There's no pawn shop in the entire City. My advice is to file a police report and call your insurance agency. Thefts from cars are all over the City. Don't anything of value in your car. It's disgusting and nobody wants to do anything about it.

There most certainly ARE pawn shops in the city, they just don't call it that.
Any store that has a sign up that says "USED" is a good place to start, because those"used" items have to come from somewhere.

There's a place on State St,  just above Hermies Music.
There's also one where The Accordion center used to be.

They dot the city all over the place.
White House Antiques used to be a notorious fence, they're now located at the former Duane's Toyland on upper state.
If you're missing tools, try The Tool Shed on Duane Ave.
There's an electronics place on the corner of Brandywyne, and Albany street.

Know this though, you can't be lazy and just call any of these places asking if they have any of your stuff, because they're definitely going to say no.
You're gonna have to do some due diligence and actually go to these places (the cops sure won't) and if you spot your stuff (don't ask them) don't lead on, just go outside and call the cops, and let them retrieve the items.

None of these places are going to admit they have it, and just give it back, because they already paid some crack head for it, and they don't want to forfeit the money, or the merchandise.

Good hunting!

thanks Tommy : )  will be searching this week. without getting into detail, cop definetely could've gotten print, as the way vehicle accessed, not the door.

Perp took my hubby's winter gloves, so I'm assuming he didn't have any on when gaining access to vehicles.

I know they have to have this guy on camera, cop said if they do detective will call us.

Talked to two neighbors right by us, one ladies daughters car broken into last month. Another two months ago. And his friend will not park here as her car broken into twice. Now all our houses in vicinity of camera, they had to catch something.

Allthough cop did not take prints,  I was glad he was polite. A rare occurance here.

Sad when we have to rely on cameras in neighborhoods to 'promote safety'.....KICK THE SCUMBAGS OUT!!!!!!

There's the place that buys gold and other stuff on Albany Street near the intersection of Brandywine...  It's about a block "up" Albany from that intersection.

If the officer was good to you - you should send an email to the chief.  I think these guys can use some positive feedback...

I'm so sorry to hear the bad news rp. Depending on what the perp took, it is probably sold and the perp, sadly, has his stash for the next high. I don't think they use pawn shops anymore, even if there were any. That would be the first place the police wouldlook. They just resell them on the street, unless they use what they took....like gloves.

It is just as bad in the Mt. Pleasand area now.

Do cops regularly patrol the Hamilton Hill area....just curious.

This is happening all over the city.  I used to live in Bellevue and my car, as well as several others, were broken into on a regular basis.  They tried to get the tires off my husbands truck but couldnt so they slashed them.  Same thing with another truck up the street.  There is a drug house on the street so go figure on who is doing all this.

Pssst, ummm Ben? That's not very good advice.
I know the neocons all tell us that the insurance companies are our trusted friends, but it's far from the truth.

First, there's the deductible, and after that, other factors come into play such as whether the car was locked, or not, and there had better be evidence of damage.

All in all (because they factor in depreciation as well), you'll be lucky to come away with a fraction of what you lost, (unless you tell them your great grandmother's 3 karat wedding ring was in the glove compartment) and when your next insurance bill comes, brace yourself.

I know this stuff first hand, because it happened to me twice.
The first time, I had about $750 worth of tools stolen, filed a claim and got a check for about $235.
Guess what the annual increase in premiums were. Yup, $250.

The second time ( they broke my window to do it), I just found somebody cheap to replace the window, and just went to The Tool Shed and got back my stuff.

Total cost $150, and that was just for the window, and my deductible is more than that.

You're right though ,the Schenectady cops do absolutely nothing, except take the report, and tell you to call your insurance company, because they're busy watching their son bowling in Scotia, or sleeping in their car behind the Hess station that's paying them to be there.

So, I moved to Niskayuna, where the cops actually do something.
No problems since.

Same problem in the Pine Hills area of Albany.  My nephew's car was broken into right near St. Rose.  Because he is a freshman, he is unable to have a parking permit to park safely in the school lot.  He was on the street and it was "smash and grab" during the night on Tuesday.  Although we understand the school's policy, he needs his car because he holds two part time jobs trying to help with his tuition.

Albany police were not much help.  Signs all over Pine HIlls telling residents to lock up their card and leave nothing of value in them.  This happens everywhere.  What a shame.  Sorry.

Sorry to hear about your stuff being taken rpforpres but the cops will just take down a report so when your insurance asks if you filed a report there's a record of it. The police aren't going to do much about a break in because as everyone is saying it's happening all over the city.
