SCHENECTADY -- A man was fatally shot in the head Saturday afternoon on a tree-lined street in a residential neighborhood along the east side of Interstate 890.

As a crowd of people gathered and crime scene technicians took photographs of the area, Mayor Brian Stratton and police Chief Mark R. Chaires stood over the body of the victim, who was shot on Tremont Avenue just steps from Watt Street. The shooting took place about 3:15 p.m.

Police issued a bulletin stating the suspect or suspects may have fled in a dark-colored Chevrolet. The victim was shot in the head with a shotgun blast, according to the bulletin.

As Chaires arrived at the scene, a man standing near an SUV on Watt Street yelled: "Hey, Mark. Get him up, Mark. ... Get my son off the ground now."

Relatives and friends of the victim were huddled around the SUV. Several of them were crying.

The area where the shooting took place is adjacent to Steinmetz Homes, a publicly subsidized housing complex.

Police did not immediately identify the victim, his age, or any possible motive for the shooting.

The victim was removed from the scene by a coroner at 4:15 p.m.

ANOTHER SHOOTING?? IN LESS THAN 48 HOURS???? Is this the same shotgun that was used just the other night on State Street in front of Bomber's? Ya know, the 'safe' area of the city.

This is getting pretty damn close to Rotterdam by what....a mile or two??? Stratton, Savage and the metroplex have clearly failed miserably!! Millions of tax dollars spent over the last 10 years and FOR WHAT???? Tax breaks and relocations for the chosen few, bankruptcies, increase in crime, pan handlers, drug addicts, street gangs, an over crowded and inadequate DSS building and now daily shootings!!!

Anyone who would vote for Susan Savage, for any public office has to be completely out of their minds!!! SEND HER AND HER CREW PACKING!!!!!

It looks like they have embargoed this kind of news as best they could.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

NOPE....not there! You'll find it in Monday or Tuesdays addition as a small blurb!! But they will have to check with the liberal socialists first to find out how they want them to spin it!!!!

Good job TU!!!

A man is dead after a shooting Saturday afternoon.

It happened around three at Watt St. and Tremont Avenue.

Police say a man was shot in the leg, and was found dead on the side of the road.

They have no suspects at this time, and as of 8pm, the street there remains closed while police investigate.

Hey, at least we don't have to worry about the get-away driver or "wheelman", to be texting and driving when leaving the scene of the shooting.  Thank you Susan Savage.  For making Schenectady a safer place.

Shot in the leg and died???

It's not that unusual.
He was shot with a SHOTGUN, and once the femoral artery is cut, you bleed out faster than if someone cut your jugular vein.

In fact (yes I know it's fiction) I was just watching Band Of Brothers, and somebody accidentally shot himself in the femoral artery (the largest one in the body if I'm not mistaken) and died within a couple of minutes.

The Band of Brothers is absolutely NOT fiction, and is a meticulous account of a company of the 101st division written by historian Steven Ambrose. I eread the book in 1997. The actors in the HBO special from 2001 look uncannily like the original men in that company. On thee note of the femoral artery, yes, being hit there can be the deadliest wound you can receive from any weapon let alone the deadliest, the shotgun. If you could have one most deadly weapon, the 12 gauge shotgun is it.

SCHENECTADY
Man, 18, is slain on city street
BY DAVID LOMBARDO Gazette Reporter

An 18-year-old man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon on Tremont Avenue, near the intersection with Watt Street.
Schenectady Police spokesman Adriel Linyear said police discovered the man lying in the street after responding to a call reporting a shooting at approximately 3 p.m. The man died at the scene from a gunshot wound to his upper body, Linyear said.
Police were withholding the name of the shooting victim until his family has been notified, although residents of the nearby Steinmetz Homes housing project said the victim’s mother, grandmother and other relatives were on the scene after the shooting.
Schenectady Mayor Brian Stratton, who was on the scene for an hour, “expressed [his] profound condolences to members of the family that were on the scene.”
Linyear Saturday evening said the police had not determined a motivation for the shooting and had not determined the type of gun used. He said the police are looking for a sport utility vehicle that was seen leaving the scene.
“An SUV was seen leaving the scene. The make of the vehicle has not been confirmed and it has not been confirmed that that vehicle was involved,” he said.
The shooting took place adjacent to the Steinmetz Homes housing project, with residents reporting that the victim’s dirt bike was found against one of the houses near Tremont Avenue.
Based on residents’ descriptions from interviews Saturday afternoon, the victim may have abandoned the bike or crashed it in the courtyard, and was pursued into the street by a man on foot. They suggested that the victim fl ed down Tremont Avenue toward Watt Street before being shot. Then the young man stumbled further down the street and collapsed near the sidewalk.
“He was alive for at least 10 minutes,” said one resident, who witnessed the immediate aftermath. She said that a driver going down the street called 911 after seeing a girl in the street screaming.
According to witnesses, people surrounding the man began assuring him that help was on the way. Police arrived and paramedics worked on the man, who apparently died before he could be transported to a hospital.
Area residents also said a woman who appeared to be the victim’s mother arrived half an hour after the shooting, tried to approach the body and said, “I need to see if this is my son.”
About 15 minutes before the incident, a woman from Colonie with family in the area reported seeing a truck with its windows knocked in on Faciolla Drive, which is near the site of the shooting.
A resident of Steinmetz Homes said the truck belonged to the victim’s friend and the woman from Colonie said the truck was moved shortly after she discovered it.
In the aftermath of the crime, a mother who lives in the housing project imposed a 10 p.m. curfew on her son. She said her son was friends with the victim and that this was a reality check for him. The son was on his way to a house where friends of the victim were assembling.
According to Stratton, the shooting Saturday afternoon was not linked to the shooting on State Street in front of Bombers Burrito Bar around 1 a.m. on Friday.
He said the circumstances are unique and are linked only by coincidence. .................>>>>...............>>>>................................>>>>............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01104&AppName=1

Just another "unfortunate" homocide.  Probably just another Schenectady misunderstanding settled with a shotgun blast.  Isn't that right DVOR?

"Linked only by coincidence" but neither GANG RELATED? What's wrong with the gutless reporters in this town?

When is someone going to question the Metrograft/Savage/SOS party line and tell it like it is? The City of Schenectady is being overrun by gang killers. The rot, decline and crime is expanding Countywide. No one is safe. The Sheriff should start an anti-gang task force. The City and SPD heads are too deeply in the sand. Stat rounding up gang leaders and act. Not just Savage and her crew should be removed. The Mayor and City Hall must be changed.

Just a misunderstanding between friends I am sure. Isolated,

What do you mean failed miserably? SS Savage has moved aggressively-not against gangs-against the real County problems. Texting by teenage girls and calorie counts at Mickey D's.
