Pit bull stabbed;
man faces felony,
other charges

    SCHENECTADY — A domestic dispute between a man and his girlfriend ended early Tuesday with the man stabbing a dog, which later had to be euthanized, police said.
    Eric M. Cognetta, 23, of 1735 Van Vranken Ave., was charged early Tuesday with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony.
    Cognetta is accused of stabbing the 4-year-old pit bull in the side of its chest with a kitchen knife at his home, according to papers fi led in court.
    The dog was taken to Latham Animal Hospital, where it eventually had to be put down, police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Dearing said.
    Cognetta was also charged in an unrelated prior robbery case, according to papers. Cognetta and a second person, Sheena M. Thompson, 26, also of 1735 Van Vranken Ave., were each arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree robbery.
    The two are accused of forcibly taking a victim’s purse from her shoulder and her shoes from her feet on Crane Street on Feb. 24.
    Cognetta was arraigned on the charges and ordered held on $15,000 bail. His attorney is listed as Ronald DeAngelus.

    SCHENECTADY — A city man possessed a defaced shotgun, authorities said.
    Russell S. Pendt, Jr., 25, of 1025 Second Ave., was charged Sunday with one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony. He is accused of possessing a shotgun with the serial number removed. The shotgun was found in his closet, according to papers fi led in court.

not registering

    SCHENECTADY — City police have charged a 21-year-old man with failure to register as a sex offender.
    Specifically, Heriberto Manso allegedly failed to notify the New York State Division of Criminal Justice he had established an account on Facebook, which authorities believe he was using to contact underage children.
    The Schenectady Police Department is asking anyone who had contact with Manso to contact the department’s Youth Aid Division.

City man accused of felony rape of 15-year-old
    SCHENECTADY — A city resident has been charged with having sex with a child under the age of 15, authorities said.
    Narindra Pariram, 21, of Webster Street, was charged Sunday with one count of second-degree rape, a felony, along with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
    Pariram is accused of raping the child early Sunday morning in Schenectady, according to papers filed in court.

Charges lodged in State St. break-in
    SCHENECTADY — A city man has been charged in a break-in at a State Street residence, authorities said.
    Darrell McCorkle, 46, of 12 Swan St., third floor, was charged Tuesday with second-degree burglary, a felony, and fi fth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor.
    He is accused of breaking into the residence Tuesday and taking a flat screen TV and jewelry, according to papers filed in court.


Teen faces charges in April stabbing

    SCHENECTADY — A city teen is accused of stabbing another person in the stomach, authorities said.
    Pharoah J. Nisby, 18, of 1305 Webster St., Apt. 1, was charged Thursday with fi rst-degree assault, a felony.
    He is accused of stabbing another person with a knife April 22 at 1305 Webster St., causing the victim to suffer a lacerated liver, collapsed lung and a cut to the stomach area, according to papers filed in court.
    The victim underwent surgery to repair the injuries.

Men facing charges in pair of burglaries
    SCHENECTADY — Two men face charges in unrelated city burglaries, authorities said.
    Curtis Thompson, 47, whose address is listed as the Schenectady County jail, was charged Monday with third-degree burglary, a felony. He is accused of breaking into a vacant house on Congress Street on Jan. 19 and taking out a shopping cart full of scrap metal, according to papers filed in court.
    Garry S. McKay, 40, of 12th Street, is accused of breaking into a garage on 12th Street on Monday and taking blinds and shutters, according to papers.

Police: Woman stole money
    SCHENECTADY — A city resident illegally withdrew money from another person’s account, authorities said.
    Rafaela Jones, 61, of Third Avenue, was charged Monday with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony.
    Jones is accused of taking $1,070 from the account at the Bank of America branch at 500 State St. between Dec. 7 and Jan. 4, according to papers filed in court.

Three arrested in
pair of unrelated
city shootings

    SCHENECTADY — Three people are in custody in connection with two separate shooting incidents this week, one with shots fired into an occupied home, the other with shots fired toward a busy street with school buses in the area, authorities said.
    No one was injured in either incident.
    Travis Ellis, 24, of 130 Columbia Turnpike, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fi rst-degree reckless endangerment, both felonies, in a shooting incident Wednesday.
    Ellis is accused of running down Robinson Street just before 3 p.m., firing two rounds in the direction of State Street with a Ruger 9mm handgun.
    State Street was busy with traffi c at the time, including two school buses. Pedestrians were in the area, as well, according to papers fi led in court.
    In an earlier, apparently unrelated, shooting, Victor M. Marin, 22, of 921 Pleasant St., and Jonathan J. Ortiz, 21, of 201 Victory Ave., were each charged this week with one count of first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony.
    Marin and Ortiz are accused of firing four shots from a 9mm handgun into an Eagle Street home just before 11:30 p.m. Monday. The home was occupied at the time, according to papers filed in court, but no one was hurt.
    Ortiz also faces one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, accused of possessing the 9mm handgun at the scene of the shooting.

    SCHENECTADY — A February break-in at an occupied residence has a city man facing a high-level felony, authorities said.
    Jacquese P. Baker, Sr., 29, of 939 Park Ave., was charged Tuesday with one count of fi rst-degree burglary, a felony.
    Baker is accused of breaking into an Elbert Street home the evening of Feb. 28, then pistol-whiping the occupant, causing a cut to the head, according to papers filed in court.

    SCHENECTADY — A Tuesday foot chase from police that resulted in an officer being injured has a man facing a felony, authorities said.
    Chadwick Tulloch, 20, no address given, was charged with one count of second-degree assault, a felony, along with obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
    Tulloch is accused of fleeing police on foot from Albany Street, then fighting with Det. Jose Lopez, causing Lopez to suffer knee and elbow injuries.
    Lopez was treated at Ellis Hospital, according to papers filed in court.


Man accused of injuring children
    SCHENECTADY — A city man faces charges for allegedly hitting or choking two children, authorities said.
    Earl T. Thomas, 29, of 58 Elm St., was charged Thursday with one count of second-degree assault, a felony, along with multiple misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
    Thomas is accused of hitting a 7-year-old boy with an extension cord last summer, causing scarring, according to papers filed in court. He is also accused of choking an 11-year-old girl on three occasions Tuesday evening at Steinmetz Homes.
    Thomas faces three counts each of criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanors.
    Also charged related to the incident with the girl was Tiffany Wilson, 31, of Steinmetz Homes.
    Wilson faces one count each of endangering the welfare of a child and obstructing governmental administration, misdemeanors.
    Wilson is accused of telling the girl not to talk with police and also lying to police about Thomas’ whereabouts, according to papers.

3 city men facing
burglary charges

    SCHENECTADY — Three city men face burglary counts after allegedly breaking into a city address, authorities said.
    Roy Hodge, 23, and Tyrone Blanchard, 22, both of 1638 Carrie St., and Travis Blanchard, 18, of Albany Street, were all charged this week with third-degree burglary, a felony, and fi fth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor.
    They are accused of breaking into a Wendell Avenue address May 16 to commit a larceny and criminal mischief, according to papers fi led in court.
    Hodge and Tyrone Blanchard are accused of damaging rear entry doors and plumbing work, then all three are accused of possessing 142 pounds of copper piping and 15 pounds of brass reported stolen from the Wendell Avenue address.
    Tyrone Blanchard and Hodge also face one count of second-degree criminal mischief, a felony.

    SCHENECTADY — A city man is accused of breaking into his girlfriend’s residence and threatening her, authorities said.
    Naquan Lewis, 20, of Albany Street, was charged this week with one count of second-degree burglary, a felony, and second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor.
    Lewis is accused of breaking into the Albany Street apartment Monday morning and threatening his girlfriend just after 7 a.m., according to papers fi led in court.

    SCHENECTADY — A break-in at a State Street residence has a city man facing a felony, authorities said.
    Darrell McCorckle, 46, of 12 Swan St., was charged this week with one count of second-degree burglary, a felony, along with one count of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor.
    McCorckle is accused of breaking into a State Street apartment May 15 and taking costume jewelry and coins valued at $136, according to papers filed in court.

    SCHENECTADY — An alleged New Year’s morning punch that caused a man to lose consciousness has a Glenville man facing a felony, authorities said.
    Jeffrey Laudano, 29, of 1106 Sacandaga Road, was charged this week with one count of second-degree assault, a felony.
    Laudano is accused of punching a man just after 2:35 a.m. Jan. 1 on Union Street, causing the man to lose consciousness, according to papers filed in court. The victim suffered two fractures to his face area and a crushed sinus cavity, according to papers.

tried to eat drugs

    SCHENECTADY — An alleged attempt to eat a small bag of cocaine to prevent police from fi nding it has a man facing a felony count.
    Joshua Jaenisch, 31, of 60 Pashley Drive, Albany, was charged Tuesday with tampering with physical evidence, a felony, along with obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest, misdemeanors.
    Jaenisch is accused of trying to swallow the drugs in an attempt to destroy them after being stopped by police just before 4 p.m. Tuesday at South Church and Union streets, according to papers fi led in court.

Woman accused
of abusing infant

    SCHENECTADY — A city woman is accused of hitting a 1-year-old child with her closed fi st and squeezing the infant’s neck, authorities said.
    Nitza Villanueva, 18, of Close Street, was charged Saturday with second-degree assault, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child and criminal obstruction of breathing, misdemeanors.
    She is accused of hitting the child with a closed fist three times on his back Saturday morning at her residence, causing bruises that were treated at Ellis Hospital, according to court papers.
    Villanueva is also accused of putting her hand around the child’s neck and applying pressure, according to court papers, which make no reference to any resultant injuries.
    The felony assault charge is based on the injury and the child’s age.

Cops say child used as shield after theft
    SCHENECTADY — A city woman with two children in tow stole from a store and used one of the children as a shield as she fl ed, authorities said.
    Andrea M. Giles, 41, of Hamilton Street, was charged Friday with one count of petty larceny and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors.
    She is accused of taking 38 health and beauty products from the Ocean State Job Lot in Crosstown Plaza, according to papers fi led in court.
    With Giles were two children, ages 9 and 5. She is accused of using the younger one as a shield when she was trying to get away from the store’s loss prevention offi cer, according to court papers.

Police say teen
stole ‘pocket bike’

    SCHENECTADY — A city teen took another teen’s “pocket bike” for a test drive Saturday and never returned with it, authorities said.
    The alleged test driver now faces multiple charges, including a felony for spray-painting the bike a different color in an attempt to conceal its ownership, according to court papers.
    Christopher M. Mortimore, 18, of Alexander Street, was charged Sunday with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, along with petty larceny and fi fth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, both misdemeanors.
    He is accused of taking the bike on a test drive Saturday on Avenue A, then not returning. The bike, a type of small motorcycle, was valued at $525.
    The bike was recovered the next day in the possession of Mortimore, who by then had painted it purple, according to court papers. The paint job caused an estimated $300 in damage, leading to the felony charge, court papers indicated.

    SCHENECTADY — A Rotterdam man is accused of using a stolen car to ram others early Thursday.
    Jason R. Pardi, 37, of 2117 Ferguson St., was charged with three felony counts of criminal mischief, as well as a felony count of possessing stolen property.
    Pardi is accused of possessing just before 2 a.m. a car that had just been reported stolen from Rotterdam, according to papers fi led in court.
    He is accused of then repeatedly striking another vehicle at the corner of Erie Boulevard and Liberty Street, causing $8,000 in damage. In the process, a street pole was knocked over, according to court papers.

school slashing

    SCHENECTADY — A teenager faces a felony charge after cutting another person with a switchblade knife at Steinmetz Educational Center, according to papers fi led in court.
    Sadie Rodriguez, 16, was charged Friday morning with second-degree assault, a felony, and misdemeanor weapons possession.
    Rodriguez is accused of using the illegal, spring-assisted switchblade to cut the forearm of another 16-year-old at the center just before 9 a.m. Friday.
    The victim suffered a 3 1 /2-inch cut and was treated by the school nurse, according to court papers.

Man accused in Emmett St. theft
    SCHENECTADY — A city man has been arrested in connection with a break-in last weekend.
    Nahiem Timmons, 18, of Emmett Street, was charged Sunday with second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief, both felonies.
    Timmons is accused of breaking in a door on Emmett Street on Sunday, damaging the door and taking a television, according to papers filed in court.

Teen accused of setting small fire
    SCHENECTADY — A city teen faces an arson count, accused of using a lighter to set insulation on fire at an Elder Street residence, authorities said.
    Corey Chaires, 19, of 133 Elder St., was charged Thursday with fi fthdegree arson, a misdemeanor.
    He is accused of using lighting insulation on fire just after 6:30 p.m. May 20, according to papers filed in court. The fire caused minor damage.
    The incident happened the same night as one of four other suspicious fires in recent weeks, two of which have been blamed on a 15-year-old.
    However, fire officials have said their investigation showed the Elder Street fire was not connected to any other fire.

Police: Teen used
stolen debit card

    SCHENECTADY — A city teen used another person’s debit card to make online purchases, authorities charged.
    Jeremy Brust, 16, of Dorwaldt Boulevard, was charged Thursday with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, along with misdemeanor criminal mischief and petty larceny charges.
    He is accused of taking the debit card earlier this year and making more than $500 in purchases with it, according to papers filed in court. He is also accused of illegally damaging doors at his residence, according to papers.

Police: Man broke
into woman’s home

    SCHENECTADY — A city man faces a burglary count for allegedly breaking into a woman’s home and threatening her, authorities said.
    Luis Nunez, 41, of 26 Catherine St., was charged early Monday with one count each of second-degree burglary, third-degree robbery and first-degree criminal contempt, all felonies.
    He is accused of breaking into the woman’s Germania Avenue residence, threatening her and taking her cellphone, according to papers filed in court. She is described in papers as his ex-girlfriend.
    Nunez is also accused of violating an order of protection by breaking into the woman’s home, according to papers.
    He also faces one count each of second-degree menacing, fi fth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and fourth-degree criminal mischief, all misdemeanors.


Cops: Teens stole
iPod, other items

    SCHENECTADY — Two city teens stand accused of two Lenox Road break-ins early Sunday, authorities said.
    Mark Strzalkowski, 18, of 1307 Lowell Road, and Elliot Nark, 17, of 1370 Glenwood Blvd., were each charged with two counts of seconddegree burglary, a felony.
    They are accused of breaking into the Lenox Road residences sometime before 2 a.m. Sunday and taking an iPod and household items, according to papers fi led in court.
    Strzalkowski also faces one count of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest, misdemeanors.
