Nazism was a kind of 'political religion'. Secular movements like Nazism and Communism can be described as a political religion or a secular faith. The leaders and the secular hopefusl knew and know that 'religion of any kind' is to have a place in public life. Hence....political religion!! The movement to remove religion from the masses makes the secular leaders to believe that a political religion will satisfy mans quest for meaning. C.S. Lews warned of  tragedy by attempting to build man's own political/secular version of religion.

German's viewed themselves as christians during the Hilter regime. But it was only under the guise of Nazism, secular, political religion. If this weren't true, there wouldn't have been a 'true' Christian revival AFTER Hitler and Nazism.

As far as the present day pope......GB is correct.......they had no choices as kids. That was 60+ years ago and is irrelevant!!
    

and in America the 60's happened and kids DID have choices...albeit the Beatles etc and their 'middle eastern' religious hypocrisy......along with the
rest of the hippies......they then became yuppies.....and here we are.....the 80's crowd taking it secular......the religious leaders have failed on a
large scale........
