The place looks great.   It will be a great venue for banquets and other such events.   Great addition to downtown Schenectady.

Ya know, I happened to catch something when hearing the news about what's going on in Egypt.  I picked up on the American news reporter saying "state run TV."

And that made me think of communist China and how they locked up the guy who won the nobel prize, and even is wife was basically locked up.  And of course, in China, the "state run TV" would not allow the citizens to see and hear the news about the prize, nor the fact that the government has locked the guy up.

As THAT the kind of existence you favor for United States?

We now have our own "government run" TV (OSM).  And in recent times, I trust you know how your Schenectady dem buddies, uh, cronies, voted to limit the citizens ability to speak at the meeting - very short time limit, require them to say what they want to talk about BEFORE they speak (so they can choose NOT to let them speak), then some of YOUR DEM buddies even wanted to eliminate televised meetings (and of course, there is a capacity limit in city council chambers which means that not every citizen could attend a meeting if they all chose).

So, DV, guess you favor socialism and communism.  Your supprt of the socialist entites downtown and the communistic government run TV certainly prove your preferences for such

All of them could use a government hair do. Especially Mercury. Here's the best part-if a struggling unconnected overtaxed resident wants to sneak a peek they have to pay for it. These DEM political pigs can't even have a free look see. But don't fret. Some of that money will go to City Mission.

Mike
I noticed at the last meeting a couple of people were asked to summarize and they replied that they were going to finish what they came to say, it was nice : )

I watched some of the news about Egypt today and saw President Obamas response. First of all the "civil unrest" is not our business, its between the people and their government.  Love it when our government tells others how to treat their people and to let them demonstate etc without retaliation, but imagine if that happened here?

I attended the tea party in albany and we were aware of undercover "cops" in attendance. And that was a peaceful "protest"

At the last city council meeting even the proffessor explaining about consolidation had to bring up the tea party, saying there is no unrest in the city regarding taxes  Just thinking maybe its time the citizens of Schenectady did protest alittle more, maybe carry some signs and walk around city hall right before the council meeting like the fireman did. At least one media outlet, and I'm thinking the TU would do a story and realize that we are sick and tired of being over taxed, sick and tired of crime all over the city, sick and tired of the coverups in city hall....

Addressing the tea party in everything negative is getting really old.

Mubarek may be a jerk .. but he is our jerk.   If he gets ousted and the terrorist-supporting thugs get in power -- they could shut down the Suez Canal and the gas would be $10 a gallon -- IF you could find it.

DVR......I really don't know how you can look yourself in the mirror.....when YOU do not live in the city and clearly there are people here that do or have loved ones that do. They are hurting financially and emotionally. The fear for their safety and the safety of their loved ones....AND YET.....you continue to totally disregard their legitimate issues with inaccuracies.  AND YET, you continue to praise the liberal socialists that have inflicted this pain on them.

For a so called liberal who's ideology is supposedly based on compassion for the 'lesser than'....YOU are nothing more than a cheerleader for the liberal socialist elitist. The reps are showing more compassion for these people than the dems do....go figure!

Honeslty....I don't know how you do it and yet can look at yourself in the mirror!

#1 - I have no problem looking at myself in the mirror.
#2 - I am not a liberal socialist or an elitist
#3 - I lived in the city for many years ... I know many folks who live there .. I am NOT going to be like you   and the other negativists who constantly tear down Schenectady .... I will continue to work to BUILD UP the community rather than bring it down  (like you folks do day in and day out).

and #4 - If you and your ilk don't like that ...  too bad.

DVOR-you continue calling people here negativists when in reality we are being realistic and truthful. If you truly know people who live in the city then you must hear how much we are hurting. We have a group at city hall with their heads in the sand, who claim not to know of deals regarding pensions, WE the taxpayers are paying some of the highest taxes in the Nation. Our homes were reassessed extremely high, when housing prices and sales are extremely low.
People who want to get out are having a very hard time selling their houses. Have you not seen the high volume of houses up for sale?  I called about a few homes that are for sale near me, and two of them had expired, they were up for sale so long and didn't sell so the owners took them off the market.

We all know of the mess at the police station, and the lawsuits against the city and the school district, that comes out of OUR pockets.

All the "positive" news is about downtown. IMO downtown is doing nothing to help the taxpayers. Downtown is not great. It's just a large bunch of buildings either government owned or privately owned who pay no taxes and the ones who benefit are the ones who work down there, there are NO new jobs for the average Schenectadian.

Downtown WAS great when it had stores that people could afford to shop in, like Woolworths ..... Used to walk down their as a child with my grandmother and enjoy a soda and browse the stores, Carl company was magnificent.

And I don't even have to mention the crime here, it has affected every part of the city, talked to a detective after our two vehicles had items stolen the other day and he said lots happening in the parkwood blvd area.

So when you talk favorably about Sch'dy I assume you mean downtown. But for the homeowners there is NOTHING positive at all, nothing.

rpforpres, thanks for posting the Metroplex Audit. Oh, how easy it is to spend the taxpayer money with no regards on the impact to the homeowners of the City......for example;

Aperitivo received 1,300,000. Payments suspended for 30 months of the project, interest free for 5 years of the 15 year payment period. Also known as 426 State St Association, they are exempt from school and property taxes beginning 2009 with no ending date.

Bow Tie Cinema, Metroplex money $3,858,817 in 2009 with zero interest over a 20 year period. Property and school tax exempt beginning in 2007 with no ending date.

Perreca's, Metroplex money $150,000 in 2009. Payments with 5% interest begin 2011. Perecca's pays property and school taxes.

Van Dyke, Metroplex money $150,000 in 2009. Payments are interest free (for 5 years, then 3%) and begin in 2014. Van Dyke isn't even listed on the Schenectady County Tax Rolls.

Villa Italia, Metroplex money $336,667, totally interest free for 20 years. Property and school tax exempt from 2006 with no ending date.

So, Metroplex is giving away County taxpayer money, mostly interest free for 15 - 20 years to for-profit businesses. On top of that, the businesses (Perreca's being the only exception here) do not pay any taxes to the City. So, where do the taxpayers receive any benefit for the money being spent?

Taxpayers are losing out millions for the property and school taxes which are not being paid..for decades.
Taxpayers are losing out millions on interest (if any) for the 15-20 year loans
Taxpayers are losing out millions as the City has to afford fire/police/street lighting/snow removal to these tax exempt businesses and for decades.

The City taxpayers and the County taxpayers are funding millions to businesses which will never pay their fair share of the tax burden. It's a scam.
