LOL - If you think you're "hurting" anyone's feelings, I'm sure you're not .. all you're doing is moving tax money out of Schenectady County and frankly, acting like an a$$.

I consider Saratoga Sweets and Krause's to be  "local businesses"  --- any business owned by a local person or persons within a 50 mile radius IMHO counts as such.

Of course, if either one wishes to open a shop in Rotterdam ... that would just make it that much better.

So you have no problem taking tax money out of the county.  Good to know (noted).

I guess when you're not a taxpayer, it really doesn't make any difference.

Don't sweat it, guys. Uncle Sam's business probably went up 20% now that people are guaranteed to not run into Ron Severson when they shop there!

And they won't have to deodorize the grease pit McDonald's smell that is usually left behind.

I am sure the sales and property tax margins are higher than what the owner takes home anyway. The government gets 8% off the top just in sales tax (4 for the state and 4 for Schdy county) although Ron doesn't understand that spending $$ in Saratoga doesn't assist Schenectady county sales tax, and the operator probably wishes he could take his profit first! It don't work that way! But being that Ron never ran a business he wouldn't understand that the government, the bank, the insurers, the suppliers and the employees all get paid first, and if there is anything left the operator gets it IF he doesn't have to make repairs, buy new equipment and make other investitures. But that only applies to people in the real world who understand small business economics. The same kind of people buy their groceries in Latham and their wine in Saratoga, and their furniture in Colonie. Or lets say, their political signs in Pennsylvania! Then wonder why sales tax goes down and property taxes get raised even more!!!

Sounds like middle school banter-----AGAIN

The fact is that there are many good small businesses within 50 miles --- which is the definition of
buying locally.   There is nothing wrong in supporting these small businesses -- even if they are not
within the county.

As far as my buying habits .. regarding candy or McDonald's  ... I have only been to ANY McDonald's
restaurant on 4 occasions this year  --   once to buy a cup of coffee while on an out of town trip this summer,
once to attend the ribbon cutting at 5 Corners, once to have lunch with a friend this summer, and once to
have lunch this Fall.

The purchase of a 3 or 4 peppermint pigs once a year  ... and some candy treats for the great-nieces and
great-nephews is the full extent of my candy purchases for the year.    My actual candy consumption for the
year is quite miniscule.

I would have to support U. Sam's.  Although the owner and I are oppposite end of the spectrum, and we have had our battles, the truth is he is local--and an independednt businessman.  He makes a great product.--and he gets it about community.  Politics shouldn't enter into this queston.

I agree.  Also, all the money that I would have to pay in sales taxes, both local and state, would go to reduce the amount that I need to pay at the end of the year.  Also, if you go ahead and support another small business in another county / taxing district, then you're just paying someone else's taxes.  I'd rather pay mine and hope that some of those others come to pay some of it.

ok I get it about family loyalty--in fact owner has insulted me too--but he really is a nice guy AND TOTALLY GETS IT ABOUT COMMUNITY.  In days past I might have agreed with you but I never questioned the quality of his products.  Sorry DVOR--I would say spend your money where you want it's your business.  But I am a local Rotterdam business owner and own another business in the city, I would support local folks over others.
