New partnership for Proctors, Capital Rep

The Capital Repertory Theatre and Proctors are forming a new partnership.

Capital Rep will merge its administrative operations with Proctors.

The organizations will remain financially and artistically independent.

Proctors will take over management of Capital Rep's functions like ticketing, finance, marketing, group sales and more.

Outsourcing the administration will save capital rep about $200,000 a year.

Now the County sheeple can fund Capital Rep. So what if the Palace Theater is across the street. Does this mean Mercury Morris will now play a fair share PILOT? Morris is going to teach Capital Rep how to keep books? Wrong on so many levels.

Mercury Morris will send his accountant in! PILOT what PILOT? Morris is too busy at the Presidential speech and grabbing new ventures to pay ANYTHING. Cap Rep ask SACC-TV what happens when you allow this guy into the tent. There will be nothing left to build on.

Change
January 25, 2011 at 12:02 am by Philip Morris

A few pretty big things were announced today for and about Proctors.

Most importantly, we announced that we have entered a formal management agreement with Capital Rep. In the online article by Steve Barnes in the TU pages, he used an adjective that really struck me. He called it ” a profound administrative change.”. For as simple as it is from a certain perspective, it is a profound change in another.

Readers are used to the assessment I make of our region’s culturals: we are the inheritances of four small towns trying to compare ourselves to the inheritances of cities far larger but at the core of metropolitan areas quite similar to the Capital Region. Greater Buffalo or Rochester are not substantially larger or wealthier than the greater Capital Region, the the cultural inheritances, from the Eastman House to the Buffalo Zoo are wildly different. They are the inheritance of one large place within a metro region.

So it is profound to cross those lines in some ways. To say to both Albanians and Schenectadians that two of the culturals they have nurtured are joining forces to think and act and secure our futures as if we were the inheritances of that larger community. We believe that our region cares enough to want us to succeed and prosper and by aligning our futures, we believe we are matching the region’s ambitions.

Social service organizations have merged and collaborated, hospitals have, even bus systems have. They have had substantive inducements by the government sector, though. Our inducement is far more dependent on individual people, as donors and ticket buyers, expressing collectively that this is the future they desire. We think it is, but time will tell.

Late today, as noted on the blog, “Table Hopping,” we also announced that the Muddy Cup coffee shop, located on the Robb Alley portion of our facility will be closed for the week as we, that is Proctors itself, adjusts it and takes it over to reopen on Sunday. It is a bold step for us, but, from our frequent survey of our patrons, an important one. While the folks at Muddy Cup took the gamble to come to our space when we were just reopening and before some of our successes, the cafe has not been able to keep pace with our audiences expectations and needs.

This will be a new endeavor for us. We will, inevitably, make mistakes. We think, though, not unlike our other announced initiative, that his is the future our customers desire.

We have never been afraid of change, but, again, time will tell.

Rumors are flying that Muddy Cup had been asking for assistance with rent as business has been down SIGNIFICANTLY but Morris et al refused to budge on the $10k/month, so they packed their bags and devoted resources to other more profitable locations.

Pay your fair share PILOT, run the theatre on a paying basis and repay the oppressed County taxpayers. It's not  just that he refuses to repay but his total arrogance and unaccountability. He takes Key Bank permanently off the tax rolls to open a catering hall, competing with private businesses, that pay taxes. He grabs SACC-TV from the community and shakes down Glenville.

You're gonna have to remind us again.......who actually DOES pay taxes downtown??
There's no competition....it's a free for all! They are ALL lining their pockets while the oppressed county taxpayers are sinking and the county is going to crap!

Great idea - non-profit cultural organizations should be working together.   Times are tough and this is a great way to save money on administrative/overhead costs and still provide a great, uplifting series of  cultural events/products for the region.

Now all we need is for the school districts and municipalities in the region to start sharing and/or consolidating administration .. so we can save money and provide better education.

They are legally recognized as non-profit entities.    Whether they get grants from taxpayer funded sources has nothing to do with their legal status as non-profits.

And I 1000% support the concept of taxpayer support for culture and arts in our state and communities.

DO you support the taxpyaers losing their homes because they can't afford the taxes to pay for theaters??????   Huh????????

Where is the taxpayers supposed to get the money from?????   TELL US THAT DV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    WHERE?????   WHERE??????

TELL US WHERE THE TAXPYAERS ARE SUPPOSED TO GET THE MONEY FROM TO PAY PROCTOR'S TAXES?????????????

DV, do YOU believe it is just and proper for the financially struggling taxpayers, the elderly on practially proverty level fixed incomes to pay the taxes for the very high paid Morris so that hey can take is fat taxpayer salary and move to a luxury house far away from the crime and scum of the city?????      Answer that question DV.

It's so nice of you to support the taxpyaer funding of this when YOU DON'T PAY THE TAXES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    And it's easy to say when the only knowledge of people's incomes are a very hefty fat pension paid by the taxpayers, a cadillac health insurance plan courtesy of the taxpayers, plus Soc Sec on top of that..  But a family on $30,000 a year with either no health insurnace or inadequate insurance, no taxpayer handouts, and having to pay property taxes for the millionaries, I want you to explain DV, WHY should poor people pay for the arts??????    They can barely feed their families but YOU want them to pay for a theater that operates as a for-profit, with expensive elaborate Broadway productions and their CEO gets such a fat salary that he moves to a house of luxury away from the crime that the low income taxpayers are supposed to live with

whatever they are 'legally recognized' as is just smoke......our legislators/lawmakers can spin words to keep us turning like the flush of
a toilet.....I fail to see the 'guaranteed grants' via the taxpayers who cant even afford to live in the vicinity of their hard earned money
'working for them' as a priority right now.....although I like shows and such, it's just not at the top of the REALITY FOOD CHAIN
OF LIFE......
