Legere buys former Grossman’s site

    A local construction company owner and real estate developer has purchased the former Grossman’s Bargain Outlet building at 1410 Erie Blvd.
    Ray Legere, through Legere Properties, bought the 11,326-square-foot building on two acres in April for $350,000, according to Schenectady County property records.
    Legere would not reveal plans for the site, saying he is in negotiations. The site adjoins another property his company owns, at 1462 Erie Blvd. That building once housed the financial services operations of the former American Locomotive Co.; Ellis Medicine’s School of Nursing is a tenant. Siemens also rented from Legere until it relocated to downtown Schenectady.
    Legere also owns another former Alco building across the street.
    Ray Gillen, chairman of the Metroplex Development Authority, has worked with Legere to place tenants in his Erie Boulevard properties. “He has an excellent track record. All of his properties are well-maintained,” Gillen said.
    He would not speculate on why Legere bought the building. He did say, however, that Erie Boulevard is the locus of several redevelopment efforts.The largest is a $200 million project slated a couple blocks up Erie Boulevard, at the former Alco factory complex, later known as the Nott Street Industrial Park.
    Further, the city is preparing to launch an $11 million project to reconstruct Erie Boulevard from Interstate 890 to Union Street, stopping just short of the Grossman’s building. Gillen said the city is seeking additional money to extend the Erie Boulevard reconstruction project past the Grossman’s site to the industrial park at Nott Street. ...............>>>>.......................>>>>..............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00503&AppName=1
