Schenectady needs to address decline in Mont Pleasant section

I’m 57 and have been a homeowner in Mont Pleasant for 36 years. I have sadly watched the services provided the citizens of Schenectady decline every year. More importantly I have been watching the quality of life in my neighborhood decline as well. Housing conditions, crime, education and general appearance continuing to worsen. All while I see other parts of the city greatly improved.
I know it takes time, and I’m glad to see some areas getting better, but basic needs and services cannot be allowed to continue to decline in any neighborhood. You cannot let conditions get worse in one area while making them better in another. There has to be a more of a balance. My neighborhood is dying a slow death. Well, enough is enough. I say no to closing the Third Avenue fi rehouse!
Then recently on the news, Mayor Stratton said don’t blame the golf pro for having an enormous salary. I don’t blame him, I blame the mayor and any Schenectady politician who has allowed such an irresponsible situation to occur in a city in such fi nancial disarray.
I’m sure he is far removed from all of this in his neighborhood. I invite him to spend a week in mine and then consider where the city needs to reinvest.

ANDREW J. GNOINSKI JR.

I thought that the city was just a 2 block area around Proctors where all the non-taxpaying businesses are.

Taking a successful business out of an already declining area and proposing a fire house shut down, is clearly not the way to rebuild the area!

The local elected officials are basically telling the Mt. Pleasant residence.....SCREW YOU! YOU DON'T DESERVE ANYTHING BETTER!

And it never will get any better until they lower their generous welfare benefits!! IMHO

Decline in Schenectady?   What?????    DV said Schenectady is MUCH improved.   So what is this alleged decline, right DV?    Isn't this the neighborhood of your church?   Tell us DV, how come you avoid living in the city near your church?

Gee, DV, have you seen that the neighborhoods have declined since your savage buddy started robbing the financially struggling homeowners while giving away their savings to the millionaires?

As Savage takes from the struggling residential lower income taxpayer and gives it out to the well-heeled political cronies, the city WILL decline

Mr GNOINSKI  makes one mistake...

He said other "parts" of the city are greatly improved...  as in plural.

The proctors block really is it.   I don't think you can even count Union Street as it was never a dying location.

The rest of the city is declining...  Everyone but SS sees that.

"All while I see other parts of the City greatly improved?" Huh? WTF? Every neighborhood in the City is in free fall. Including Union St. Take another look at the collapsing housing stock over there. Homeowners out-renters in. The idiot City DEMS can't even pay for basic police and fire protection. The State cuts $1 MILLION and the City has a $13 MILLION deficit. But SS Savage, the Gazetto and DVR see "rebirth".

Don't fret Andrew. DVR has repeatedly spoken to Mayor SOS about Bellevue and Mt Pleasant. Nothing has improved but DVR has thrown his considerable weight into the problem.

What a dump that area has become the past few years. Disgusting.

DVR has repeatedly stated that he has talked to Mayor SOS about this issue! Mayor SOS has listened like he does to everyone else-NOT. I doubt this Mayor knows where Mt Pleasant is. He can't even locate Brandywine Ave where he opposes a drug store over a dirt parking lot.

This entire DEM farce is coming to an end. "Leader" SS Savage is heading for a humiliating defeat then you will see how much support these DEM morons have on the street. Sheeple are finally waking up to the fact that the disgusting Downtown tax giveaways mean the City can't pay for basic police and fire protection.

Metrograft=tax giveaways to developers=less police and fire protection=higher property insurance/property taxes

I wouldnt walk outside alone even in the day time there.  With all the houses being bought and fixed up in Hamilton Hill area, the other areas are getting the crime scene even worse now.
