It's interesting.  I wonder how many of our senior citizens take advantage of this.  Directly from the county website, services that are now provided by the Schenectady County Sheriff's Department.

GOOD MORNING NEIGHBOR PROGRAM – The Good Morning Neighbor Program is  a computerized program that senior citizens and disabled persons may elect to sign up for. Each day the computer system calls the resident to check their well being. If the person does not answer the phone the computer notifies the police dispatcher who intern dispatches a patrol unit to check the welfare of the resident.

“STOPPED” PROGRAM – (Sheriff’s Telling Our Parents and Promoting Educated Drivers) Under the STOPPED program parents will be notified any time their child is stopped by police officers.

Maybe since Union College has taken over so much property that is now tax-free, or Proctors gets so much from the hotels, they can afford to hire a receptionist to make the early morning wake-up calls across the county... oh, and big brother will make sure you know if you kid was pulled over.  Gee, shouldn't you know that before the Sheriff calls?  Wouldn't this fall under personal responsibility?  What age does the "STOPPED" program end?  Will the elderly living in town be getting calls when their 40-50 year old children are pulled over?  Does this only go for county residents or are we asking everyone who is pulled over to supply mommy and daddy's phone number along with their license and registration when they're pulled over?

Oh... and the next to last item on the same page... they must still be looking for a place to put that Sheriff's substation, unless they didn't update the page after the previous article was published...

Except for the fact that 2 are overreaching and one was a promise that they were going to do before the election and subsequently checked and found out that they can't do because the property was too small.

It is not overreaching to provide a way to check in on the health and well-being of the elderly --- since the
elderly are NOT forced to participate nor is the checking in being done clandestinely.

It is not overreaching to notify parents when a child is stopped by the police --- since the child is a ward
of the parents.

There are a lot of potential properties in western Schenectady County that could serve as a site for
a substation  ---  my thought  -- let's build a new town police station and make room for a sheriff's
substation there.

You support the government doing everything!    What happened to personal responsbility?   We call our parents every morning upon arriving at work (we--Mike and Christine--are on vacation this week.  Some of our out of area siblings do to.  We have an elderly neighbor who had no children - another neighbor checks in on her.  Some seniors live in senior housing complexes and generally have people doing things like that.

Come on DV, become an adult, get out from aunties' teets, beome a responsible independent adult, get a job, buy a house in Schenctady, and start paying taxes.

I am glad to see the Schenectady County Sheriff's Department providing  GREAT service to all of
the residents.    I look forward to Mr. Dagostino serving as Sheriff for MANY, MANY years to come.
