I believe bringing the ice cream truck back to Rotterdam is a great idea. Over the decades long ban manynnew safety features have been added. Trucks are not permitted to sell on state and county roads where there is heavy traffic. Children are also taught to look for cars prior to crossing the street. When I was born car seats were not needed i satvon my mothers lap. Now any parent that even thought of attempting this would be crucified by the public. I remember going into kindergarten in the early 1980s and learning about letter people. Children now exit kindergarten reading books. I firmly believe that ice cream trucks have changed over the decades and are worth giving a second chance to. For some maybe you remember having ice cream trucks and how you always had the $2 and waited for his arrival. The look on a childs face when they see the ice cream truck coming down their street will be unforgettable. So please consider bringing these trucks back.
I think the trucks should be allowed back too, however, no matter how much you "teach" the kids to look before crossing road, they are still kids and will only think about what they were taught IF their main purpose for crossing the road IS crossing the road. When a basketball goes to the other side of the street, they think about getting the ball first and crossing the road second...sometimes all you teach them goes out the window.
Just for reference, the girl that was killed in the town (which prompted the ban) was going back across the street to get a nickel from her mother because she was short that amount. She was thinking about the ice cream and the money she needed and NOT about crossing the road. She was only 5.

Oh Ron you don't even drive since your Auntie won't sign off for you to get your license.

It appears that there is a 'safety issue concern' regarding ice cream trucks. Again, the elected officials should not only check for current insurance credentials, but perhaps even a back ground check of those who will be driving and/or serving their product. As well as a legal driver's license. And of course a copy of their sales tax #.
If all clears the litmus test......then they should be allowed to peddle their goods.

Got the license at 15? sounds like another tale to add to "the list!" People get their licenses at 16, but I am sure you will come up with an even bigger one to try to explain it away.

I took Driver's Ed in 10th grade, passed my written test and road test, and was legally issued a driver's license in the state that I was living in -- when I was 16.

You JUST said 15. I will patient with your disability as much as I can. You also need to have your permit for a period before you are issued the license. Of course in the "state that you were living in" may have been a state of illusion. We understand. It is OK, just lie back and rest.

I received my license when I was still 15 .. at the end of 10th grade. The laws of the state in which I was living at the time were fully obeyed.
Personally, I think the laws regarding driver's licenses were much better back then -- glad I was not a teenager five to ten years later.

There will never be any clarity on even something so mundane. Stories have to made up even for this. Pray for grace so we can avoid being impatient with his issue.

Everyone makes a typographical error from time to time ... I got my driver's license at the end of 10th grade when I was still 15 -- it was legal to do so in the state that I was living in at the time.
