Well this is clearly NOT the con/rep side of you. Redistribution of wealth TO the wealthy!!! Taxpayer's money used to seal a PRIVATE transaction!!!
If this was such a prime location, private businesses would have been bitting at the bit to secure it....BUT THEY DIDN'T!!! And IF this was such a great location, I would be hard pressed to believe that a multi-million dollar company like BBL would turn it down for $125K!!!
You DON'T use taxpayer's money to seal a private property transaction!!! YOU JUST DON'T!! Let capitalism and free enterprise work!!!
I guess the metroplex is just as guilty and has just as much egg on their face for allowing the R'I'DA (Industrial) to give money to a gin mill. Last I knew a gin mill wasn't classified as 'industrial'. And wasn't it the same metroplex/Gillen who slapped the RIDA's hands for supporting Long Pond.......also not industrial????
Perhaps the people of rotterdam can get together and file an article 78 against the metroplex/RIDA, and the town of rotterdam for misappropriation of taxpayer's money, huh? hmmmmmm...............
I guess it's all in who ya know and who's hand gets greased, huh? Hey and does Gillen get a county paid car to drive around in all day/night at the taxpayer's expense???? I heard 'yes'!!!
IDA funds have been spent on "non-industrial" projects for years .. it is legal .. and Rotterdam isn't the first and/or only to use IDA funds to help promote a non-idustrial commercial enterpirse.
I am a conservative .. and a realist .. we can not LOWER taxes without EXPANDING our commercial tax base.
If Metroplex and the Rotterdam IDA do not work together .. we will spend the next several decades watching other towns progress and prosper .. while we lanquish .. as we have since the 1960's.

So because the ALL do it, makes it right? Come on....the taxpayers did not agree on giving their money to an 'industrial development program' just to bring in apts, condos and gin mills!! That wasn't what we were told. And that is NOT how the originators of the RIDA did business. When the proposed walmart supercenter wanted to land in rotterdam....the RIDA already knew that walmart would not be a beneficiary of IDA monies. WHAT CHANGED!!!
I don't care how you spin it.....IT'S WRONG!!! And I would have to bet that an article 78 WOULD hold up in favor of the taxpayers!!!!

I think the project is a good one. I like the cooperation between Metroplex and the IDA -- because I want my hometown to move forward. I hope to see more projects from the new Rotterdam IDA-Metroplex cooperation.

What you really mean is that you hope to see more raping of the taxpayers to support 'private transactions'! You hope to see people, who live in the highest taxed state/county to continue to pay high taxes to support 'private business transactions'.
Thanks....that's real conservative of you! We are so glad that you are watching out for the already overtaxed taxpayers!!!

Show me some proof that the taxpayers were actually "raped" to support this project. The IDA funds are separate from the town's general fund. It gets funds through grants and the sale of bonds .. which it uses to support projects that generate cash to replenish the IDA funds. The only taxpayer money that may have been involved is the Metroplex tax - part of our sales tax. If some Metroplex dollars were used to demolish the plaza .. to make it "shovel ready" for the new developer .. than that is a small price to pay for a new project which will generate property tax income and sales tax income .... and income tax income (paid by the employers and employees) -- all of which benefits the taxpayers overall.

You are kidding...right? Who pays for these FUNDS THROUGH GRANTS AND SALE OF BONDS!!! Does the government just print this money? Pull it out of thin air? Pluck it off a money tree???
IT COMES FROM OUR TAXES....OUR TAXES!!!!
And do you REALLY believe that BBL, a multimillion dollar company, would have let this VALUABLE piece of real estate go for a mere $125K!! If you believe that, then I have a bridge to no-where to sell you!!!
Thanks again for watching out for the over taxed taxpayer!!!

SEWERS will generate property tax, income and sales tax!!! NOT a gin mill paid for in part by the already overtaxed taxpayer for a PRIVATE TRANSACTION!!!

When you sell bonds, who pays the bond holders with interest when it matures? It must be magic.
Metroplex has been in existence for 10 years. Why after 10 years of "economic development" BBL needed $125K to invest in Rotterdam(Schenectady County)? Why after 10 years still oppresive taxation? At what point does Schenectady County have private investment that is not subsidized by tax dollars? 10, 20, 30, 50 years?
I'll tell you when - NEVER! It's a permanent slush fund for the political party in power.
Republicans got exactly what they deserved for creating Metroplex.

DVOR, With statements like this...you must be drinking the KoolAid. There is no doubt!
I imagine the Bagel Shop, and then Gabriel's will be demolished next at taxpayer expense. Then the crappy house up on the hill that the South China people lived in.

The Recovery Restaurant is more than a gin mill .. it will pay property taxes, it will generate sales tax revenue from food and drinks served, and it will generate income tax revenue from the employees hired and the profits paid to the owners themselves ----- if you don't understand the simple logic of the economic benefits from bringing a new business to any community -- then you should ask the Kindergarteners over at Jefferson Elementary to explainit you.

Property tax wasn't being paid on Capital Plaza? Gee, that's news.
Kindergarteners also know that taking paying customers from one bar/restaurant and moving them to another bar/restaurant within the same County doesn't generate MORE tax revenue. It's a transfer of customers(sale tax) within the same County. UNLESS you are so delusional that you believe people will travel from surrounding counties to eat/drink at Recovery Restaurant. That's laughable.
How many bar/restaurants were in Capital Plaza over the years? Where are they now?
The only people that make out on this deal are the owners of BBL and the Democrat Party.

An empty building is not as valuable as an occupied one -- thus the property taxes collected should be more. An empty building does NOT generate sales tax revenue nor income tax revenue. An empty building does NOT generate jobs.
As for taking business from other places - there really are no sports bars in Rotterdam. So it would actually keep some town residents IN Rotterdam when they are looking to go to a sports bar and would attract people from surrounding communities.
As for restaurants, Rotterdam has a few - I patronize TOPS, Broadway Cafe, and McClaine's - I would still patronize them and add the Recovery Room maybe once a month or so.

Spending taxpayer's money to sweeten a 'private transaction' deal with a hand picked multi-million dollar company is government extortion at it's best!!
Are you implying that BBL wouldn't have sealed a 'private transaction' deal WITHOUT $125K of taxpayer's money?????
