LATHAM, N.Y. -- For the past 4 years, shoppers in New York have not had to pay sales tax on clothing purchases costing less than $110.

But, in an effort to raise funds for the cash-strapped state, that tax exemption will end in two days. Starting Friday, sales tax on clothing purchases under $110 returns.

"I don't think it's going to affect business at all," said Michelle Hall, an assistant store manager at the Colonie Center Sears. "I think customers are going to buy what they want to buy. I don't think it's going to make much of an impact on overall business."

While retailers may not be worrying, shoppers at the Latham Target certainly had their opinions.

"I think with the economy as bad as it is, it's just making it harder for middle and lower class people to get what they need," said Terry Clark.
