Our politicians are morally bankrupt – my statement to the council November 22, 2010 Pat Zollinger November 23, 2010
If anyone was hoping I would take a five year hiatus to brush up on my comedy act, I’m not sorry to disappoint you. Besides, no one could beat that act that went on between Carl Olsen and Mrs. Blanchard last year talking trash.
Nor have I ever been one to hide in a closet and claim injury by the politics of this city and county and never would I ever expect the city to give me a job, let alone an interview.
The council’s job is supposed to be writing legislation and overseeing the budget while the mayor is supposed to administer. I don’t understand why none of you get it?
Or maybe you do get it, and just turn a blind eye and deaf ear to the plight of the taxpayer. Maybe “ushering” at Proctor’s is more important than casting your vote on the budget because you don’t pay property taxes. Maybe thinking up new increases in fines and fees takes precedence over cutting out the obvious fraud and waste in the budget.
And I think it’s a bit convenient that the fire chief padded his pension with the mayor’s help and not one council member knew it. The gazette editorial calling for the chief to be “laid off” was lame. The chief should be forced to use his vacation time now before he actually retires in 2011, and the mayor should resign. The commissioner claims that the chief isn’t a liar, this same person that “sanitized” official state police records that no one seems to remember.
This council has to keep every firefighter we have, and it has to keep all of the fire stations open. This is the only department that actually comes when they’re called. Call the cops and maybe they’ll get there next week. Call the trash department and we’ll be lucky to get a recording, but call our firefighters and they’ll be there within five minutes. Our firefighters save lives and property.
The mayor made his own back room deal with the fire chief for pension padding and we are expected to believe this council was clueless. Telling the truth would be a nice change for this administration.
The fire chief attended neighborhood meetings and told everyone to call the mayor and this council to stop these layoffs. And this council claims phone calls for its own retirement credits. Does anyone else see the irony in that?
The chief was willing to throw his own guys in the bag to me, for their not living in the city and he was probably collecting overtime while he was doing that. But the council ignores the residency law anyway so the irony never ends.
I will continue to call for a financial control board and for this city and its operations to be fully investigated. This City Council, this Mayor, our Fire Chief and our Public Safety Commissioner are all morally bankrupt.

Pat is so good, so intelligent.
She is on par with recently deceased Helen Quirini. Helen worked tirelessly for the employees and retirees of GE. Pat works tirelessly for the taxpayers and residents of the city of Schdy

| Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies. |

I wasn't going to bring that up ... but that is a good point. I have some other issues with her .. but I don't intend to bring them out in this venue. |

The Mayor should RESIGN. Right on Pat. It's been obvious for some time that this Mayor is not up to the job and has delegated too much to incompetent, partisan, "working together" hacks. Nobody's in charge. Every problem was the previous administrations fault. Lights are on but no one is home. An illegal contract to rip off State taxpayers would be the last straw in any other municipality. In Schenectady, it is shrugged off as "what else is new"? The bar is set so low for politicians that anything goes. This is what happens when one party runs unopposed for years. |

What "other issues" could you possibly have? I've never spoken to you, just did a lot of cringing every time you spoke at a city council meeting. I'd forgotten about you because you really are a forgettable character. Go home Ron. Wherever home might be. There's not much to you actually although I guess the politicians got you a patronage job. Pathetic, that's all I've got to say. |
