Quoted from GrahamBonnet
Today Cuomo gave a speech to state lawmakers saying they had to tighten their belts, etc etc...And it was a conference of state lawmakers....

IN PUERTO RICO!!!!!!!

So we can call him Aquadilla Andy and of course there is San Juan Sheldon. Because according to DV, only Hugh Farley is the only lawmaker who goes out of town on business!

Isn't that out 56th state?

you folks can't take responsibility for the mistakes that YOUR party made running Schenectady County
and the State Senate  --- don't forget you had Pataki as Governor for 12 long years doing nothing

Pataki and the reps started the metroplex which was intended to have a wee increase in sales tax which would be used to fund these projects.

The reps plan for metroplex NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER was written to totally exempt the wealthy downtown from paying their property and school taxes.....THAT was a Savage thing.  BEFORE Savage, the FEW exemptions were SMALL exemptions for a SHORT period of time AS I HAVE PROVEN FROM THE COUNTY RECORDS.  But enter Savage and the VAST MAJORITY of projects started under her rule have received 100% tax exemptions WITH NO END DATE, and again, I have proven that from the county records.

And DV, would you care to explain why Savage gave Bombers a 150% tax exemption?????     Why should a profit making business have the struggling taxpayers pay property taxes on the business AND have the financially struggling homeoners give them money on top of that?????   ESPECIALLY when the for profit business attracts low lifes shooting each other, and rowdy drunks causing fights taking ALL city police away from the city and taking police away from the towns as well?

The metroplex needs to be abolished!!! And you are correct mc1.....the metroplex was never intended to cause the county to bethe highest taxed in the country. On the contrary....it was created to 'lower taxes'.

Unfortunately, the metroplex has gone so far off course and so deep in the taxpayer's pockets, while both the dems and reps have their hand in it and have been recipients of it's tax paid gifts.

The bottom line here is that there is NO business that WANTS to come to schenectady county. They come here to make a quick buck off the tax payer's sweat and hard work. And causing the taxpayers to struggle with their overburdened taxes.

And let's not forget the 'chosen contractors' that also made a chunk of change building and 'facade enhancing' these buildings at the taxpayers expense!!

This is like that onion you peel. The more you peel back, the more offensive oder that will bring tears to your eyes!!

ABOLISH THE METROPLEX!!! IMHO

Metrograft was established to increase sales tax revenues and increase City property values. It has failed in both missions. Sales tax revenues are way down 2 of 3 quarters and property values in the City are in free fall. The latest sad example is the bank sale of a mansion on Stratford Rd in the GE Realty Plot. Nobody wants the ridiculous tax burden. But the City DEMS are not through raising every tax and fees. Cut? What cuts?

Meanwhile in Downtown dozens of properties sit empty. Key Bank was sold to Proctor's in a give away for $150,000 and SACC-TV was given away to another tax exempt nonprofit. Both properties are permanently off the City tax rolls. Then the DEMS fiscal nit wits wonder why they can't afford basic services. It's not "State Mandates" it's Metrograft tax giveaways. Metrograft is socialism and steroids that will never succeed. It's has succeeded in sucking $100 million out of the local economy.

New deal for Schenectady Muni pro?
City to consider changing how golf pro is paid in order to save tens of thousands

by lauren stanforth Staff writer
Published 12:01 a.m., Monday, March 21, 2011

SCHENECTADY -- The City Council hopes to save up to $75,000 a year by altering its generous contract with the golf pro at the Schenectady Municipal course.

Brian Damon was previously a contract employee who received the revenues from golf cart rentals, the driving range, sales at the pro shop and private lessons he gave at the course on Oregon Avenue, in addition to a $16,000 yearly fee. He was responsible for hiring some staff out of that money.

At its committee meeting Monday night, the City Council will consider a new deal with Damon that would make the golf pro a city employee with a salary of $75,000 a year plus benefits, but take away all the other revenues he received over the last seven years. The deal would be effective as of April 1.

"Without a doubt we said there's a revenue stream that we should be taking advantage of," said Director of Administration John Paolino, adding that Damon is satisfied with the new deal.

Paolino said he does not know what Damon made last year. Average yearly revenue from golf cart rental alone is about $220,000 a year, Paolino said. But there are costs inside that number, possibly more than $100,000 for maintenance, gas, liability insurance and the hiring of employees to run the cart service.

Also, Damon used course revenues to hire two assistant golf professionals, said City Council President Gary McCarthy. "He's not making as much as people think," McCarthy said..................>>>>.................>>>>...............Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/defa.....46.php#ixzz1HKVf4lCI

Such a waste of money. $75K plus benefits for a golf pro? Please, the City begs for $40K from Union to open swimming pools but decides to waste $75+++ for a golf pro?

Can a financial planner please counsel the Council. Start cutting the fat!!

How much does a golf pro make in the private sector?

The Proctor's Complex
Pat Zollinger

Last Wednesday, March 23, various media outlets reported that The Lion King run at Proctors was good for Proctors and good for downtown Schenectady.  The figures released by the theater were that the people who attended the performances, spent $5.2 million at Proctors' box office, and generated another $15 million in economic benefits to Schenectady from spending at hotels, restaurants and other businesses.

I am unaware of any business refuting those figures; therefore, they must be reasonably accurate.  Consequently, we can conclude that these Proctors patrons infused 22.5 millions into the arteries of the downtown businesses, most of which, if not all, are within walking distance from the stage.

While I was pleased about the financial success, I felt insulted by the fact that despite the monetary achievements, Proctors and many of the businesses benefiting from these events continue to be a burden on the taxpayers.  This is reminiscent of the old adage:  “While Rome is burning, Nero is fiddling.”

Simply stated, while these businesses are earning millions of dollars, many citizens are struggling to pay their overblown tax bills.  Some have to choose between life essentials and the tax bills.  These people are literally footing the bill for those successful businesses; a corporate welfare program that this administration has allowed to become rampant in this City.  Most of these businesses pay very little tax.  Many pay no tax at all.  How fair is that?.................................>>>>................................>>>>.........................http://www.schenectadyinformer.com/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?m-1301564423/
