That is fantastic...he is going to cut 19 firefighters......that is an entire platoon (working day) glad I don't live in the city they will be down to 3 stations and so if you live in the area where the station is closed...install a sprinkler system or buy an AED you're going to need it....
Here's the game. Stratton who is leaving, is the bad cop. He announces police/fire layoffs that will never take place. His successor, Gary M, becomes the savior for the public employees. Then everyone is happy {except the taxpayers} and no one gets laid off. This insures a continuation of the failed DEM machine.
Let me be the first, "Gary M understands the importance of high taxes". This is some great attribute in back arsed Schenectady. At the next Council meeting the few taxpayers will be vastly outnumbered by police, fire and nonprofits begging for monkey business as usual.
I wonder how many jobs for young firefighters with families could be saved if the older firefighters made a contribution to their health insurance and gave up a few sick days?
Gosh, gosh, the pools can't cost all that much for those few months. All the city needs to do is take away one property tax exemption, such as Golub's and the taxes gotten from that could probably keep the pools open.
SO, again, DVOR, all the taxpayer money going to downtown, and look what's happenening i exchange for that, taxes going up for the low income residnets, services being cut or eliminated
DVOR, don't you think that Golub should share the pain and pay his property taxes instead of making the overtaxed homeowners pay it??
DVOR, guess it's your belief that people should lose their homes in order to pay all the property taxes for the millionaires downtown. I mean, DVOR, what happens can when people can't pay their taxes. They lose their house. Is that fair that people should lose their homes because they are covering the taxes of the millionaires downtown?
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
I laughed (sadly) when I saw that interest expense is higher because of the new public works garage! How much $ is being saved by the publicly owned body shop? LOL!
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
maybe the firefighters could do a better job at filming the meetings for the city.....that's the LEAST OSM (and their FREE $) could do....or they can just burn.....

They are laying off the wrong people! There are many many created patronage jobs that they could do away with instead of public safety! How about Gillen giving up his tax paid vehicle? How about Stratton giving up his? How about Kosiur getting fired? How about getting rid of Phillip Morris and go to an all volunteer committee?
............but a CURB FEE????? OMG!!

I won't say that it's funny, but I will say that this is quite ironic. The City of Schenectady, the home of high taxes, decides that as a savings plan, they are going to take firefighters off of the tax rolls. This is while, at the same time, the Town of Rotterdam is now going to look at adding the employees of REMS onto the tax rolls? Well, officially, that is, since we're already paying them, just they're looking at making it permanent.
I can't believe I'm going to put this, but SCHENECTADY IS DOING A BETTER JOB THAN ROTTERDAM.

they are laying off the firefighters so the urban renewal can continue with the burning to the ground of crack houses because there is no one to put out the fire.....not only do those buildings not have taxes paid on them...but the taxpayers get to pay for the 'care' of the crackheads.....YAY!

Where's the Plex in this mess? Can't they decide to begin fixing the neighborhoods (tearing down the crack houses, salvaging the decent ones to get them back on the tax rolls). How about the Metroplex $10 million+ dollars start going towards CREATING jobs - by hiring people to clean up the neighborhoods. Hire contractors, laborers and inspectors to fix the homes, get families in these once abandoned homes and then people will begin to WANT TO LIVE in Schenectady, not just come to one of 20 bars in the downtown area. Our City has turned into a gunslingers saloon and Plex is fanning the flames. It needs to stop now.
Not only are my taxes going up, but now my life could be in jeopardy because Stratton decided to close the firestation closest to my property? That's absolutely unacceptable. Don't expect me to pay taxes so that you can pay crazy overtime to police officers and the City Workers left on the payroll! If only an audit was made of this City and someone really know how much of the taxpayer money is wasted ....well, then even I'd need a drink!

We need another SS Savage miracle! Since Metrograft has totally failed there is no improvement in City coffers. Instead of belt tightening we get more nonprofit handouts. Millions dumped into the useless DSIC. They can't even run an arts festival. Only in Schenectady does a $1 million State cut mean a $13 million deficit.
Aside from the Police/Fire Chief nobody needs a City vehicle. Then this horrible Mayor raises his own travel allowance by $30,000! Since no one has any business experience don't expect any serious spending cuts.
