I've never seen as many muggers and drug dealers as there are now downtown.

Funny, I haven't seen a mugger or a drug dealer downtown in years.   Saw loads of them during the 1970's
and 90's when the city had GOP mayors ... oh .. and a GOP police chief who went to jail for selling drugs.

We have a cousin in the family that is in 'public safety' in the city. And he would back up your statements. They honestly can't keep up! They have never seen it so bad.

There is also a worker at the dss building that has been there for 20 years. They said that it has never been as bad as it has been in the last 10 years. They said that most of the recipients are transits from the 'big city' who have come here demanding 'support'. And once they land in schenectady, with no place to go, dss is mandated to find them shelter that day with your tax dollar. Usually a motel room where they can deal their drugs from.

However, on the bright side, they did say that there is a small minority that are there due to a temporary down turn in their life.

So shadow, you are correct.

I know people who worked in the county jail -- during the late 70's and into the 90's .. and the jail was
full then .....
the fact is that downtown was near death and over run with the "bad element"  ... now downtown is
full of good and decent people  ---  where as 10 to 30 years ago ... they were vastly outnumbered
by the "bad element".
Furthermore, the anecdotal accounts from a county jail worker and a DSS worker doesn't prove that
all of these people are from downtown --  they could come from any part of the county.
Also, just because a person goes to DSS does not make them a mugger and a drug dealer.   You folks
really do look down on the poor and less fortunate.

The point is DV, many of the people who come to Schenectady do not come to get jobs but to get on their welfare program which is the best in the state. Schenectady is broke and we can't afford to keep paying these high welfare packages and it's time the state mandates are changed.

And that ain't gonna happen since that is how the liberal socialists stay in power. They 'need' a dumbed down society. They need victims shadow! It's created by the liberal socialists just to stay in power. They don't give a rats a$$ who pays for it as long as they can be re-elected.

And under your buddy Stratton, what were the police doing?    I guess you think they were all goody goody

Gee, no muggers downtown?  How about armed robbers in broad daylight in downtown???????    What do you call it when, at about 4:00 in the afternoon, in broad daylight, during the rush hour traffic going home (LEAVING the city), a guy with a gun enters a downtown restaurant and robs them?

What do you call it when, in broad daylight, someone with a gun enters Cornells and robs them???????

Uh, DV., what about the brawls in the taxpayer funded Bombers???????   What's THAT all about?????   In return for the taxpayer handout to open the place, AND in return for an annual refund of taxes NOT paid (i.e., they get a 150% property and school tax exemption....that is 150%) they cost the taxpayers ADDITIONAL money because the police have to respond to the brawls down there, right in the middle of the taxpayer funded downtown.   SOOOOOOO   tell us what THAT is all about?

What do YOU call it when the taxpayer funded Bombers requires the services of EACH AND EVERY Schenectady cop working in a given shift in order to address an incident at the taxpayer paid business in downtown??????

What do YOU call it when ALL the taxpaying residents of the city are left WITHOUT THE POLICE SERVICE THEY ARE PAYING FOR because EACH AND EVERY city cop has to be sent to Bombers???????   What do YOU call that?????   Huh??????

And tell us DV, what do YOU call a shooting at the taxpayer funded Bombers?????   What is that??????

What do YOU call the violence downtown??????    Huh???????

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Violence downtown is when MikeChristine eats too much Christmas candy and goes into one of his-her
uncontrolled hissy fits.

MC is destroying you in this debate at every turn.  And he/she is not blaming one party or another, but just stating the REPORTED FACTS about Schenectady.

Just because the reality of Schenectady is depressing, doesn't mean the messenger is being negative.  The reality is - SCHENECTADY SUCKS!

Building hiking trails isn't going to address the high crime, poor schools, high taxes, and crumbling infrastructure.  County Democrats are trying to float these "feel good" stories to change the subject of the harsh reality the residents see with their own eyes everyday.

If Democrats continue to ignore these GLARING problems, they will appear to be out of touch (which they are).  If there was a semblance of an opposition party, they would have no problem sweeping into power.IMHO

You can't walk two blocks DT without duggies, bums, panhandlers and miscreants ruining your visit. You should talk to people who work down there if you really want the truth. Excluding the MP hacks.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

After 10 years of Metrograft, after $100 MILLION dumped down the arts toilet-things are much worse. Pretty facades that pay nothing in taxes and offer no jobs. The DEMS don't have a clue how to right the ship. The only County Legislator with any business expertise has gone home.

Now the fun begins as they blame each other for the fraud, the fiscal incompetence, the feather bedding and the lack of any new companies nor private sector jobs. Schenectady County, once again, has the HIGHEST unemployment rate in the area. Joe Allen is right and more have to get off the kool-aid and start speaking the unvarnished truth.
