Actually, If you want authentic Italian cooking and don't have an Italian grandmother at home in the attic (or in my case a Polish grandmother who made many authentic Italian dishes so well that her Italian friends from Our Lady of Mount Carmel preferred her cooking to their own ) -- I would suggest Trattoria Rustica in Pittsfield, MA.
Why the hell would anyone travel that distance to eat

Or you could drive 11 miles (8 minutes) in the opposite direction and get some of that local food at Brooks' Barbecue, another "local small business" and still eat in New York.

It is not that far - a little more than an hour drive - here is a little something from their website:
"Artigiano means, “artist of the craft”. One who takes pride in details, infusing passion into what they do. Davide Manzo, chef and owner of Trattoria Rustica is an Artigiano. Born and raised in Pompeii Italy, he is third generation of Cucina Napoletana.
At Trattoria Rustica, Davide Manzo has created an authentic Italian experience in the Berkshires, including the interior, built with his own hands. Most of the materials such as the tiles and brick of the bee-hive wood burning oven are imported from Italy. Important, because it is a key element in the flavors of “Antichi Sapori”- the ancient flavors of Pompeii.
At Trattoria Rustica you will experience Italy, from the intimate setting with Neapolitan artwork surrounding you to the delicious food you will enjoy. It's the fine art of Italian dining, service, music and the enjoyment among family and friends.
Trattoria Rustica uses the freshest ingredients available, choosing organic and locally grown produce whenever possible. We serve only the finest hormone-free and antibiotic-free, humanely raised meats, poultry and fish."
I was first "turned on" to the restaurant by Dr. Allan Chartock and the owner of a well known Italian restaurant in the Capital District. This place is so good that this is where Italian chefs go to eat when they have the opportunity.
More from their website: "Davide Manzo, chef and owner of Trattoria Rustica, was born and raised in Pompeii Italy. He is third generation of Cucina Napoletana. With Trattoria Rustica he has created an authentic Italian experience in the Berkshires: from the decor, built with his own hands, to the artful preparation of “Antichi Sapori”, the ancient flavors of Pompeii. He is passionate about his homeland, his culture and traditions.
As a child, Davide made the tragic “old city” of Pompeii his playground. It was there that he began his lifelong fascination with ancient myths and history. This experience combined with the strong influence of his grandmother and grandfather, who owned and operated a trattoria on the Amalfi Coast, was the basis for his present endeavor.
Davide immigrated to the United States in 1970 at the impressionable age of 15. He worked in construction while taking in the American experience always maintaining a firm connection to his family and roots. He also worked alongside his sister and mother when they opened an Americanized version of a pizzeria. As he matured, he began recognizing the presence of a muse which would drive him to want to create an authentic experience, one that paid tribute to the masterful skill of presenting and preparing food.
Davide often engages in active dialogue with his patrons, sharing with them about his ideas, educating everyone who comes in the door in one way or another about the food, wine, people, music and traditions of Italy and especially his native Pompeii. Davide has an infectious and generous energy that keeps people coming back. His enthusiasm about his culture is portrayed in a myriad of ways including the musicians he selects to perform, the late night outdoor Italian movies in the courtyard, his choice of intelligent and dedicated staff, his generosity of spirit, and most of all his delicious and authentic Cucina Napoletana."

I am wary of dragging other persons' names onto this website ... because you folks then attack them and demean them.
Suffice it to say, the restaurant is just a little over an hour drive from Schenectady --- the place is decorated with authentic Italian furnishings and accouterments ... the menu offers many great authentic Italian dishes by a chef who was born and raised in Italy. It is not just a spaghetti and meatballs tyoe of restaurant, They use natural and local raised products as much as possible. It is not inexpensive but it is worth it.
The menu is seasonal ... my favorite dish so far was the wild boar .. but each time I go they have something different that just blows my mind.

That's why you shouldn't even be doing this! No one should! Are you getting written permission from these businesses to do their bidding??

A person doesn't need permission to make recommendations. You folks do it all the time. So get off my back.

Then stop substantiating your comments with supporting casts that you refuse to provide. I personally would like to know the restaurant so I can visit next time I'm in the area. I would like to know these Italian Chef's that find the restauarant so good that they go there so I can judge if their endorsement is something I can rely on...but you don't respond to provide the answers for questions asked. I feel like I am reading the scripts for a political campaign....smoke and mirrors, claims that can't be substantiated; promises of growth and advancement that never come true..... Just because this is cyberspace doesn't mean that people are stupid and can't wade though the piles of BS. If you want to provide support for your claims, then be prepared to provide honest answers to the questions asked and not operate in a cloud of mystery all the time.

I look at this forum as being no different than people conversing at the corner coffee shop. Where people share their ideas, opinions, concerns and perceptions of the subject matter. That is a 'forum' style.
Your style is of a personal blogger. Recommending 'restaurants' and starting threads of places YOU would like to see, are of a personal nature and have no place on 'discussion forums'. I don't see anyone ATTACKING AND DEMEANING. I see people voicing their opinions and perceptions to YOUR PERSONAL subject matter.
You're really in the wrong 'web space' for what you are trying to accomplish buddy! May I suggest WORD PRESS as a blogging site? It is apparent that you have the two confused.

They pushed him out of Jamestown, NY from his previous job after racking up a ton of debt and financial trouble. A friend of mine who lives out there says they are still paying for it. The gazette should do a story on this, oh I forgot they are supporting taking the Key Bank off the tax rolls and letting the city residents pay the taxes for another millionaire caterer!
Right. And how much is Mercury Morris getting in total salary/perks? He's done a great job of paying NOTHING back to the County taxpayers. Of course, he fled the Stockade for the burbs but continues with the nit wit pronouncements about "renaissance","rebirth" and "miracles". Schenectady taxpayers been very good to him.
Key Bank is the biggest taxpayer rip off yet. A taxpayer funded catering hall to go with the taxpayer supported burrito/gin mill across the street. The sheeple are starting to wake up about the Friends and Family plan. The same political pigs at the trough. No wonder City revenues keep tanking.

I made a simple recommendation of an Italian restaurant. All the statements that I made were factual. You can choose to believe them or not -- I really don't give a damn. You can choose to concoct all kinds of stupid posts to object to my recommendation -- again .. suit yourself because I don't care what you think about me.
Trattoria Rustica in Pittsfield is a well known and well loved restaurant - it is even highly rated by Fodor's .. you can choose to try it or not ... that is up to you --- I am just saying that it IS a great authentic Italian restaurant .. only an hour away.
