Generally, ANY ambulance company is not participating with specific insurance companies. If the amount of the bill is high enough, the insurance companies will negotiate a lower rate, but if it is a high enough bill, the insurance companies then negotiate for a lower price, sometimes being able to receive a reduction on the cost. This is not always the case, however. That's a determination between the ambulance company and the insurance companies. There are some, however, that will never accept these negotiations.
That's why it's a moot point to even give REMS the 'special' treatment....it doesn't matter....National Healthcare and it's event horizon is on it's way.... no one is arguing the point of their work(that's great) but the machine that is rolling down the rails right now will be their god...not us

Don't get your panties in a twist here. REMS is not going anywhere. They are doing just fine now without a taxing district. However there still is that little issue about the missing $250K that rems charged for ALS service....yes?
And your assumption of mohawk or any medical service leaving the insurance network shows your disconnect for the facts. With obama care......any ambulance service will HAVE to accept insurance. Read the 2,000 page health care bill.
With obama care, there CAN'T be a monopoly!! READ THE HEALTH CARE BILL.......I did!
The Health Care bill does nothing to guarantee that there will be competition between several viable ambulance services. If REMS goes out -- there will be no competition for Mohawk. No competition = a monopoly. And the Health Care bill will not change that.

There's no competition for Time Warner in the area, but you don't hear politicians screaming about that.
There's no competition for Verizon in the area, but you don't hear politicians screaming about that.
There's no real competition for National Grid, but you don't hear politicians screaming about that.

There should be competition for cable and energy. There is competition for phone service -- I don't use Verizon for my phone service.
But cable, energy and phone service have nothing to do with the discussion about REMS.

There may be only one ambulance service someday but the prices are controlled by what the insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid will cover for the service. If they charge too much another service could move in and challenge them for the service.

Apparently you still dont get it.....national healthcare IS A MONOPOLY.......they dont need competition....did you ever read Atlas Shrugged? the owners of mohawk and any other ambulance corps are just a rail are a system where the 'owners' can only hope to stay in their position and possibly being the fall guys for poor government choices/$$ shuffling and robinhood tactics.....when something happens, the regulators will purport that the leaders of the corps didn't follow some dumbass rule that no one could follow but it was always ignored by the regulators until the politicos need a fall-guy/gal.......
there is always a 'jesus' in the machine......he is after all the savior and the leaders of the corps shall sit there until 'told not to'......

Big difference here John....Unlike REMS, Mohawk would have to 'buy' it in order to own it. They wouldn't be acquiring it from the taxpayers..........k?

I swear you must smoke a joint or two before you type your posts. Even Bob Dylan's lyrics make more sense.
