You are right about that one!! Paladino or Christie(NJ gov)!!! Infrastructure can be paid for by the local government(taxpayers) which should be included in their budget. So assuming that there is already taxpayer's dollars in the local government's budget....why should the taxpayer pay yet AGAIN through the metroplex???? The Metroplex should be abolished immediately before the entire county goes broke!!! The Metroplex AND the governments of schenectady county do not 'redistribute the wealth' like their other liberal socialists in washington are suggesting....Instead they are taking from the POOR and giving it to the RICH in the name of 'redevelopment'. They should be ashamed!!! And this present bunch of liberal socialists need to be voted out! |

Business booming on Upper Union Street
Marlene Kennedy’s Feb. 3 column, “Commercial real estate ‘climbing out’ ” spoke of good news in the commercial real estate business with “continued moderate recovery.” Area commercial property vacancy rates were quoted as 17 percent in Albany and 13.7 percent in Schenectady. Both statistics indicate improvements over the period when the “spigot got turned off” regarding commercial property occupancy two years ago. This is all good news. I would like to register even better real estate news in Schenectady’s Upper Union Street business district, where we can report 96.3 percent commercial occupancy! There are only three storefront vacancies left on Upper Union Street. The Upper Union Street Business Improvement District also just completed a census showing employment of 656 people, a 10 percent increase from two years ago. Upper Union Street is happy to be leading the way!
CHRISTOPHER DICOCCO Schenectady The writer is chairman of the Upper Union Street BID.

Rachel, It is quite clear from your posts that u really do not know what u are talking about regarding Metroplex. Please try and do a little research before you post, because you really show your ignorance every time you do and that generally weakens your arguments. You and Benny, I think, must be the same person, just posting under different names.... Perhaps when you get a little more intelligence, we call all take you seriously. As for now, you are a complete joke. Sorry, but the truth hurts. kisses sweetheart for Valentine; Day. maybe u can go downtown for dinner.. lol |

Yes, I see that your post are chock full of information Mr. Bananas. I guess DV finally found a soul mate.
Hope the next time you defend Metroplex you actually have some facts...it's somewhat difficult to defend an entity that has tax exempt for profit businesses like Villa Italia, Marcellas and Bombers for years to come and has become such a taxpayers burden. |

I would genuinely be interested in real data showing jobs created by Metroplex assistance. FYI - the other day I was driving by Marcella's. They seemed to have some graffiti on their new building. |

Again rachel, you have supplied information based on facts! And a job very very well done!! 'smoking' needs to present the counter facts. |

If facts are needed just check out the NYS comptrollers report on the Metroplex audit that was done. Check out the bureau of vital statistics and see where the population of Schenectady dropped over a 10 year period. Check and see how much the taxes/fees in Schenectady have gone up in the last 10 years. Look and see how much the sales tax revenue has gone up/down recently. Then ask yourself the question, has Metroplex helped or hurt since it's conception. Other than improving the 2 block area around Proctors what has been done for the rest of Schenectady? |

Since Downtown is a total disaster, Death Ray will now claim "success" on Upper Union Street. See what his curbs did? Renaissance. The merchants are singing a far different song. |
