Quoted from Shadow
There was no crime in Albany either until one of the Congress was mugged leaving the bar on Elk St then the area was rid of crime in a couple of weeks. It only counts when politicians are involved.

Or if, and when, an innocent bystander is hurt. Criminals have taken over many of the neighborhoods and now the slime is oozing its way into the multi-million dollar micro-section of Schenectady. The cops and the City will never acknowledge the true problem with crime in the area. Their denial will cause someone else to be hurt, and most likely it will be a tragic outcome.

Not a problem.  As DVOR and the Gazette would like you to beleive --- It was an isolated incident --- or --- an unfortunate misunderstanding.

Check with the actual crime statistics  .. you might actually learn something .. downtown Schenectady is
actually quite safe -- except for the annoying RepubliCAN'TS talking to themselves and drooling.

Safe Schenectady? Let’s Just Save Schenectady
by Pat Zollinger
Well, what is it? Is downtown safe or not? In the early morning hours of Friday September 17, 2010 there was a shooting outside of Bombers Burrito Bar on State Street. This story appeared buried in the Daily Gazette in Saturday’s edition on page B7 (page 19 of the newspaper) with the usual excuses of “it could happen anywhere.” Well I guess it could happen anywhere but this particular incident happened in downtown Schenectady. Statistics are cited, witnesses are quoted, cameras are aimed and the police mark out evidence and blood spatter.

City of Schenectady politicians and hacks alike have invested millions upon millions of our tax dollars into this venue, so the “appearance of safety” is extremely important to them. To lure patrons to Proctor’s, to bring in the social elites and to draw business to our downtown businesses. Unfortunately the businesses that “get the draw” are often those associated with loud music and liquor and our downtown offers a variety of both.

Then on Sunday we learn in the news that an 18 year old man (or youth depending on who does the reporting) was shot to death on a city street near one of the housing projects in Schenectady. There was no indication at the time as to whether the shootings were related and the police weren’t speculating. So we have two shootings in two days with one resulting in death. How safe does that make you feel?

Then on Monday we read that downtown patrons and workers alike are worried about their own safety there. Social workers believe that drug dealers and worse have been attracted to Schenectady with its great welfare benefits and sub-social service agencies. People are concerned that with the drop in the economy more people have become desperate. Others related personal experiences of attack, or the attacks made on friends and acquaintances while they were downtown. That sounded to me like it was the plain truth, as one day I personally witnessed a small gang of men scoping out my vehicle in broad daylight.

Finally on Friday September 24, 2010 in what could only be described as a “pre-paid advertisement” the Daily Gazette had a front page local article citing that downtown is safe. All the “right” witnesses were garnered and all the “correct” statements were taken and printed in what appears to be an effort to continue the perception of safety where in reality the safety is only in the minds of those who stand to lose the most money.

The city has pumped huge amounts of money into downtown but it’s only the taxpayers who stand to lose on this effort. Many of the brand new buildings continue to stand empty. It’s my understanding that the visibility of police protection during the day is limited to an officer sitting in a patrol car parked at State and Jay, reading a newspaper. Patrol cars throughout the city sport two officers speeding past the most crime ridden areas. Visibility during the day may offset any problems that occur during the day, but will not do a thing for the night time and the problems that come with darkness and the only venues open being entertainment. So in order to really change the situation here, we need to change the way this game is played. .............>>>>..................>>>>..............http://www.schenectadyinformer.com/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?m-1285425452

Fight site
Marv Cermak

Schenectady police were called twice in three nights last weekend to stop fights outside Bombers Burrito Bar. Three weekends ago, a shotgun blast ended a scrap at the same downtown location.

Just past midnight Friday, a bunch of young men and women clashed before and while police arrived. Cops needed nearly a half-hour to restore order. They sent all the drunks packing without making arrests.

At almost the same hour Sunday, a fight erupted in the street and spilled back into the bar. The police report indicates one yahoo, who attempted to pull an officer's service weapon from its holster, was arrested on several charges.

Back on Sept. 17, minutes before 1 a.m., a couple of revelers exiting Bombers exchanged words. This square-off was settled when one battler shot the other in the thigh...............>>>>...................>>>>............http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Trying-to-place-a-familiar-face-687592.php

Bravo Cel! She broke the gang fight story on this site days before the TU. As usual the pathetic Gazetto is in the bag for Metrograft, Death Ray and "Mayor for Life" Son of Sam.

Downtown is worse now than before Metrograft poured $100 Million in sales tax dollars into 2 blocks. Gangland. Because of SS Savage's implosion at the polls the entire house of cards is tumbling. The City with SOS massive 40% increase in spending in 7 years cannot afford vital Police and Fire protection. The Bellevue Firehouse is to be closed. 19 fire fighters to be laid off. Broke churches will have to close or flee the tax onslaught. All the phony cheer leading cannot change the facts on the ground.

Bringing fights back to Downtown! Another SS Savage miracle!

But shh...don't mention the word gang. Mayor SOS, Death Ray, and the Gazetto don't like it when anyone tells it like it is on Desolation Blvd. Where's the gang plan Mr Mayor? Right ignore the obvious and lay off police and fire.

I agree in part to this. However......there are people that we know who live in mt. pleasant/cutler street area. They tell us there is crime going on ALL the time. They also say that there will be a cop car down the road who sees the crime happening and just sits there.

So my question is.......while laying off police seems bizarre considering the high crime in the city.......what actually would the difference be? Do the taxpayers continue to pay high wages and life benefits to cops who won't or don't do their job?
