In two days two DEM incumbents Joe Allen and Tom Della Sala have announced they will not seek re-election! Joe Allen is retiring to Florida and Della Sala wants to spend more time with family?-lol-

The Alliance Party has two early victories. Both of them would have run again if unopposed. The Alliance Party has already started cleaning out old time pieces in City Hall. The City Council has degenerated into a DEM retirement home. The problems of the City can no longer be kicked down the road. Hopefully more DEMS will jump ship when faced with unified, well financed opponents.

I'm trying to think of one legislative accomplishment for Mr. Della Sala. He succeeded in padding his retirement. Who will second every silly resolution?

Three chears twice over.

As for Joe Allen, he's been around how long?  All he ever does is whine about trash cans in the front of houses on the hill.  While that would be annoying to me if I lived there, and while it is a code violation, Joe hasn't suceeded in stopping his neighbors from doing that--whether they are tenants or homeowners.

Joe retiring to FLorida?   Gee, DV!   Here's a house for you!   Help Joe to move away because he has a house he'll have to put up for sale.  Just make sure he is current on his taxes, he has a history of being delinquent on taxes.  For a guy whose double dipping getting a fat government pension AND a fat government salary so high that he doesn't qualify for the senior enhanced STAR exemption, to fail to pay property taxes is terrible.   And he's a guy was able to have health insurance as a state retiree which would have cost him 10% in premium, but the cheapo instead had the city taxpayers pay his health insurance premium 100% in full - he enrolled in the city "employees" health insurance, and he's not even an "employee" of the city!

DellaSalla, I don't know, I can't even understand him half the time, but he's rather quiet

This is also the guy who voted to eliminate the "two-tier tax system" in the city (where there was a business tax rate and a residential tax rate) and then he had the nerve to comment within the past year at a council meeting that it was terrible that the absentee landlords (who operate businesses) dont' pay the business tax rate.  He didn't even know what he voted on.

Joe Allen served up the sheeple for 12 years. I figure he was leaving when he started to stand up to horrible Mayor SOS and the DEM machine. That cannot be tolerated in a one party town.

As for silent Della Sala-what a loss for the City-NOT! He was a reliable DEM stooge for more taxes, more nonprofit giveaways, DSIC waste and for looking totally bored when the outrage public demanded answers. The good news is that the DEMS are running for the lifeboats and they are figuring out there are not enough to go around. 4 NEW City Council people-A new Mayor.

Benny--how harsh.  You will see Dems win.  As for Joe Allen--bout time he retired.  Della Sala--I don't even know who that hell that is.  Maybe the Alliance folks will be up a seat or two but they will not sweep the city.  Dems aren't running ofr any lifeboats--that's just wishful thinking on your part.

DV, tell us what he did for the city?

He didn't clean up is own neighborhood.

He was a tax delinquent himself.

He didn't even know that he voted to eliminate the two tier tax system.

Regardless of what people feel about gays, Joe was totally out of line with his comments, which we should be appalled at because he is a minority himself and should understand that comments like he made are not to be tolerated.

Instead of paying 10% premium for health insurance as a retiree of the state, he cancels his coverage there and takes full coverage, fully paid premium as a part time legislator (not even an employee)

And back in the days when the SOMETIMES good mayor Jurzynski declared snow emergencies and succeeeded in cleaning the streets really well, there were people in Joe's neighborhood who failed to take responsibility to inform themelves of the rules of living in the city, failed to pay attention to the news, etc, they parkied in violation of the odd/even snow emergency rules, had to pay fines, and what did your dem buddy Joe Allen do????? Whined along with them saying it wasn't fair to fine them (wasn't fair to fine them for failing to obey the rules)  Explain, DV, tell us DV, is it proper for an elected official to try to get penalties eliminated for people who willfully disobey the rules and/or fail to be responsible?????   Well DV??????  What's your answer to that?

And you think the above stuff makes for a GOOD councilman???????????

Attitudes like that are why Schenectady as a whole is in the position they're currently in.

Joe Allen has worked hard for the folks in Hamilton Hill and Mont Pleasant.   Often, he has been the lone voicein the wilderness on issues that have impacted these poorer and more working class neighborhoods.  I have nothing but respect and admiration for Councilman Allen.

I don't really know  Councilman Della Sala ... so all I can say is that I wish him well in retirement.

Yeah, those are two stellar neighborhoods in the City.

I guess we can thank Joe Allen for job growth in those neighborhoods..no.
Maybe MP and the Hill are safer now than they were 12 years ago...no.
Then Mr. Allen can be credited for urban renewal in these neighborhoods...no.

Well, have fun in Florida Mr. Allen! Glad you saved up some money by not paying taxes. Leaves yet another tax burden on the paying homeowners of the City. Bu-Bye.

Joe Allen is a nice guy. He listened to the people, you saw him at many community events and he tried to help Hamilton Hill. Wish him well in his retirement in Florida. He's heart was in the right place.

I never heard him suggest a spending cut or refuse to rubber stamp a tax/fee hike. He believed in big government, in governmental solutions, in chasing businesses from the City with oppressive taxes and idiotic laws. Schenectady does not have an affirmative action officer as required by law. Conditions on the hill and the rest of the City have imploded since he took office 12 years ago.

The DEMS are in a panic over the Alliance Party. That half their City Council candidates have taken a powder is unprecedented. If that's too harsh-too bad. Some of yous should go back to reading the pablum in the Gazetto. Maybe yous can pen another letter about Paul Vandenburgh calling DEM morons-DEM morons. I'm sure it would get published.

Unfortunately,  Joe Allen was the only member of the City Council who really pushed for those two neighborhoods.   He fought for us when Mayor Stratton wanted to close Quackenbush Pool.    He fought for us to get the $180,000 federal grant for Crane Street  when others in the city hall wanted to redirect the money to other parts of the city.

Quite frankly, the city needs to go back to electing City Council members from wards ---- most of the persons who have served on the council in the past 30 years have come from north of Street and, for the most part, from the more affluent neighborhoods closer to Niskayuna.    City Hall couldn't give a damn about Bellevue, Mont Pleasant and Hamilton Hill   -- except for about 3 months before a General Election.

And why did Stratton want to close the pool????????    Because YOUR SYMBOL OF SOCIALISM  was giving the taxpayer money to the millionaires
