Senator Farley says that Schenectady should be more like Saratoga ----   and I notice in the news that several young Saratogians were arrested for starting an incident because they did not like the fact that a black man
and a white man were sitting together in the same restaurant.

So I take it that Mr. Farley wants us to crawl back under the racist rock that Saratoga seems to be living
under.   And I bet 100 bananas that the he-she dancing monkey will come running to Senator Farley's defense ...

This is the same as saying, because of your one remark on this link, that you are against senior citizens living through the full senatorial district, since you said that you don't like one issue that one has... and the fact is, I bet you can't get a quote where he said "I wish things were more like they are in Saratoga, I like the racists up there."

I never said I was against senior citizens living anywhere.

And ... Mr. Farley in the debate this past Autumn held at the Maple Avenue School said that "Schenectady
should be more like Saratoga" ... so I am asking -- does he want us to be as racist as they are there ?

Well, you're against something Mr. Farley is saying, so your obviously against senior citizens.  Maybe in his remark that Schenectady should be more like Saratoga, he was speaking of lowering taxes to make it easier to do business, although he does get a demerit for voting for the Metroplex again and again.

DV, did you actually read the article on-line in the Saratogian?

"Four Skidmore students involved in a assault in the Spa City diner over the weekend appeared in City Court Tuesday morning.....

Talvarez, a Bronx resident, is facing the most serious charges, second degree assault and criminal mischeif, both felonies and hate crimes."

These students are not from Saratoga and will most likely be kicked out of Skidmore to return to their homes in the Bronx. These were not "Saratogians", they are college kids. And they will be long gone soon enough.

Don't you wish the people who robbed stores in Schenectady, gunned down each other in front of Bombers, shot paint pellets at taxpaying homeowners property and raped women in parking garages in Schenectady were:

1) Actually CAUGHT
2) Were non-residents of Schenctady .....well we don't know where they're from do we....because no one has ever been arrested!!!!!!!

Yes, I wish Schenectady was like Saratoga. Taxes are lower, their businesses downtown pay taxes, no Metroplex Authority is stealing taxpayer money and most importantly the cops actaully catch criminals there!!!

All four Skidmore College students who were arrested early Saturday at Compton’s Restaurant for allegedly beating up a white man who was eating breakfast with a black man had appeared intoxicated when they were taken in for questioning, according to police booking sheets from the arrests.

Justin Tavarez, 19, one of the students in the case, is charged with felony hate crimes stemming from accusations that he made racially disparaging comments to the two men before smashing a glass plate from the restaurant over the white man’s head. The three other suspects in the case who are charged with misdemeanor assault include two members of the college’s basketball team, sophomore Sakhile Sithole, 20, and freshman Elijah Johnston, 18. Korvin Vicente, 19, was also arrested.

The students were giving the black man a hard time for sitting and eating with a white fellow, according to a former city official who ate at Compton’s just after the fight broke out but asked not to be identified. The white man tried to speak with the students to calm things down when his breakfast companion went to the bathroom, and that’s when the students allegedly jumped him, the source said.

Anyway, you’ll note that none of the suspects are 21, the legal requirement for buying or drinking alcohol in New York. But even as growing evidence suggests that alcohol played a huge role in what all say was an ugly scene, Saratoga Springs police do not intend on investigating where the students may have been drinking prior to the 5:35 a.m. fight in the Broadway restaurant, Lt. Gregory Veitch told me today. He said that was not a priority in what he called an assault case.

How important do you think it is for police to try and find out where the accused students may have been drinking?

Don't let the facts get in the way of your preconceived notions. Maybe Sen Farley meant Downtown merchants should pay taxes?

How do you find so much time to post your nonsense to this forum?

You say in another thread that you wish you were in Scotland.  That is the only statement that you have made with
which I agree.  I wish that you were too!

thank you rachel and mt for clarifying what the 'real' story and facts are.

For a minute there, I was going to contact Farley and ask him to explain his racist statement.

Good thing you guys/girls clarified the facts.

You go girl! One other difference there is actually sales tax generating, job creating, retail in Saratoga. Empty retail is not being filled with "arts" and alcohol rehab-THAT PAY NO TAXES. Sen Farley was right-as usual.

Saratoga Springs braces for tax increase, police cuts     (from WNYT's website)

SARATOGA SPRINGS- The pain of budget proposals is being felt in cities and towns across the Capital Region and Tuesday night it was Saratoga's turn.
Finance Commissioner Ken Ivins says he did the best he could with this plan and he knows parts of it are still unacceptable to taxpayers.
“Yeah this is probably the toughest budget I’ve ever had to do. It was a no win. Guaranteed no matter what I propose, there's going to be someone really irate with me,” said Ivins.
At least he's a realist. This year budget proposals all across the Capital Region have left folks anything but optimistic.
People in Saratoga Springs were bracing for bad budget news right from the start of Ivins’ report.
Ivins is proposing a property tax increase of nearly 8.5 percent. That means you're paying about $98 more on a $200,000 home, which even he admits is too high.
Asked what would have to happen for a zero percent property tax increase, he said "a lot more cuts to jobs and services." To the tune of about $1.4 million.
The city is looking at a shortfall of about $3.7 million and a $3 million increase in personnel costs alone.
Part of that is retirement costs which are up $1 million over last year. Health insurance is up 15 percent. Like in year's past, state aid is down.
This year, just like last year, sales tax is a moving target and that makes planning even tougher. Ivins hopes the city can take in about $8.9 million in sales tax next year. At least, that's what he's budgeted for.
One of the most controversial parts of the proposed spending plan includes moving city dispatchers to the county. That's a move Ivins says would save $500,000.
The plan also calls for cutting a police captain position. But Police Chief Chris Cole says they can't take that kind of hit.
“I cannot lose our dispatchers who also double as clerical staff in the department and I cannot lose an administrative officer,” said Cole.
Cole says if that happens, it creates a damaging domino effect in the department after what was already a painful year of layoffs.
“In the end I lose a patrol man. I’m going to lose another cop off the street,” Cole added.
If this proposal makes you angry and Ivins and the council are prepared for that, you do have some opportunities to give your own suggestions. Right now there are public hearings scheduled on Oct. 19, 28 and Nov. 16. The council has to make its changes before Nov. 30 or this proposal is automatically adopted.
