anyone of us can look like we care...but to change the system/society is another issue.....and their change doesn't come from the government.....
change has come from government - particularly in a democratic republic where the PEOPLE are the government |

OMG the people are the government lol.
Just look at our local government, people that attend council meetings are smirked at, ignored, the council and mayor turn a deaf ear, they don't listen to us. We had an assessor that literally treated us like shi*, still have the board run by Madonna who will again deny most all grievances even though people have adequate proof their assessments are though the roof. We pay high taxes for crappy city services, we are paying for lawsuits against the city and school district. In the last election almost all ran unopposed so we had NO choice.
At council meetings the people are given three minutes to talk, but the government has all the time in the world to tell us how wonderful Sch'dy is, just look at the beautiful buildings downtown, and the fine bakeries and don't forget Proctors and Key Hall.
Then the county well all you have to look at is the story on Channel 6 and the smirk on Savage's face.
No if the people were the government we would have a say on what goes on at city hall, metroplex etc.
The problem is most people are clueless on what is really going on. It's up to us, the ones on this forum to educate Schenectady taxpayers.
I spoke to a downtown business owner yesterday who's property and school taxes jumped a large percentage. Got talking to this person about metroplex and the tax exempt businesses and he had NO idea !!!
All those who would like to help to get info together about the exemptions etc. contact me. I would like to put a "booklet " together to hand out at the city council meetings and the county meeting and also hand some out to small business owners who are paying high taxes like the rest of us.

Mobile thought of that but with so many different discussions don't know if they'll take the time to read through. Also thinking of those who have no access to internet. Be nice to hand out the info in person. If someone will help with info, I'll print it out and go to Staples to make a bunch of copies.
Should have a title page, gosh that should be fun : ) |

You have flipped over the pyramid.....the government is small and the self-sufficiency of the base is what is required....got it?! |

I can see it now. The city will cite some law about no soliciting. At that point I would try gather donations and take them to court. I would be most willing to contribute.

The city needs to go back to electing City Council members from wards ---- most of the persons who have served on the council in the past 30 years have come from north of Street and, for the most part, from the more affluent neighborhoods closer to Niskayuna. City Hall couldn't give a damn about Bellevue, Mont Pleasant and Hamilton Hill -- except for about 3 months before a General Election.
Joe Allen was the only south of State Street legislator. This hardly means he was effective. Since Frank M left no one is from "near Niskayuna". The vast majority of the Council comes from around the GE Realty Plot or Stockade. Ditto for the School Bored. Vast areas of the City have no representation. The Council must be shrunk to 5 and elected on a neighborhood basis. You should have supported Vince Riggi so Bellevue would have had a larger voice. But don't fret-change is coming. The Alliance Party has Roger Hull and a full slate ready to take over from the DEM implosion team. |

SCHENECTADY 2 councilmen not running again 2 other parties to field several candidates BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter
Two Democrats have already dropped out of what might be the most competitive election in the city’s recent history. Longtime Councilman Joseph Allen, who narrowly won his last term, said he will not run for reelection. This is his 16th year in offi ce. Councilman Thomas Della Sala, who is now finishing his fi rst term, said he also will not run for re-election. “Mainly I want to be free to do more traveling,” Della Sala said. But he also indicated that he was disillusioned with city politics. “Things don’t move fast enough,” he said. “When I was campaigning [more than three years ago], we were talking about Erie Boulevard. We’re still talking about Erie Boulevard. I had no idea.” They are bowing out as a new group, the Alliance Party, has announced it will field four candidates for City Council. The Republicans say they will fi eld four candidates too, and at least one city resident has said she will also try to win one of the four seats up for election. Terms end this year for council members Denise Brucker and Margaret King, but neither has announced whether she will run again. Allen, 75, said he was leaving simply because he can’t stand the winter anymore. ................>>>>.................................>>>>...................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00900&AppName=1

Only five days later the Gazetto gets wind of this story. The one city resident that said she will run is Pat Zollinger. The NNTP is also looking at running a slate of City candidates. Della Sala is funny about Erie Boulevard-maybe when every taxpaying business is opposed you should listen? Naah, nothing is more sacred than the deal. On thing for sure, the days of the DEM incumbents running unopposed are officially over. |

It's hard to get change in gov't when the canidate deck is stacked full of the same ilk you are trying to vote out. The system should change. After all if Judy Garland or Elizabeth Taylor play Dorothy in OZ, the ending is the same. The plot stays the same just with different actors. |

Its also hard to get change when DEM morons are on every line. You need an informed electorate to pull off a successful write in challenge. If the Alliance Party got half the incumbent City Council DEMS to step off and the REPS to finally field candidates it has already succeeded beyond anyone's expectations. |
