WASHINGTON -- Today is Veterans Day. Do you know where your president is?
With his feeble flame of "hope" thoroughly doused here in the United States by last week's elections, President Obama has set out around the globe in search of throngs still enthralled by his flowery rhetoric.
He found them, of course, in Indonesia this week by telling them about how Americans must stop mistrusting Islam.
So that is why your president is halfway around the world instead of being here in the United States to celebrate the sacrifices American soldiers, sailors and airmen have made around the world to keep the real, still-burning flame of freedom alive.
Obama honored our veterans from afar by laying a wreath during a ceremony at an Army base in South Korea last night.
That is a distance from here matched only by the chasm that has opened up between him and the voters who elected him two years ago.
This aloofness of his really is becoming a problem.
Not that Obama doesn't appreciate the sacrifices of veterans. He absolutely does. Just ask the Indonesians.
He was in Jakarta for their Heroes Day this week to honor their veterans "who have sacrificed on behalf of this great country."
"This great country," of course, being Indonesia.
"When my stepfather was a boy, he watched his own father and older brother leave home to fight and die in the struggle for Indonesian independence," Obama told the audience.
And the White House wonders why so many people think there is something foreign about this guy.
In the same speech, Obama gave voice to a harsh criticism he has heard about freely elected governments.
"Today, we sometimes hear that democracy stands in the way of economic progress," he said.
The shocking statement raises the question: Where has Obama heard this fatuous claim and with whom has he been talking politics?
Thankfully, your president tepidly disputed this calumny against democracy, but the alarming questions remain. He went on to tell the Indonesians, "Democracy is messy."
"Not everyone likes the results of every election. You go through ups and downs," he said.
At least it sounds like Obama is starting to get the message voters sent him last week.

The President is actually in South Korea .. visiting our military and commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War. Our Commander-In-Chief is NOT AWOL.
Speaking of AWOL .. where were all the Regressives and Nattering Nay BOOBS of Negativity today?
Didn't see one of them at the town's Veteran's Day services -- they were probably too busy drinking from the "cup of whine" to pay tribute to our nation's veterans. |

I don't know if I am considered part of this group, so I will give account of where I was. I am back in school, furthering my education and looking for a job. The school I am in was in session today, therefore at the time of the Veteran's Day Services, 2:30 PM, I was still at school. Most other people who don't work for a government office or something close to it would have also been at work today, but at least you know where I was. |

Perhaps some don't have public sector jobs and had to work....perhaps? Perhaps some went to the grave sites of their loved ones......perhaps? And obama should have been on american soil today. After all HE IS THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF.....no? |

He was at a US Military base in South Korea for part of Veteran's Day commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War --- thus the event involved giving honor to American Veterans who served in that war and in the peacekeeping mission since then .. honoring veterans and service people is what Veteran's Day is all about .. so the President was not AWOL --- furthermore .. US Military bases, embassies and overseas US military cemeteries are considered "American soil" ..so the President was ON American soil on Veteran's Day. |

After doing some research on the subject -- here are the facts:
Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Reagan, Clinton and Bush (41) during there presidencies were outside the country on foreign trips on Veteran's Day at least once during their presidencies. President Clinton was out of the country on foreign trips in 2 different years on Veteran's Day.
Almost every president from Wilson onward has been out of the country on foreign trips on Memorial Day at least once during their presidencies.
Again --- A US Naval ship, Air Force One,overseas US military bases, overseas US embassies and overseas US military cemeteries are considered "American soil" in international law .... so if they included a visit to one or more of these on their foreign trip which happened to fall on Veteran's Day or Memorial Day ... the president would technically have been on American soil that day. |

I believe that ALL commander in cheifs should be in the united states on veterans day. Ya know, the day that the government gives all public employees the day off just to remember those who lived an died to make this county FREE?
I don't believe that south korea gives all koreans the day off for america's Veterans Day.
ALL PRESIDENTS ARE COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE MILITARY!! |

The President was there to participate in ceremonies that honored the men and women who participated in the Korean War and the ongoing Peacekeeping Mission there -- by definition those men and women were/are Veterans --- thus to argue that the President was AWOL or somehow was not honoring Veteran's Day is a fallacious argument. |

That's what happens when someone thinks they can "learn as they go" after they get elected, with NO previous experience. |

The fact is that even Ronald Reagan was abroad on Veteran's Day at least once during his presidency. Mr. Obama did participate in ceremonies that remembered American Veterans of the Korean War --- so he was in FACT honoring Veteran's Day. He was doing his job as Commander-In-Chief.
