I am glad that the Mayor is going to the Canal Corp ..  Ms. Mantella was a strong proponent of our Bicentenniel Park -- proposed for Canal Corp lands ... and ...  I expect that Mr. Stratton will push hard so we can see this proposal become a reality.

Ms. Mantella was a strong proponent for your park but you still rather see her replaced by an incompetent based solely on partisan concerns. The usual nonsense. The Canal Corp must be disbanded. It's another taxpayer sinkhole that Cuomo promised to abolish when running for Governor. Hope this appointment is rejected by the REPS in the State Senate.

Stratton would be the first local official tapped. A source said he will not take the place of the now-resigned commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles, as had been rumored.

What's interesting is that John Woodward was also asked about the DMV position - it's unknown if he's considered it.

If this is true about Woodward...are you saying he declined in light of recent events appointing the former Broome Co Clerk instead?  Are you kidding me....Woodward turned the DMV commish post down???  Geez I am perplexed by that one.  How many top level posts are going to the Sch'dy dem operatives anyways?  Isn't capo Gardner's wife the Labor commish?  Then there's Savage still looking perhaps?  Kent Gray is still number three at DMV right?  Stratton is in.  Brehm is up there at SBOE.  Really odd that Woodward apparently declined MT?  Really????

She was going to be replaced anyway -- so I would rather have Mr. Stratton as her replacement.

Also -- the Governor has my phone number -- if he needs someone to head up some other commission.

The Thruway owns the Canal Corp -- but the head of the Canal Corp has no control over Thruway operations or tolls.

If you're saying this, then you've been absolutely oblivious to what has happened as the last 2 times that the tolls have been raised, each supposedly at a 10% rate, which brings the raise of tolls between 25 and 24 up 50%.  The reason that this increase has occurred is due to the fact that the money that is brought in from the Thruway tolls is used on the Canal Corporation, since it can't sustain itself, sort of like Downtown Schenectady and it's funding by the Metroplex.

Kevin, read what I said -- the Canal Corp does not control the Thruway - it is the other way around.   The head of the Canal Corp can not raise Thruway tolls.    The cost of the Canal Corp is a whole different matter -- and yes -- its cost gets passed on to the Thruway costs .. of course ... one quick way to fix that would be to actually raise the tolls on the State Canal -- something the state has resisted for years.

OK, I understand what you're saying, but in a way, the fact that the money from the Thruway has to be spent at this time to continue operations of the Canal Corp is a control that the Corp has over the Authority.  That's what I was saying.  If they could fund themselves, then I would agree with you, but once one reaches into the pocket of the other, they are controlling the money of the other, just like the excessive taxes we pay.

Then who? First you say that she did a good job but then she must be replaced. The Mayor was desperate to leave the fiscal mess he alone created. He gets promoted for screwing the taxpayers for 8 years. Only in New York. Many DEMS are furious that Cuomo gave him anything. While many are rejoicing others are sick of this business as usual crap in Albany. We expected more from Gov Cuomo.

This is what they do in politics. They all take care of their buddies! Reps or dems, it doesn't matter. Qualified or not, it doesn't matter.

I am sure he has your number on speed-dial. Maybe he has the first 6 digits typed in and is ready with the 7th just in case.

More self-important boastings and delusions of grandeur from the non-achiever who thinks he is a power-player.

Stratton has had plenty of practice with backroom dealings and illegal verbal contracts. Wonder how the City workers are going to scramble to lock in the free medical-benefits-for-life the Mayor promised them.

Well, at least Stratton gets to fly the cuckoos nest before the TU discovers more of his quasi-criminal doings. He's certainly representative of all NY State can offer - high taxes, high crime and no loyalty to the taxpayers - just to a party.

This could describe any number of DEMS, Landslide, Death Ray or the resigning Mayor.
