State Department says new WikiLeaks document dump would risk lives

By the CNN Wire Staff

(CNN) -- If any materials in the next posting of documents by the WikiLeaks site were provided by government officials without proper authorization, "they were provided in violation of U.S. law and without regard for the grave consequences of this action," the U.S. State Department's legal adviser said.

In a letter to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange dated Saturday, State Department Legal Adviser Harold Hongju Koh said he was responding to a letter about plans to publish "what you claim to be classified U.S. government documents."

Koh wrote that the department had spoken with representatives from The New York Times, The Guardian and Der Spiegel newspapers about 250,000 documents the whistleblower organization provided to them for publication.

He described the distribution as the "illegal dissemination of classified documents" and said it would "place at risk the lives of countless individuals" -- criticisms that have been repeated by U.S. officials after past postings on the site.

The information blitz from WikiLeaks is expected to offer a glimpse into the worldwide communications of the State Department and its 297 embassies, consulates and missions through what commonly are referred to as "cables."

Koh wrote that releasing such documents could jeopardize relationships with allies, military actions and anti-terrorism operations.

WikiLeaks indicated last week that it was preparing to release a new batch of previously classified U.S. military documents.................>>>>................>>>>................http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/11/28/wikileaks.response/index.html?hpt=T2

If I worked at wikileaks, I seriously would be afraid for my life.

While today the US is to PC to do anything about them, other countries (Israel, Russia) may not restrain themselves in taking action to stop the flow of damaging information.

WikiLeaks reported on Twitter that "We are currently under a mass distributed denial of service attack."

It came a liitle too late I'm afraid though.
"El Pais, Le Monde, Spiegel, Guardian & NYT will publish many US embassy cables tonight, even if WikiLeaks goes down"

This is intimidation and retribution, it won't do a damn thing to stop the leak. A DDOS against several major media outlets would be political suicide should the identify of those behind it come out - Wikileaks is an easy target - The NY Times, Der Spiegel, El Pais, The Guardian, and Le Monde? Not so much.

And don't get the impression that I approve of WikiLeaks.
I do however dissaprove of the ineptitude of the people who allow such leaks to happen though.

What I don't understand is what the point and purpose is of these leaks? What do they (wikileaks) or the people that hand over this secret intelligence information plan to accomplish?

The concern asked by some people is what's next? ANY private, personal information about ANYONE or ANY BUSINESS or ANYTHING can be leaked just as well.

Personally, I think it is irresponsible of wikileaks to leak out this information. If I were wikileaks, I'd be tellin' the source of this leaked information to find another vehicle that will meet their needs!

Not sanctioning this...

But I wonder if governments around the world were to publish the names of everyone who is involved with WL...  Their family names, where they live, where their kids go to school, etc...

You know, all in the interest of being completely open...

If maybe they might have a change of heart about what the publish.

My point being that they ARE putting people's lives in danger - especially the military.

If the tables were turned they might feel a bit differently.

I agree! This is going to far. This is the sad result of globalization. The U.S. intelligence agencies better start rethinking their information sharing!

WikiLeaks documents reveal hidden actions involving US leaders and foreign diplomats
By CATHY BURKE
Last Updated: 6:14 AM, November 29, 2010
Posted: 3:17 AM, November 29, 2010

These leaks could swamp Washington.

More than 250,000 diplomatic documents released yesterday by the whistleblower Web site WikiLeaks yanked back the veil on a devastating array of secret policies, decisions and opinions that could wreak havoc on US relations around the world.

Well over half the cables date from 2007 or later, and some were written as recently as February.

The most startling disclosures, according to Britain's Guardian newspaper -- one of five media outlets to get the blitz of leaked cables -- include:

* Saudi King Abdullah and other Arab leaders repeatedly pressured the United States to launch an airstrike on Iran to end its nuclear-weapons program.

"Cut off the head of the snake," the Saudi ambassador to Washington quoted Abdullah as saying, according to a report on the Saudi leader's meeting with US Gen. David Petraeus in April 2008.

* Iran received sophisticated missiles from North Korea capable of hitting major cities in Western Europe.

* A July 2009 missive, issued under Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, instructed diplomats around the world to spy on their foreign counterparts and gather sensitive information on United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

The wish list -- which originated from an intelligence agency and was also issued under former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice -- had the diplomats keeping an eye out for credit-card numbers, work schedules and computer passwords.

The leaks also included thousands of files from the George W. Bush presidency.

Clinton led a frantic attempt at damage control over the weekend, contacting leaders in Germany, Saudi Arabia, the Persian Gulf, France and Afghanistan. And US ambassadors in other capitals were advised to brief their hosts about the unflattering and embarrassing accounts.

"By releasing stolen and classified documents, WikiLeaks has put at risk not only the cause of human rights, but also the lives and work of these individuals," the White House said in a statement. "We condemn in the strongest terms the unauthorized disclosure of classified documents and sensitive national security information."

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, whose whereabouts are unknown, said the administration was trying to cover up alleged evidence of serious "human-rights abuse and other criminal behavior" by the US government.

Rep. Peter King (R-LI) was outraged, declaring, "WikiLeaks presents a clear and present danger to the national security of the United States.".....................>>>>.......................>>>>....................http://www.nypost.com/p/news/international/us_diplos_get_wiki_tweaked_Fv6tW2WFdws1sQD9J1ehPI

Code Pink 'Bundles' for Barack
by Catherine Moy
04/14/2008
Trackback Link (Loading. . .)

The co-founder of the radical anti-war group Code Pink has “bundled” more than $50,000 for Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, and pro-troops groups are demanding that he return the money.

Jodie Evans, a Code Pink leader, gathered at least $50,000 from friends and associates and donated it to Obama’s presidential campaign, according to information compiled by the nonpartisan watchdog group, Public Citizen.

Evans and her son, a student who lives at her Southern California address, each also gave the maximum individual allowable donation of $2,300 to Obama’s campaign.

The donations have raised questions about Obama’s association with the more radical elements of his base. Code Pink has harassed, vandalized and impeded military recruiters across the United States in a campaign it calls “counter-recruitment.” The group also gave $600,000 to the families of Iraqi terrorists in Fallujah, whom it called “insurgents”  fighting for their homes.

Families United for Our Troops and Their Mission, Move America Forward,
Military Families Voice of Victory, The Band of Mothers and FreeRepublic.com, issued a statement this week saying Obama should cut ties to his radical bundler.

"Barack Obama's judgment to be commander-in-chief is seriously in question because of his association with Code Pink's Jodie Evans and her war against the American military,” the groups said in a joint statement. "If Sen. Obama wants to earn the trust of the American people to send their sons and daughters in harm's way, he should immediately renounce Evans and return all contributions associated with her."

Obama’s campaign did not respond to repeated attempts to get comment on the latest controversy to hit his campaign.

“As somebody who has stood toe-to-toe with Code Pink, I am sickened that Senator Obama would accept large donations from the leader of the hateful, anti-American group,” said Melanie Morgan, chairman of Move America Forward, the nation’s largest pro-troop group.

Code Pink has also waged a campaign of psychological warfare against
America's wounded warriors and their families by protesting at Walter Reed
Army Medical Center, targeting them with signs bearing messages such as
“Maimed for a lie” and “Enlist here and die for Halliburton,” the joint statement from pro-troops groups said.

Evans has a long history as a political organizer for radical causes and as a Democratic operative. She also worked for former California Gov. Jerry Brown, who is now the state’s attorney general.

Evans sat on the board of directors of the Rain Forest Action Network (RAN), a coalition of capitalist-hating environmentalist groups. The cofounder of RAN also founded the violent and radical Animal Liberation Front, which the FBI listed as one of the largest domestic terrorism threats in the United States.

The FBI reported that RAN and the Earth Liberation Front committed more than 600 criminal acts and racked up $43 million in damages over seven years.

Evan’s radical ideology fit with the other founders of  Code Pink, which is notorious for its attempts to shut down the Berkeley Marine Recruiting Center, occupying congressional offices,  intimidating families of soldiers who gave their lives in Iraq, attacking opponents and disrupting Congress while dressed in Pepto Bismol-colored outfits.

Most of Evans’ money comes from a failed marriage with Westside financier Max Palevsky, a billionaire who cashed in on a computer business in the late ‘60s. Evans took the cash and has invested in anti-American, anti-capitalist ventures.

In federal documents relating to her donations to Obama, Evans listed Code Pink as her employer.

“After the mess with his former pastor and another radical character, Jeremiah Wright, Obama needs to distance himself from Evan and Code Pink,” Morgan said. “If he doesn’t, it is clear that he is not ready to lead the best military in the world.

Wiki Leaks is working with the White House through Soros & NOW they threaten prosecution, Isn't that a laugh!?
Wikileaks gets its initial support from Code Pink through OSI (Open Society Institute) who's major supporter is George Soros. Wikileaks is also has working for them Pro Bono is the lawyer for OSI and the Tides Foundation.

Soros uses OSI to crash economies in countries he targets. Guess who he's targeting now? This is Obama's big political ally. Obama who's whole past & political life has been infused with Crash the System Communist Activist Radical types, including his mother, grand parents, big mentor, guy who got him in Harvard for his big mentor, groups like Joyce (created by Soros) & Acorn (Funded by Soros) with an express purpose to use welfare to crash the system as admitted to on National TV by it's founder.

Soros is also 2nd largest holder in Monsanto Corporation, who's X CEO is high up in the FDA, and stands to profit big time when they take control of everything to do with your food. Including disallowing you to save seeds & putting big time burden on farmers that will push all but the huge corps out of business. You're food prices have gone up ... AND YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET!

When you get into how deep in our stuff Soros is, and how damaging his proposals are. Put that together with his MO which is crashing the economies of countries, which is also Obama's MO considering his past & who he's chosen to affiliate with ... it paints a pretty vivid picture of their plans for us ... Serfdom is the plan, basically slavery. You will have no rights, you will have no means to gain a better life, you will be LIVE STOCK for these people.

'Under attack': Pressure mounts on WikiLeaks, founder Julian Assange
'If you think about the threats we've heard about our people ... it's very natural and understandable that his location is kept secret'
Lennart Preiss  /  AP
updated 1 hour 30 minutes ago

The U.S. government, apparently aided by freelance computer hackers, chased WikiLeaks from an American commercial computer network and temporarily stopped the leak of embarrassing diplomatic documents. But within hours, the website was back online, publishing from a fortified bunker in Sweden.
The virtual chase Thursday was mirrored by a real-life pursuit as European authorities hunted for the site's fugitive founder, Julian Assange, who is wanted in Sweden on rape charges.
Undeterred, Assange continued releasing confidential government documents. Some showed how the Obama administration and Congress helped persuade Spain not to pursue charges against members of George W. Bush's administration for allowing torture of terrorism suspects.

Amazon.com Inc. prevented WikiLeaks from using the U.S. company's computers to distribute State Department communications and other documents, WikiLeaks said Wednesday. The WikiLeaks site was inaccessible for several hours before it returned to servers owned by its previous Swedish host, Bahnhof, which are housed in a protective Cold-War era bunker. Tech blogs have compared it to a lair from a James Bond movie.
"We have been under attack and we have had to move to different servers," WikiLeaks spokesperson Kristinn Hrafnsson said. "But we have ways and means to bypass any closure in our services."................>>>>.................>>>>.........................http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40467957/ns/us_news-wikileaks_in_security/

WikiLeaks back online after it 'moves to Switzerland'

U.S. firm ditched controversial site saying multiple denial of services attacks threatened nearly 500,000 other websites

WikiLeaks went offline for several hours late Thursday after a U.S. firm providing its domain name system said the controversial website had come under mass denial of service attacks.
EveryDNS.net said it had "terminated" its services to WikiLeaks at 10 p.m. ET Thursday as the attacks and others expected in the future would "threaten the stability" of the company's services to nearly 500,000 other websites.
However, at about 4:10 a.m. ET Friday, WikiLeaks tweeted that it had moved "to Switzerland," and linked to a new web address for the site..................>>>>..................>>>>.............http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40486718/ns/us_news-wikileaks_in_security/#

WikiLeaks will release encrypted 'doomsday file' if site blocked
Last Updated: 5:53 PM, December 5, 2010
Posted: 1:09 PM, December 5, 2010

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has circulated across the internet an encrypted “poison pill” cache of uncensored documents suspected to include files on BP and Guantanamo Bay.

One of the files identified this weekend by The (London) Sunday Times — called the “insurance” file -- has been downloaded from the WikiLeaks website by tens of thousands of supporters, from America to Australia.

Assange warns that any government that tries to curtail his activities risks triggering a new deluge of state and commercial secrets.

The military papers on Guantanamo Bay, yet to be published, believed to have been supplied by Bradley Manning, who was arrested in May. Other documents that Assange is confirmed to possess include an aerial video of a US airstrike in Afghanistan that killed civilians, BP files and Bank of America documents.

One of the key files available for download -- named insurance.aes256 -- appears to be encrypted with a 256-digit key. Experts said last week it was virtually unbreakable.

Assange has warned he can divulge the classified documents in the insurance file and similar backups if he is detained or the WikiLeaks website is permanently removed from the internet. He has suggested the contents are unredacted, posing a possible security risk for coalition partners around the world.

Assange warned: “We have over a long period of time distributed encrypted backups of material we have yet to release. All we have to do is release the password to that material, and it is instantly available.”

The “doomsday files” are part of a contingency plan drawn up by Assange and his supporters as they face a legal threat. He is wanted in Sweden over sexual assault allegations, and the US is reviewing the possibility of legal action after the release of 250,000 diplomatic cables.................>>>>................>>>>....................http://www.nypost.com/p/news/i.....dRdOm0JfvW4Z9rjWwLQO

WikiLeaks' payment processor to sue card companies
By RAPHAEL G. SATTER, Associated Press
2 hrs 34 mins ago

LONDON – WikiLeaks' payment processor said Thursday that it was preparing to sue credit card companies Visa and MasterCard over their refusal to process donations to the secret-spilling website.
Andreas Fink, the CEO of Iceland's DataCell ehf, told The Associated Press that he would seek damages from the American financial companies over their decision to block WikiLeaks funds.
"It's difficult to believe that such a large company as Visa can make a political decision," Fink said in a telephone interview from Switzerland. In an earlier statement, his company had defended the WikiLeaks, saying that "it is simply ridiculous to think WikiLeaks has done anything criminal.".........................>>>>.................>>>>...................http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/wikileaks
