SCHENECTADY -- Union College has given the city $40,000 after Mayor Brian U. Stratton asked the school to pay a curb fee to help cover the costs of police and fire coverage.

Union spokesman Phillip Wajda said the college decided to give the same amount as Ellis Hospital, which made a $40,000 contribution in October when Stratton announced a multimillion deficit in the 2011 budget. "We felt it was only appropriate to match that," Wajda said of the onetime contribution.

Stratton has appealed to Union in the past, during better financial times, to reimburse the city for the college's tax-exempt status.

This week the mayor expressed his pleasure with Union's payment, which will go toward keeping the Hillhurst Park Pool in the Bellevue neighborhood open. Ellis' contribution is going to the Front Street Pool in the Stockade...................>>>>..............>>>>............Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/default/article/Union-gives-40G-to-keep-pool-open-953487.php#ixzz1Av0BEdpp

RPI, Sage, Emma Willard, etc give almost half a million to Troy?!

Union  - $40,000 for pools in Bellevue & the Stockade?!? How about getting sand and fill up those money pits.
Ellis - $40,000
Sunnyview - close to $10,000

Stratton said if all non-profits donated the City would have $750,000. Actually it would probably be like $2 million with all the non-profit tax free spaces all over the place. Thanks Union. With millions in a tax free street in Schenectady, you donate $40,000?!? Where's the hefty Proctors donation? Even the non-profits run and hide from the taxpayers when times are tough. Thought that's what non-profits were all about - helping.

Union was asked to give $500,000 and came up with $40,000. Mayor SOS' letter to another 145 nonprofits received a big $4,053! That doesn't cover staff and postage costs. 140 nonprofit said go stuff it. Including the biggest taxpayer ripoff PROCTOR'S who contributed zero to the idiotic plan. Another complete joke.

If you talk to Proctor's Mercury Morris about any fair share payment he gets violent. He believes it is better to take and take than return anything to the oppressed County sheeple. Can we expect another dog and pony show with the big fake check at the next City Council? Anything that delays hearing the wrath of the sheeple. No one will voluntarily pay anything. Start cutting useless City programs and eliminating incompetent employees.
