Why not MT--it's a government job.  If people can bundle their time from different places they have worked in givernment, teaching, local goverment, then why not take advantage of the incentive.

Peeps you are spot-on.

How about the sweetheart retirement deal handed to Jackie Denny???  Allowed to use 3 sick days a week for about 8 months before he retired.  Quid pro quo for running in a Dem Primary, in which he got beat, then went on to lose the general and then went on to get a planning board appt.

And I agree that he contributes ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the efforts of the Planning Commission.  I've attended about a dozen PC meetings over the past year and he always looks like he is asleep.  He seldom asks questions or makes any comments.  Didn't know the history on this dude but it seems in line with his current performance on the PC.

Why should the taxpayers of Rotterdam have to pay her retirement - she's done NOTHING for this town except sit around reading emails all day. NOTHING productive.  This was pure patronage - something yall are yelling about in the previous administration(s) - yet here it's ok -why?

We could sit here all night and find faults and incompetences and back room deals with ALL political parties and ALL administrations!! Don't ya hear yourselves???? Bitchin' about the last aministration....Bitchin' about this administration.....and for doing what???.................the same identical thing!!!!!!!!! WTF???

Don't you all get it yet???? Or are you ALL brain dead, as it appears? Or are you all as dumbed down as the government would like you to be?

BOTH PARTIES DO IT!!!! That is why rotterdam is the laughing stock and why rotterdam is a sh!thole and why the only TRAFFIC rotterdam attracts are the walmart lovers from the Hill and Mt. Pleasant!!! >

These schenectady county politicians, on both sides of the isle have to finally get over themselves. NONE OF THEM......NOT ONE....is the sharpest tool in the shed!! They don't have to be......look at what they are governing!!

There is not ONE candidate I would support or vote for in rotterdam's town election! Is this the best they have to offer rotterdam residents? They are just the 'same old, same old'!!!

Come on here rotterdam people....smarten up!!!

You seem to have very strong GOP leanings.  I trust you know all about the Jackie Denny "arrangement."  Did you ever speak out about it or where you "compromised" by politics?  Maybe you even peddeled it for your patron saints.  I just think that the political rubbish in Town Hall left over by the Tomassone Admin should have been let go.  The back stabbing has been horrendous and Tomassone, Signore and Parisi's finger prints are all over it. This whole retirement issue should have been a non controversial issue just like it was in other towns and cities.

FDG is surrounded by soldiers from a different political encampment.  Now more than ever FDG should clean out the barn with a fire truck hose.  Enough is enough!  We voted for change!!  Not politics as usual ala Steve Tomassone.

IMHO

see it really doesn't have to do with the best interest of the town.....just who is related to who/who is sleeping with who/who is cousins
with who/who is engaged to who and who is a Hatfield and who is a McCoy........tell me I am wrong....go ahead and sell it to me baby....

PS there are no soldiers in this town....just a bunch of greedy self important babies.......that need to retire and beat feet already.....

Retirement incentive??? For someone there EIGHT MONTHS??

the resolution passed on 8/31/10 has a section which requires the full town board to approve the
list of eligible employees ... my guess is that this a snow ball will have an easier time in Hades than
such a list will have garnering 3 positive votes on the Town Board .. so this may all amount to nothing.

The same way MM held up to his convictions on the first two votes?

I think that the inclusion of the new section -- calling for town board approval of the list
of eligible employees -- was the difference that changed his vote.

Frankly, I am not sure how I would have voted on the matter .. if I were on the Town Board myself.
I do give Mr. Martin credit for showing up, voicing his concerns, and actually taking a public vote on the
resolution -- at least he didn't play "duck and cover" to avoid the controversy.

On the retirement incentive

the number mentioned was 5 but the published list is 4  who is the 5th???

here is the old roosters(think wine company logo) plan

Meers retires from the highway department.
the highway super. resigns his position.
Town Board hires the old super. for Meers' position for a for a short time.
the old highway super files for retirement under the plan

the old rooster then halves the highway supers' salary in the budget and
appoints one of his crew to the position.
all this is arranged by using the counsel to the state Assembly Democrats by none other than Darlene Mullally.

i here there is an email floating in the public domain in which the highway super. is urging the
council to accept the incentives.

the deputy highway super, the allegedly boyfriend to an ex town board member...
is supposedly rankled by this because he was hoping to get the highway super's spot himself when the
current highway super retired.

how much will this cost????

so who will the new highway super be???

and how does the current highway super.'s party feel about all of this??

is perfect storm is brewing for election day 2010???

and wait it gets better the comptroller is departing mid 2011.

so much for the 2020 b-day bash in rotterdam...

WOW!  Tippy that's a BLOCKBUSTER!  So now we know the special skills of the confidential secretary.  Capable of pulling strings to get loyal party members early retirement at the Town residents expense.  And to use counsel from the Assembly, . . . . . , is that even legal??

The Town employees should start a lawsuit again Rotterdam on this resolution.   What's one more Article 78 added to the pile.   And wouldn't that be a hoot...the had-to-have-because-of-her-connections Confidential  Secretary would be costing the Town the expense of fighting the lawsuit!   That would negate the grant that she got for the Town..oh wait, that was only BS.  We've yet to benefit from this hire.

is the highway super's job to hot to touch??

30 years of service is deserving of retirement,

what about the political ramifications of such a move at this time

silence on such an issue could be confirmation of the result

who would be next in line or is DVofR correct in a consolidation move and highway funds transfer to the county

As the Highway Superintendent is an elected position .. the state law would not allow abolishing the
position until the end of the current term of office.  So even if the Highway Supt were to retire ..
someone would have to be appointed to fill the remainder of the term.
Then there is the matter of how many days before the election to the next term - the action to abolish an elected position has to happen a certain number of days  BEFORE the scheduled election .. and off
the top of my head I forget whether it is like 3 months or 6 months ... so the "window of opportunity" to
pass the local legislation to abolish the position would be like from now through early March 2011 but couldn't take effect until Jan 1 2012  --- and there may be one other hitch .. abolishing the Supt of
Highways may require BOTH a Town Board action AND a referendum vote by the voters of the town.
