You can expect more "giveaways" as he is one of the "good ole boys".  You may find the taxable assessed value of certain individuals mysteriously "adjusted" to the owner's benefit.  You can expect that if you go to see him, he won't be there because he wasn't there much when he was fulltime.  And you can also expect that if you complain about your taxes, you will get lip service.  The residents need to be prepared to grieve their taxes and go to small claims court because the BAR is traditionally equally lame in Rotterdam.

What's interesting is that the Town of Guilderland still shows him as Assessor, which I confirmed today with a phone call.

This is common practice when the same person serves as Assessor for more than one municipality.  For example, CS was (while he was Rotterdam's) and still is the Assessor for the Town of New Lebanon.   Our new Assessor has probably been informed by the Admin that he can work whatever hours fit his schedule as long as he can get his work done (friends & family adjustments).  Not a bad gig...although if I had a choice, I'd take the Town Clerk's job in Rotterdam...there is NO requirement to show up at Town Hall...EVER!!

I didn't know that about Surprise.  Is he "Full Time" in either position?

Surprise was full-time with Rotterdam.  Macejka just became full-time at Guilderland.  Guess everyone willo be happy to see him back in Rotterdam.

Yes Surprise was always Assessor out there.  Interestingly, he has not been well-thought among the other assessors.

OK, so then I have a question.  The doors to town hall are routinely locked every night (especially meeting nights, it seems) at 5pm (or 4pm in the summer).  What exact hours will Macejka work - and from where?

More and more municipalities are going to part-time assessors and there is a growing trend of one person
serving as assessor in more than one municipality.

MT--why can't he let himself in?  The senior Center seemed to be open every night for one reasonor another. Everybody had a key to that building. I guess if he can arrange his hours adequately to serve both towns he can do it.  But was he appointed?  I am surprised that he would want to go back to Rotterdam.

Mr. Macejka was appointed by unanimous vote on January 1, 2011.

So does he have a contract and how much is he being paid?  Would hate to see him get displaced again by some stupidity.

I know that his compensation was listed in one of the resolutions - but I don't have a copy of that as I gave
it to someone else.

You should be able to FOIL for the contract.

Probably CAN let himself in ... I guess I'm confused tho.  If he's working as the assessor, shouldn't he be available to the public? What will he do "after hours" - and who will supervise his attendance / actions and work

As an earlier post indicated, the new Assessor is one of the good ole boys!   He won't be required to adhere to a schedule...as long as he fulfills his friends and family duties.   And you'll probably see less of him than you will EE!  ROTFLMAO
