New bankers row grows Marv Cermek
Construction is moving along at a fast pace for the new Recovery Sports Grill on the former site of the long-deteriorated Capital Plaza in Rotterdam.
A sign that went up the other day announces a new Berkshire Bank branch will be built on the same parcel located at the ultra-busy Curry Road-Altamont Avenue intersection. The sports grill has hopes for opening before year's end while the bank plans a spring debut.
That area is fast becoming a bankers row because the Berkshire addition means there will be five banks along a roughly quarter-mile stretch of Altamont Avenue.
Trustco and HSBC have bank branches adjacent to the upcoming Berkshire branch.
Also, Pioneer Savings Bank will be moving its present Hannaford Plaza branch on Altamont Avenue to the former Edgewood Restaurant property. The new Pioneer will be on the opposite side of Altamont Avenue from a relatively new Ciltizens Bank branch.
Two banks remain at Hannaford Plaza -- Bank of America and Trustco -- for a total of seven along a half-mile portion of Altamont Avenue.............>>>>.................>>>>...............http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/A-new-tool-to-fight-thefts-from-vehicles-722993.php#page-2 |

A lot of money that people don't like to spend. You need banks for that! Rotterdam looks great on paper, believe me. Many companies get a rude awakening when they realize people here cling to their cash and don't part with it as easily as in the next towns over... |

People who have a little money aren't going to spend a dime more than they have to until the idiots in Washington figure out how to get the economy going and stop printing money which reduces the value of our dollar. |

Rotterdamians historically have NEVER spent their money. They banked it. Rotterdam is hoping that when the 'old timers' die off, they will leave the money to their off spring. The only difference....is that their 'off spring' doesn't live in rotterdam. THEY MOVED OUT!So the $$$$ will not go into the town of rotterdam! |

Banks would NOT build a new branch if they did not have market studies and other data to support it. The same is true for closing branches -- for example, Trustco has 3 branches in the 2 mile (at most) stretch between Curry Road Plaza and Hannaford Plaza -- and I have it from a source that ALL 3 of those branches are doing quite well.
Now all we need on Altamont Avenue is a good Polish Restaurant/Deli and we will be all set. |

Don't forget the Trustco on Crane st. It's very close to Alt. Ave. and is doing quite well lately. 4 branches so close and all are flourishing. |

Oh there is plenty of money in rotterdam.....they just don't spend it. It IS all in the banks! Like said earlier.....they are planning on the 'savers' to die off and leave it to their 'overspending' off spring!! |

it's in a bank that is virtually on the internet using virtual money and changing the value with the click of a button from one side of the world to the other...... |
