There is nothing downtown that interests me. There is no way Im going to shop or hand out money to some business that is there for a free tax break. Why should I pay them so they can laugh all the way to the bank while the home owners are crying because that same bank is taking their home away. |

Maybe you should try a cannoli at Perecca's. A family business which has been in Schenectady for generations, has paid thousands upon thousands of dollars in property and school taxes and, in my opinion, are about the nicest people you'll ever meet. |

Proctor's-the major force for Downtown? A force for expanding tax exemptions, non profit self dealing, continuation of the DEM New County Order, continuation of record taxes on residences and small businesses and high employment. That's the whole problem. An out of control nonprofit that refuses to pay anything is a force. |

Good question. My understanding is that the Muddy Cup had a pretty tight lease. A few years ago the Cup went to court to keep their lease and won. I can't see them backing out of a lease they've fought to keep in the past. Would like to see the price Proctors paid for the buyout...wasn't cheap. |

You've nailed it. Desperation for money. When you continue to lose over one million dollars "managing" a theatre, the taxpayers are nailed to the wall-then you seek other options to fleece. Take over the money losing coffeehouse forget the $10,000 monthly rent, takeover the Community TV and keep all the cable fees, takeover Key Bank take it off City tax rolls for inhouse caterer, takeover ticket sales at CapRep and pocket the fee. Of course, refuse to pay ANY fair share PILOT. Repay nothing to the County nor City taxpayers. |
