Translation there is no plan. BUYER BEWARE. Specifically ask the seller about water, flooding and drainage issues. Get the answers in writing. If there is a problem there can later be legal remedy for potential misrepresentations.

The real translation -- is that I AM NOT THE SUPERVISOR .. the question should be directed to that
office and let them give you the answer.  So go ask the people who are paid to have the answers.

Unfortunately NO ONE in rotterdam trusts what's in TH right now!! Sure they are paid to have the answers.......but they are clueless and everyone in rotterdam knows that!

while we can agree to disagree on the "clueless" comment .. I am NOT a paid employee of the town  nor
do I have the expertise to answer the drainage issue --- so direct your questions to the paid employees
who presumably have the expertise to answer the question

Peep the town of Rotterdam paid Lamont Engineering to do a study on water remediation in Masullo Estates. The town also sent out requests to 5 engineering firms to send them the cost and methods to eliminate the water problems in Masullo Estates. Barton and Loguidice, Lamont Engineering, C T Male, and McDonald Engineering all sent in cost quotes to re mediate water problems in Masullo and also the cost to fix the drainage system from Netherlands Village that never worked as engineered. Brett Steenburg the engineer for Helderberg Meadows eventually did the water remediation plan for Masullo Estates. This is one of the main reasons that the comprehensive plan that Rotterdam has should be followed so that future problems like this don't occur and also ground water studies are imperative in all high water table areas before any development occurs.

The big problem with the "masullo fix" --- they (Tommasone and Mertz and Comoany) put a pipe under
Guilderland Ave and are letting water flood the basements of a couple dozen houses on the "wrong side" of Guilderland Ave from their political buddies in Masullo

First of all there aren't a couple dozen homes across from Masullo Estates. Second there is a stream called Becker Brook that allowed for drainage that was there before any homes were ever build anywhere in that area. When the fill was put in to build a new home it blocked the drainage so the drainage pipe had to be moved to where it crosses Guilderland Ave now. As I said before poor planning by the town in allowing homes to be built without proper water table studies have created many drainage problems throughout Rotterdam. The town board under Steve T didn't follow many of the recommendations of the engineering firms due to the excessive costs of the fixes. The developers of Helderberg Meadows is supposed to eventually clean out that drainage all the way to the RR tracks to help remove storm water faster during heavy rain.

Between the Thruway and the CSX Tracks there are close to 2 dozen homes.   Most of these homes were
built long before Masullo Parkway  ... the home that I live in is over 100 years old ... we NEVER had the
water in the basement like we have had SINCE Tommasone and Mertz "fixed" Masullo's water problem
by running that pipe under Guilderland Ave.  I saw the pipe being put in myself .. and it has caused us
nothing but headaches.     But we were told point blank by the GOPers in the last administration -- they
didn't care about the water problem that they created for us ... and this is their quote "there are more
votes in Masullo Parkway".

And now 9 months into the Dem administration - I'm SURE they have a plan to address the situation, since they can't claim ignorance of the issue.

Way to go NNTPers. You did us proud. I'm surprised they lost."No new taxes" yet we the taxpayer get the bill for a drainage issue for a select few. REMS provides for the whole town not a select few.

NNTP equal elitists.

If there was a privately owned company that fixed property damages due to poor town planning at a profit to the town, I'd choose that solution all day.

You wanna talk about residents footing the bill for a select few, how about Mallozzi being hooked up to sewers without being billed. Or how about building a 6000 square foot home with many other "new" structures on a 90 acre piece of property without it being assessed and taxed on the new structures.  Then challenging the adjusted assessment, claiming it's valued at $250K. Talk about tax cheats.

DVOR if in fact they created water problems for a group of homes there is a law on the books to force them to fix the problem. You are also aware then of the newer home that brought in 5' of fill and placed it across Becker Brook which in not legal to do. I drive by there most every day and on the right side of Guilderland Ave going towards Rt 20 there are only about 9 homes and on the left side of the road was where the new storm drain was put in and that was part of the deal with Helderberg Meadows drainage improvement. The town was assured that this would improve the drainage problems but most were skeptical at the time that it would work. The ground waters natural flow is along the Thruway to the Southwest and any digging can effect it's flow. In places the water table is only 42" below grade and many of the homes build in this area should have never been built the way they were. There should have been slab type homes allowed but no homes with basements due to the high water table. I also live near the Thruway and am well aware of the water problems.

Wow! I didn't mean to start some political drama about this! I truly am just a Mom with a family and was concerned
about what I heard about the flooding issue in a house that we are about to buy. Please don't think that I have any other motives other than making sure a home is safe for my family. I would like to thank the poster that gave me
a call this morning. I just spoke to my real estate agent and we are not going to go through with buying this house.
Feel free to discuss the politics of this issue, and know that my intentions were not to stir up a fight.

Thanks everyone.

It also makes the people of rotterdam wonder how many people got tax breaks via the town clerks office. Not to mention the monies spent on a 'special secretary' to the supervisor that is costing the taxpayers of rotterdam even more money. Couple those issues with Article 78's pouring into TH and special financial advisors from Clifton Park.

Fixing a water problem that rests solely on the rotterdam town government is clearly their responsibility. Too bad that the rotterdam taxpayers had to pick up the tab.......but that is just sooooooo rotterdam. IMHO
