SCHENECTADY COUNTY
Crime earns county No. 1 ranking High percentage of residents sent to prison

BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter

Schenectady County’s small size and high amount of violent crime has earned it an unenviable rank. In 2008, the percentage of county residents sent to state prison was higher in Schenectady County than any county in New York state, even the New York City boroughs.
The Bronx came in at No. 2. Albany County was No. 4.
The statistics were provided by Justice Atlas, a non-governmental watchdog group. Its latest data is from 2008.
Schenectady’s No. 1 status is partly a statistical anomaly. Population-wise, Schenectady County is one of the smaller counties in the state. Its relatively few number of prison admissions is thus a larger percentage of its population, pushing it above counties like the Bronx, which sends nearly 10 times as many residents to prison each year.
But the data also highlights a serious problem in Schenectady, District Attorney Robert Carney said.
“I think it reflects the amount of violent crime we’re dealing with,” Carney said.
But he doesn’t think the county’s high imprisonment rate is a bad thing.
“I certainly think it refl ects successful prosecution,” he said.
The records show that Schenectady County, out of all the counties in the state, sends the greatest percentage of both men and women to prison, per capita. But the vast majority of the convicts are men — about 7 out of every 1,000 men in the county are sent to prison, while the county only imprisons 0.84 women for every 1,000 female residents. ....................>>>>.....................>>>>................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00900&AppName=1

Crime has sure dropped in recent years now we have more crime than the Bronx and that takes some doing. Has anyone seen any FBI statistics that the crime is down compared to 10 years ago?

Wasn't someone on this forum asserting that violent crime is down in Schenectady County?

The county has earned yet another undesirable, but reportedly deserved distinction.  So, what are the public officials
who you elected going to do to identify and address the causes of the rampant criminal activity?  Arriving at the
solution requires initiative, conviction, hard work, and a commitment to public service.

Again, another black eye for Schenectady. Now, how do you think the highest paying taxpayers feel about spending their hard earned money supporting a City which is extremely violent? Paying for inadequate protection...inadequate schools? It's proof positive that crime does pay.

Congratulations on the Renaissance Schenectady ... obviously, working together works!

Great job Mrs. Savage - let's open more bars - let's cut more police funding.

OK everyone.  I am going to tell you.  DV tells the truth for once!   I accept DV's continuous statements about crime.  DV has kept saying that crime in Schenectady is going down....according to FIB statistics.

ROFL, right?   I'll tell you how my post above came about.  My fingers were going faster than my brain, it's still morning, yesterday felt like Sunday and it's Sunday now.  But I typed the following message, and then re-read it and as I noticed the typo, I almost spilled my coffee.  I just had to incorporate it into a post.

But now the real post, with typo corrected:

And DV said crime is going down.   He said "according to FBI statistics."   Then he changed his story and said "certain crime"  according to FBI statistics.

Isn't it interesting there is a wealth of proof from public and private sources showing crime in Schenectady is doing nothing but going UP.

And isn't it intersting that  DV has not provided one shred of proof supporting his claim of what the FBI says??????    He even refuses to post a link to the stats from the FBI itself--has told us to go find it.   Of course, telling us to find is just his cop out excuse for his lies about the existence of such comments

Carnival Bob has some nerve making such comments...he is the biggest reason for these rising crime rates, IMO...too many watered down plea deals
and too much leniency...while he brags about his "100% conviction rate"...gimme a break...typical liberal.

Awww...come on now.....you gotta know that these criminals just needed a biking/hiking path to use and are awaiting new condos at the old alco site so they can move in. That's why they get the plea deals.......they are victims!!

Things will get better......the liberal socialists promised!  (tic)

Meanwhile, ya got dead bodies found 3 weeks after a fire, an awol attorney, a mayor involved in illegal pension padding, appointed/created tax paid positions for the 'friends and family' club, shooters on the losse and a corrupt police dept.. I hope someone is taking notes cause it will be information for a great novel some day......NON-FICTION!

I thought as the good population increased and places were used, that the crime would go down.  This either proves that wrong, or shows that the amount of crime is making people run out of the area faster than the crime rate is coming down.

Savage's miracle continues. Too bad they didn't run the truth in Pravda BEFORE the election. Although she was the hand picked choice of the cop union leader and brass, she would have gotten beat worse than 2-1.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

It'll be a best seller.  "The Fall of a City"   On the back cover it will have the summary that most books have and it will read something like, "This was the city that was once known as the City that Lights and Hauls the World.  TV and radio were born in this city.   But then a city house became infested with cockroaches."

DV keeps saying we speak only of the negative.  He is so blind that he doesn't acknowledge the existce of the negative which FAR OUTWEIGHS the good in this city.

He is so blind to the bad things that he thinks city homeowners have an endless supply of money to give to downtonw.

Unless we get more people like Pat Z into office, the city WILL be non-existent.

His girl savage just keeps robbing the taxpayers, while his guy Gillen keeps giving out taxpayers money to the rich and to the tax delinquents, and his guy Stratton just keeps everything secret from the taxpayers.   The city needs Pat Z desparately so make sure that the taxpayers know EVERYTHING that's going on.
