Right on Rachel! After 35 years of running the City into the dirt-don't expect anything for the all DEM clapping seals. Nobody wants it. Complete fiscal disaster from decades of over spending and rewarding dupes. McCarthy doesn't even want to leave his other job.

     Sharon Jordan should be installed as caretaker Mayor. She's been Deputy Mayor and at least will return phone calls something Stratton never did. The DEMS are finished in the City. Roger Hull will win in a landslide. Can't wait to see the DEM City Council working together team. Needed-DEM sacrificial lambs.

Council person, Part-time Mayor, Open Stage Media, Metroplex member, Full-time job.   Are just so many hours in a day.

Great way to cause issue of the breaking the law concerning divulging mental health issues to be overshadowed at priv of floor on Monday.

The fact he has access to much info working at the DA's office who is to say that if he doesn't like a person's position he won't investigate them and intimidate them to back off is another reason.  Proven already!

If he succeeds as PT Mayor does this mean the prev. Mayor did'nt need all that full time?   One would hope all of our now and previous brave men/women who have fought/died for this country were'nt doing so to allow such conduct.

I am glad that the Mayor is going to the Canal Corp ..  Ms. Mantella was a strong proponent of our BicentennielPark -- proposed for Canal Corp lands ... and ...  I expect that Mr. Stratton will push hard so we can see this proposal become a reality.    

Neither does the head of the Thruway. It is the State Legislature that has control. Amedore, Farley, Tedisco. They are the ones who decide.

Some insider political types are still scratching their heads trying to figure out how Mayor Brian U. Stratton landed what amounts to a pretty sweet $125,000 or so patronage plum.
Right after Andrew Cuomo was elected governor, there was an item here speculating that Stratton would get some sort of state appointment.
I had no information; just intuition from following politics since I was a kid hanging around a backyard polling place when FDR was president.
A few Schenectady veteran Democrats pooh-poohed my prediction. They said "never happen'' because Stratton was just a Stratton Democrat who did little for the party.
Later, political pundits said a Stratton appointment was doomed because he got tangled up in a cushy pension deal with Fire Chief Bob Farstad.
Besides my intuition, I recalled Stratton had brought Cuomo to Schenectady during his excellency's former days as state attorney general. He also made some trips to Albany, so they were not strangers.
Now, besides intuition and some concrete, in politics it's always germane to have friends in high places. I recalled Mario M. Cuomo, Andy's dad, and Sam Stratton, Brian's pop, were good friends.
Sam was the Capital Region congressman from 1971-1989. Mario was lieutenant governor from 1979-1982 and governor from 1983-1994. They served concurrently for 11 years.
Back then, Andy knew Sam and liked him. From what I still hear often, just about everybody was a Sam Stratton fan. So I guess what I'm saying is the family ties didn't hurt Brian's appointment chances.
I'm reminded of many years ago when Davis Etkin was under fire by Democrats insisting the longtime OTB czar hired only Republicans. He had lifelong GOP ties.
I recall asking Etkin to respond to the charges. He didn't even blink. "Of course I hire friends. Who am I supposed to hire, the enemy?'' was a response I never forgot.

Some of Stratton’s non-accomplishments

    The Feb. 13 article [“Stratton faced down police force, shored up city’s fi nances”] reported some of [Mayor] Brian Stratton’s accomplishments. I would like to add a few things not listed that have also taken place.
    Schenectady has the highest crime rate in New York state, as reported in a Jan. 2 Gazette article [“Crime earns county No. 1 ranking”]. In addition, Schenectady has one of the worst school systems in the state and the highest property taxes north of New York City.
    City streets are in deplorable condition — the worst in the region, with sunken and collapsed manhole covers and potholes galore in some neighborhoods, many of them from last year. The city also has burnedout, vacant houses that have been sitting for years.
    I witness these conditions on a daily basis as a local driver.
    When Carl Olsen took over as public works commissioner, he claimed things would get better. Except for a four-block radius of downtown, the streets have gotten much worse, which leaves me to say, “sayonara, Brian.”

I just had channel 18 on to see what was going on.  They had the last meeting that Mr. Stratton will be the sitting mayor for the City of Schenectady. They were singing their praises, but they stated how well a job he's already doing as the head of the canal corporation, too.  Did you know that it was Mr. Stratton who made sure that when the snow melted, the Stockade area didn't get flooded?  That's what they said.

The Times Union gives, and Mr. Stratton takes far more credit for non-accomplishments than is deserved.  The only stakes that I know have been raised over the course of Mr. Stratton’s reign is that of what Schenectady Taxpayers have to foot the bill for in terms of our property taxes.
