg Road). |

MVP used to have a portion of their employees working in R.I.P. (Rotterdam Industrial Park, since renamed Rotterdam Corporate Park on Duanesburg Road).
MVP also had its office in the Stockade approx 10 years ago. This million dollar building (with a parking garage) has since remained empty. The Plex never recouped the hundreds of thousands lost from the failed Big House or the former Van Dyke owner. Finally, the 'job creation' from Plex projects is from waitressing, bartending and dishwashing labor. Minimum wage jobs without health benefits. If the goals of the Plex have not been fulfilled (job creations, lessening of the tax burden), then it's time to end it. If the Metroplex was abolished and the sales tax revenues were simply going back to the county - there would be MILLIONS of more dollars. Money which could help the neighborhoods, it could help the schools, it could help the people...not connected businessowners. The City would have to shift its focus to improving the neighborhoods and creating a safe environment for the residents rather than having millions spent in vain for a Downtown. If people won't stay or move into the City, then all your millions spent Downtown mean nothing. |

Yes improve the neighborhoods. MT. Pleasant has become such a dangerous area. I suspect with the retirement of Fr. Urban that church may close and the folks will be shifted to Mt. Carmel for now. Could be wrong but I can imagine that. The churches that held the neighborhoods together are closing one by one. Soon there will only be two or maybe three Catholic Churches in Schenectady. The old priests who were devoted to building and supporting community are retired or soon retiring. The few who are left to replace them are not devoted to that mission. |

The exact same thing happened to St Mary's on Eastern Ave. The beautiful school closed and then the church and rectory were closed and still remain for sale. Look at the utter ruin in that once solid Polish neighborhood. Only a bodega remains open. Hope Boomer is wrong but what if St Al's closed? What private business would by it? Another empty shell waiting for the City demolition team. Don't forget that Denise Brucker wanted to tax St Al's because they rented to the City Schools. Contempt for the important role churches play in maintaining City neighborhoods. |

I agree with you. It seems that as the older more religiously convicted die off, the younger ones aren't there to fill that gap. It is happening not only in the catholic church, but with all churches. And I also agree that it was the churches that held the community together. Things have sadly changed. People either have not time, or they just are more secular today. Or perhaps both. In either case....Mt. Pleasant, which was a great area, with great people, has now become the 2nd hamilton hill of schenectady county. What a shame. |

The neighborhoods will not stabilize without private sector job creation, That won't happen until taxes are lowered. Hamilton Hill expanded into Mt Pleasant, Vale and up Eastern Avenue. Metrograft was an failed attempt to spark some economic activity by increasing County sales taxes. Just the opposite happened, private business fled and empty stores were filled with nonprofits. Death Ray is being hammered by taxpayers demanding an end game. This is not sustainable. MVP moved from the Stockade/Rotterdam Downtown. Marcella's fled Crane St for Downtown. Golub and Villa both left Rotterdam for Downtown. Where are the out of State companies? Where are the new jobs? Where is the taxpayer dividend? |

St. Mary's church. A beautiful bldg. inside and out. Just what do you do with such a treasure? The options are limited and being in it's locale also hampers it's future. Could use some "divine intervention". |

Can someone translate gibberish into English? Everyone's wrong except you and your buddy DVR-lol. Great idea! Send a factually challenged fax to actual news organizations. This is too easy. Make sure all Metrograft subscriptions are current. Have a couple of pitchers of Kool aid on hand later this week. |
