I was in maryland this past week doing some work for a client and overheard a discussion concerning developments in relation to AMD and its subsidiaries and the I-88, I-90, I-87 region was a subject

so which brand would you support

Marriott Hotels & Resorts
JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts
Renaissance Hotels
EDITION Hotels
Autograph Collection
Courtyard by Marriott
Residence Inn by Marriott
Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott
Marriott Conference Centers
TownePlace Suites by Marriott
SpringHill Suites by Marriott
Marriott Vacation Club
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C.
The Ritz-Carlton Destination Club
Marriott ExecuStay
Marriott Executive Apartments
Grand Residences by Marriott

sounds like we have found the reason for all the appts

my vote is TownePlace by Marriott

the positive to such a development in the possible building of white collar business in the rotterdam area

TownePlace also tends to work with local restaurants to supply "room service" thus it is a double plus

I know that at least 2 other major hotel/motel chains have looked at the 25-A area within the past
10 years.   They were looking in particular at the lands on the north-side of Route 7 (between
Route 7 and I-8 ...
unfortunately, in both cases - they cited 3 issues -- the lack of sewers along Route 7,  the belief
that Rotterdam was NOT exatly friendly to new businesses, and the unrealistically high price wanted
for one or more of the parcels in that area.

I do know that in both cases the market study for the 25-A area suggested that it was "ripe" for
a chaim motel  (an "express style"/short stay - not the higher end "destination type") .. if only the
3 hurdles could be overcome.

What ever happened to the plan that a few of the developers in the town were going to put in a sewer line from exit 25a to the sewer plant on Cambell Rd in order to develop some land at exit 25a?

The town was supposed to request permission from the Thruway to run the sewer line(s) under the
Thruway   (same with the sewers that were supposed to run from Sunrise Estates and Eldorado
Acres down Dunnsville Rd  .... my recollection is that Mr. Paolino had prepared a resolution to
request such permission from the Thruway Authority  (would have included permission for future
sewer lines crossing under the Thruway at Dunnsville Rd, Rt 7, Mariaville Rd, and Putnam Rd ---
but the Town Board majority "from the other party" objected to the resolution and defeated it.

There was another plan during the last administration that nearly had a deal with the larger developers in town who were going to pay for the sewer line installation and they would get the money in rental fees for 10 years and then the town would take the sewer lines over. An argument ensued over some of the details and then nothing more was heard about it. The same areas as you mentioned were included in a possible formation of a sewer district along with some multifamily units on Mariaville Rd. Crossing under the Thruway is always a difficult process as is crossing under a set of RR tracks.

A rotterdam developer told me that there are already sewer lines under the thruway under the rt7 bridge. Unless he was mis-informed, that is what he told me.

What reason would rotterdam need another  hotel/motel? Didn't the L&M close? Are the other motels that jam packed that rotterdam needs more? Who would rotterdam hope to attract.....the tractor trailer drivers???

Rotterdam needs upscale discount stores, like lake george on rt7 by I88.

Rotterdam needs to be very careful and responsible to what they develop on rt7 since there is a middle/high school right there!

I believe that modern technology makes it possible to dig the tunnel for the pipes -- relatively
simply without disrupting the road bed (either railroad tracks or a uperhighway) ... BUT the
process of requesting permission from the Thruway Authority takes a lot of time .. months and
even years .. so once again the bureaucracy is more of an obstacle than is the actual technology
of building something or doingsomething.

I believe the L&M is still open .. and I do know that the two motels on Hamburg St are packed ..
ehen I tried to get a room for my brother (when he visited in August) the closest vacancies were
in Colonie.

As for motels/hotels by Exit 25A .. I believe that it would attract a different customer base then
the L& M, the Super 8, or the Quality Inn .. just by virtue of its proximity to I-88 and I-90.

I don't think anyone would object to upscale discount stores .. there was even talk that Cabella's
wanted to build across from Schalmont ... but the lack of sewers was a problem.

My aunt and uncle came in for 4th of july weekend and there were vacancies everywhere....in and out of rotterdam. They tried L&M and were told they were closed. And when they drove by there, the grass was waste high....just sayin'.

The developer from rotterdam said the sleeves were already under the thruway and that there was no problem running the sewers.....well except for the money! Perhaps, again, he was mis-informed?

The technology to push pipes under roads and RR tracks is indeed there now but as you said getting permission is a whole other matter.

Just for clarification - what do you mean by "sleeves" ?   Are they the actual sewer pipes?  Maybe
the "sleeves" are in place but you still need the Thruway's permission to run the pipes through the
sleeves.

at least 2 national hotel/motel chains -- well actually 3 since Marriot was also mentioned -- would
not express an interest in building in Rotterdam  .. by Exit 25A .. if they did NOT consider it a
REAL business   .. international companies would NOT build a hotel/motel to lose money -- and
any business that makes money is a REAL business

a $10,000 investment for the permit seems a reasonable investment in order to get sewer lines
down Route 7 and start developing that area to its full potential.
