So DV, why don't you own a house in the city you claim is so wonderful??????
WHy do you refuse to answer that??????
Oh, its easier for someone who has no job, pays not taxes to live on the taxpayer dole
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
[quote] The problem with Nattering Nayboobs of Negativity is that they know very little -- get their information (if any) from Reich-Wing nut jobs and refuse to accept ACTUAL FACTS when presented to them.[/quote
Is it ok to say that DV is really starting to pis* me off : )
We don't have to get information-we are living in the city, we are paying the taxes, dropping to the ground when shots are fired (think my BP is up better calm down.)
DV I invite you to spend a few days at my house in the summer on Hamilton Hill, trust me by the time you leave your going to need some heavy duty medications, because reality will hit you square in the face.
I lived in Hamilton Hill. I am very aware of the situation there. That does not change my preference to speak POSITIVELY about my community and to work POSITIVELY to improve things. I am not going to become like you and a few others that post here -- you folks are a bunch of paranoid, conspiracy theory nattering nayboobs of negativity.

You aren't a realist. You DON'T live on hamilton hill anymore...right? You should move back there. Houses are cheap!
The difference dvr is that even rotterdamians notice when their town is going to sh!t. They live it every day.
The folks who live in the city also notice that their city is going to sh!t. They live it every day.
DVR what do you think the Egyptians are protesting about? Are they just being negative? They know their country is going to sh!t. They live it everyday.

the city will be arts and farts and education and alcohol and food......we dont have a race track, spa park or anything else to offer.....it's a seedy city that resembles the Bugsy Malone era.....and it's run that way too.....

I'm guessing you lived on the hill in the 60's? I did too and back then there were tree lined streets, neighbors who cared for their houses and had respect for their fellow human beings. Most everyone had a father or uncle or brother who worked at GE I lived on Hullet St back then.
The offer still stands DV, pick a few days in the summer.

I lived in Hamilton Hill. I am very aware of the situation there.
And the mayor is aware and the council and the police, but they DO not live here. Brief rundown of what has happened while I have lived here - woman stabbed in my driveway-house broken into, cars broken into numerous times, tires slashed, crackheads knocking on my door all hours of the day and night looking for their fix, drug house was next door, man trying to break down my front door, took cops over an hour to respond, numerous shootings, one man shot on my corner, another shot dead across the street and the 11 year old also shot across the street. During the summer shots are almost an everyday occurence. Twice stolen cars parked in my lot, rocks thrown at my house because I tried to stop a large gang from beating up a little boy because he wasn't "all black" Hubby stopped john who was beating prostitute badly in road infront of our home, she ran into my house all bloody while my young kids sleeping, baby fell out of second story window next door while foster mother on a drug run, I picked up baby and had son call 911. Most cops treat us less than human, not all cops but most. When my kids were young they were being attacked by other kids, when I went to stop it two woman threw me to the ground one sat on top of me while the other kicked me in the head, and then they threw my Mom to the ground, had to go to court where comments were made at us from others in attendance.
This is just some of what has happened at my home and out front, so DV you really think I'm being paronoid, no just dam scared and sick of it all.
So you and the mayor and the council and all might think you know how it is on the hill and other parts of the city, but you have NO clue, you have to live here to understand.

Back then my aunt lived on Strong St. She moved out and never went back.

You choose to be a negative person --- I am choosing to be a positive person. I am not going to change for you or any of the other nitwits ... and I am certainly not going to apologize for being positive either.
Oh -- and I am very much a realist. I am an optimist and a realist.

DV no one is asking you to change but to have some understanding.
And I guess you are calling me a nitwit also as I have trouble being positive in the condition the neighborhoods are in, and the decline of the city.
I wish that my kids did not have to be brought up here, but we had no choice. I would have loved to have lived in a nicer area, where my kids could go out and ride their bikes and not have to live in fear and see so much violence. But can't go back and change things.
My hubby and I worked hard to pay off our home. I am so proud of my kids, they all graduated from high school, my oldest son from Mohonosen as he had special needs that Sch'dy school couldn't handle. He ended up with the best teacher at Mohonosen, Mr. Morrotta.
My youngest son has Tourette's Sydrome and related disorders and he struggled hard in school too, high school so tough but he made it.
My daughter went on to become a teacher.
I didn't let my kids hang out on the streets. I found my daughters journal today from many years ago and she wrote how she was upset with me because in the summer she had to be in by 9 pm when others stayed out later : )
One thing I am positive about DV is although my kids did ok, I DO not want their kids brought up in the same conditions. I want my grandkids to enjoy their childhoods and not have to grow up so quickly.
But still every summer life is hell here. And each new incident adds stress which makes my Multiple Sclerosis that much worse.
I just thank God that I am the one with it and not anyone else in my family.
And DV I mean this from my heart, though we may have differences here, I wish you the best of health, and pray that you never have to experience what alot of people here in the city are going through. So you stay positive and maybe say a prayer for me.

That's the nicest thing anyone has ever posted. Thanks!

rpforpres, thanks for posting the Metroplex Audit. Oh, how easy it is to spend the taxpayer money with no regards on the impact to the homeowners of the City......for example;
Aperitivo received 1,300,000. Payments suspended for 30 months of the project, interest free for 5 years of the 15 year payment period. Also known as 426 State St Association, they are exempt from school and property taxes beginning 2009 with no ending date.
Bow Tie Cinema, Metroplex money $3,858,817 in 2009 with zero interest over a 20 year period. Property and school tax exempt beginning in 2007 with no ending date.
Perreca's, Metroplex money $150,000 in 2009. Payments with 5% interest begin 2011. Perecca's pays property and school taxes.
Van Dyke, Metroplex money $150,000 in 2009. Payments are interest free (for 5 years, then 3%) and begin in 2014. Van Dyke isn't even listed on the Schenectady County Tax Rolls.
Villa Italia, Metroplex money $336,667, totally interest free for 20 years. Property and school tax exempt from 2006 with no ending date.
So, Metroplex is giving away County taxpayer money, mostly interest free for 15 - 20 years to for-profit businesses. On top of that, the businesses (Perreca's being the only exception here) do not pay any taxes to the City. So, where do the taxpayers receive any benefit for the money being spent?
Taxpayers are losing out millions for the property and school taxes which are not being paid..for decades. Taxpayers are losing out millions on interest (if any) for the 15-20 year loans Taxpayers are losing out millions as the City has to afford fire/police/street lighting/snow removal to these tax exempt businesses and for decades.
The City taxpayers and the County taxpayers are funding millions to businesses which will never pay their fair share of the tax burden. It's a scam.
