Schenectady County target of lawsuits
Two civil actions each seek unspecified compensation

By Paul Nelson Staff Writer
Published: 12:00 a.m., Sunday, January 9, 2011

SCHENECTADY-- A crash involving a sheriff's deputy who fell asleep at the wheel and an unrelated search of the wrong apartment by county law enforcement officers have prompted lawsuits against the county.

Richard Reohr of Schenectady alleges his civil rights were violated when the probation department and sheriff's deputies with a police dog improperly searched his downstairs apartment on Edward Street while looking for an upstairs tenant who was on probation in October 2009.

County Attorney Christopher Gardner said Friday that the officers got permission from the landlord before they entered Reohr's apartment in the city's Central State Street neighborhood.

"We believe it was a lawful entry," said Gardner, adding "there was no damage to anyone. We will vigorously fight the lawsuit."

Schenectady lawyer Frank Putorti Jr., who represents Reohr, 32, said he believes the landlord was not asked, but was told that the officers were going into the dwelling. Putorti says Reohr's rights were violated and that he suffered emotional distress from the incident.

"If they get permission, they should get permission from the tenant," Putorti said. "Our impression is that they were looking for something or someone else."

Besides the county, the suit also names the county probation department, probation officer Alan Rohloff and the sheriff's office as defendants.

The second civil action stems from a motor vehicle accident during the early morning hours of Aug. 17 when authorities say Deputy Omar Quiernan fell asleep while on patrol and slammed head-on into a motorcyclist on Route 7 in Duanesburg.

The victim, Anthony DeAngelo, 61, of Delanson suffered serious ankle and leg injuries that have affected his ability to walk, said Putorti, who also represents DeAngelo.

"He's never going to be the same," Putorti said................>>>>.................>>>>..............Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/defa.....91.php#ixzz1Ad8Fed8v

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Working together works! If this had been a REP sheriff it would be front page news. The Gazetto has become the laughingstock of the local media. No one can believe how bad it has gotten over there.

The accident was reported in the media several times when the incident occurred. Cover up?

Schenectady County targetof lawsuits

What does the TU mean by "target" of lawsuits.  Pretty violent headlines.  The TU better repudiate that headline and tone down the rhetoric headlining their articles.

well, they are the target.  The "target" isn't an individual, it's the county (as in govt) that's being charged.

I guess there's two ways to interpret that headline tho

I think the guy in the motorcycle accident was the guy who owns DeAngelo's on Chrysler.

That headline may be misinterpreted by some of the weak minded according to the left. Headlines or any form of speech that could be misinterpreted as violence needs to be repudiated. TIC

Yep, Schenectady's miracle

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
