Lansing Street, Yorkston Street and Crane Street are a mess.     Considering that there is a public elementary school there ... one would think some effort would have been made to plow BOTH lanes of Yorkston and Lansing ---- and, also, remove enough of the snowbank so that students, parents and teachers don't fall and break their arses.    The city and the school district are responsible for cleaning those sidewalks --- at least for the next 2 1/2 years.

This is YOUR MIRACLE DV, the team of Stratton, Gillen, and SAvage that you have nothing but praise for.  You claim the city is "much improved."   But it's NOT.

If YOUR DEM BUDDY MAYOR spent the taxpayer dollars properly, those streets would be cleared properly.  But instead, YOUR DEM BUDDY MAYOR gives the taxpayers' money to the millionaires downtown.

Oh, by the way, your mayor buddy and all his business owner cronies downtown, well, they haven't cleared sidewalks down there either.  I defy anyone in a wheelchair to get on a bus at a bus stop, if they can get to the stop.

DV, YOUR BUDDY MAYOR made the decision MANY TIMES OVER to NOT declare a snow emergency when such a declaration WAS NEEDED and neighboring cities DID declare them.

Stop being an optimist and start being a realist.  The ONLY way that BOTH lanes of a street get plowed is if your buddy mayor declares a snow emergency AND if the plowing dept AND the police dept work TOGETHER to tow cars that are illegally parked.   This is mere common sense, something the mayor does not have.

And, by the way, this IS the way the streets are THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE DAMN CITY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even in a good rain those hills are slick.  Really, they should move to another location.  They do a great business and they dont need this crap.  There are plenty of empty buildings around. There are plenty of empty buildings further up on Broadway with better parking.

I was just on Van Vranken, which many of you know, is a very wide street.  There was at least two places where the road was narrowed so much and cars were parked where there was snow on the sides of the streets, so that two vehicles could not cross each other without one pulling over to the side.

On many issues there are two perspectives, and while you may take one position, the other one is at least defensible.

This issue however, the Mayor Stratton's incompetence is completely indefensible.

Again I point back to when a state of emergency was declared, but no snow emergency.

Disgraceful.

Downtown is MUCH improved -- it is not a ghost town -- there are new businesses and offices.   So I will continue to be an optimist.      And MC can stick his-her head back up his-her butt.

Provide us a list of businesses that are paying more taxes now then before the buildings were fixed up.

Well?????????       And be sure to provide links to official proof

Having driven on streets in Rotterdam, Schenectady, Colonie and Guilderland today,  I think that  the city should find out what those other highway crews put down to melt the snow and ice.

How about if the mayor (of Schenectady) had declared snow emergencies in order to properly plow the streets.   Then a little salt would have taken care of yesterday's nuisance.

But of course, Linda in the mayor's office as well as Teresa Smith in the plowing dept, say "it's very expensive to declare a snow emergency"

Funny, it's too expensive to declare a snow emergency and properly clean the streets, but it's NOT too expensive to give out taxpayer money to the millionaires downtown.

So anyway, DV, what businesses downtown are paying MORE taxes today than before your SOS (symbol of socialism) became mayor?????   For some reason you refuse to answer that question.  Is it that difficult for you to type the words "Under Stratton-Savage-Gillen, there are NO businesses downtown that are paying more property and school taxes than before this team became the leaders."    Is that THAT difficult to type those words?   You DO agree that it's the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, don't you?

It's called salt. They also have newer plows which are out during the storm. Not 3 days later when the snow has frozen over. Van Vranklin Ave is horrible, The parking lanes on both sides are snow banks hurting businesses. Saw some student trying to get out of a plowed in spot on Union Avenue which is also pathetic.

Part of the problem is the condition of the streets. It's hard to plow a street that has potholes and buckling pavement. Mayor SOS and his DEM rubber stamps made a decision not to do routine street repair and not to knock down any abandoned properties. All of them need to be thrown of office in December.

One could only hope for one major snow storm every week that the Lion King plays at Proctors. Let's see how they handle the roads then!!!! Nothing will be plowed except the 'miracle on state street'!

At least the pan handlers, shooters, robbers, drug dealers and prostitutes won't be out!

Yeah -- but there are different kinds of salt.

Maybe Union College could pay its "pilot" in the form of labor -- put the students to work shoveling the snow banks.

How about taxing the tax exempt businesses? And asking Union College (a non profit) to put the students to work shoveling snow banks, then I guess the parishioner of churches should shovel too.....NOT!

The role of government is to provide safe/maintained and passable roads and sidewalks. ALL roads!!

Like I said....hope for snow storms during the lion king.......that will be the last nail in the coffin!!
