First, Mertzie WAS the only voice of reason. He tried to raise the bar in rotterdam. But as DVR states, and s/he is correct, that it was rotterdam's 'friends and family club' that didn't want their cozy, wink and a nod, free rein taken away. These folks were use to getting anything they proposed, which is in part one main reason why rotterdam is in the disaray it is today. Second, it is understandable that the 'friends and family club' felt singled out and their way of doing business in rotterdam threatened. Perhaps if they could have only seen the forest through the trees, with foresight and vision, they would have realized that corporate commerce zoning, with an updated comp plan would have raised the bar for ALL future rotterdamians. Third, historically in rotterdam, it is the 'friends and family club' that has been allowed to set the standard for rotterdam. It is that old rotterdam mentality that believed or perhaps manipulated the fact that corporate commerce wouldn't work for their own personal and financial gain and security...perhaps? But then again perhaps they were right all along and mertzie was wrong. Professional businesses have no place in rotterdam. Professional businesses are not a good fit. I believe that their idea of professional businesses in rotterdam consists of a Walmart super center on the west end of rotterdam and a new gin mill. So tippy, there ya have it. The liberal socialist's idea of professional businesses consist of supporting a walmart super center on the west end of rotterdam, a non-profit at the old draper school, section 8 mfh, a gin mill and the ever so slight mention of the glendale nursing home (another non-profit) moving into rotterdam. Now THAT is a perfect fit! Just look at rotterdam's present town board. THAT is what rotterdamians use for their plumb line for professionalism! Yup, on second thought mertzie was wrong in his assumption and vision. IMHO of course. |

so just what keeps our leaders from cleaning up boarded up un-safe properties that the town takes the time to re-enforce the porch roof????
The right of private property ownership. Other than by the often abused eminent domain proceedings, the government cannot take possession and control from an unwilling owner. The town ordinances should, however, be enforced. Further, the town should move to legally seize properties that are abandoned and for which taxes are significantly in arrears. These properties can then be auctioned or demolished. Another area that needs attention includes some of the streets off of Draper Avenue. There are several long abandoned properties there that are eyesores to passersby and a potential hazard to residents in neighboring properties. |

The 8 businesses left because of the drug store that never happened.
Was Walgreen’s offered $120K of taxpayer money? I'll have to look to see if Walgreen’s contribute to the local democrat party. That might explain why that project never happened. It wasn't politically beneficial. No business in their right mind would build a business there. Unless...You are GIFTED $120K of taxpayer money to shoulder some the risk along with property tax exemption to increase profits. |

rotterdam has always had problems with upholding standards
No they haven't. Rotterdam standards are held slighly above the big toe. If you don't look down, you might trip over them |

Right. Every other RR has opened without a taxpayer smear. But they were not in Schenectady County! "RIDA largess made this new governmental gin mill a reality"-stated Death Ray. All the family owned tappies can go to hell. Understand why the City Walgreen's was also blocked? No pay=no play. Another big zero that creates no net jobs, increases no revenues, does nothing to improve the quality of life. At what point will someone say we have enough governmental gin mills and Metrograft should concentrate on improving County infrastructure so that private jobs maybe created? |

Stadium seating Marv Cermak
While driving by the upcoming Recovery Room Sports Bar and Grill in Rotterdam the other night I couldn't help notice a bunch of athletic field type seats on the complex patio. Come to find out there are three rows totaling 14 seats that were recovered from the now demolished New York Giants stadium in New Jersey's Meadowlands. Word has it the stadium seats will be located in front of a big screen television. A sign outside the place will be opening soon. Construction at the $4.5 million venue is undergoing finishing touches. The latest addition to the Recovery Room chain is located at the ultra-busy Curry and Altamont intersection. I was unable to come up with an opening date, but did learn the company is accepting applications for cooks, servers, dishwashers and bartenders at the Wolf Road Recovery outlet...............>>>>.........>>>>...........Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/defa.....38.php#ixzz1A3ZEGNMa

What a bunch of whiners and complainers -- If they had decided to build on Hamburg Street or Curry Rd Plaza you'd be ripping Mr. Del Gallo, the Democrats and the IDA apart that it should have been built at Capital Plaza. You can't act like adults long enough to say -- " Mr Del Gallo, you did good". Give him and his team credit for this victory and lets roll up our sleeves to start working on the other matters that need addressing in town.
Oh -- and for the record --- Mr. Del Gallo, you did more than good ... you did great. Keep up the good work in 2011. |

Yes, just like the Golub Project he was touting 1/1/11! Lost all the office jobs to Schenectady, relocated Dunnsville Road for a possible warehouse expansion that may never happen. Lost assessed value, lost Rotterdam jobs, lost revenue to local businesses that depended on these people to buy goods and services in Rotterdam. "Mr. Del Gallo, you did more than good ... you did great. Keep up the good work in 2011." Oh, and for the record - LOL |
