I was over in the area and there were signs up letting people know to vote yes on the proposed sewers.  The question is, none of these signs had a date.  Is there a date, or are they just trying to start encouraging people to vote yes and looking for a date in the future at some time?  Is this going through the Hamburg Street Merchants Association (HSMA, for future reference)?

This comes directly from a businessman expert (above) who ran which(?) business successfully and know what(?) about business and how(?) developers invest? Now are you talking about engineering firms that design sewer systems as businesses? Companies that make sewer pipe, or companies that tear up roads and install sewer systems? Are you say THOSE kind of businesses want sewers on Hamburg street? Because if you are then I will agree with you 100%.

As far as the other "developers" (I am not sure he knows what a "developer" even does) then please give us some kind of concrete examples. Do the proerty owners KNOW how much it is going to cost them in the short and long run?

It's really going to be a hard sell to the residents of that area. For them to take on $1K won't be easy for them to swallow.

I have some friends and relatives who live in that area, and they remember when hamburg street was thriving for years WITHOUT sewers. They remember the old bowling alley (rolling greens) that burned down. They remember the old grand union that left because they closed many stores. They remember the ice cream store. They remember that CVS left to relocate to chrysler ave. They remember that none of them left because there were no sewers.

It's gonna be a tough sell, especially in these economic hard times.

This is the Administrations attempt to CHANGE THE CONVERSATION.  Seems like odd timing for a multimillion dollar project to be proposed on the heels of a Mohon tax increase was just shot down. So now they think property owners in the Mohon School District are going to pay $900 to $1300 for sewers?

The sewers are long overdue --- we desperately need them on Hamburg Street --- the sewers will bring in developers who will add to the tax base of the town  -------  we need MORE tax base if we are ever going to lower property taxes.   I know - personally - of at least 1 property that WILL be developed IF the sewers go in ... but the developer will walk away if nothing is done.

GB is correct the residents must be told of the total cost of the sewer project to the resident such as immediate cost, long range cost and hookup costs which could be sizable.

What's the developer promising to build, a multimillion dollar factory that will employ 100+ people with good paying jobs?  Right near the rollerskating rink, tuxedo shop, and senior center?  Sewers need to go town wide, not this patch work sh!t.

Rotterdam is an older community.  For many, when weighing the ROI versus the number of years left on earth, putting in sewer doesn't make much sense.

People are NOT buying this bullcrap story about needing businesses to lower property taxes. That is a bill of goods that they tried to sell the folks in the city. How's that working out for them?

Everyone knows that whenever a new business opens or relocates.....it doesn't pay property taxes for years....if ever. The recover gin mill has already taken $20K of taxpayer's money. How much will they be paying in property taxes? Howlong did Mallozzi's go without paying property taxes....now it's up for sale. How about Bombers, Paul Mitchell, Marcellas, Villa Italia.....etc....

So now they want the residents to foot the bill for sewers, at about $1000, so a business will come to town. Then to add insult to injury...the taxpayers will pay the businesses share of taxes too!!!! Just like they are for Railex, Fedex and the golub freezer!!!

Try to sell that one the already over burdened taxpayers!!!

true......this conversation was 'smoke' during the last ADMIN......as far as a property owner leaving they bet on the ghost horse and
feel slighted....although I am for the sewers(I have no business in the area), I think the cost should be laid out NOW.....not after
