Banning texting and blackberrys is just another example of strong arming the residents by dictating as opposed to discussing and communicating. This town board best contact Mr. Freeman for the guidelines regarding Freedom Of Information rules.

Is rotterdam's town board going to ban reporters from texting? It's done globally DAILY........but banned in rotterdam???????

It appears that rotterdamians can still bring in video and voice recording devices as well as laptops and iPADS......just not blackberry's?????

It'll never fly!! They should have contacted Mr. Freeman first.

Common sense........turn the ringer off on your cell phones.

It is ludicrous to ban texting during a public meeting.     It may be okay to ask that people turn their cell phones off -- so as not to interrupt the meeting.  But there are reasons why people may need a cell phone on during the meeting -- as an example -- what if there is an emergency at home and someone is trying to get a hold of a person at the meeting ????????????

I intend to keep my cell phone on during the meeting.    I have never actually used the texting feature -- but maybe this is a good time to start.

If the meetings keep going for several hours -- as has been the case this past year -- would they get upset if we brought some playing cards and had a card game to pass the time ???????????????

My question to the Supervisor and Deputy Supervisor is how come EVERYONE who take the trouble to go down to Town Hall and attend the Town Board meeting  isn't allowed to be a part of the Town Board ??????????????

Why only 5 members of the Town Board ???

Lets submit a resolution and expand the Town Board to 100 or 200 or however many people show up.

The Czar and his Commissar would probably prefer that the peasants wore the work uniforms given to those imprisoned in the gulags.

I agree, and you never know what's going to happen.  In fact, that's the reason that the cell phone was originally invented, so people could find out what was going on when they weren't at home.

I will turn my ringer off, or turn my blackberry to "stun" (vibrate), but I will not be singled out to not be able to use my phone in a public forum.  Maybe they didn't like the way news was getting out before they had a chance to rewrite it?  Was it my (or others) posting of things that were happening at previous meetings before the meeting had ended?  If so, then what reason would you have to stop people from finding out what was happening in the meeting?  They already don't bring the DVD down to put on the appropriate channel (something they no longer pay the videographer to do, hence the reason it hasn't been getting updated in a timely manner since at least September).

By the way, does anyone know what the current contract is with the videographer?  I was talking to him before / after a recent meeting and I know costs have gone up for him.  I suggested that instead of a flat fee, he charge per hour.  I didn't state to raise his rates, but stated that if he considered the normal payment for up to 2 hours of work (which was more than any meetings went prior to the current administration), then divide the per meeting cost by 2 and change the contract to a per hour, making sure he get paid for additional hours behind the camera.

If anyone would like me to text to them what is happening at the meeting, please feel free to send me your phone number to text to.
