SCHENECTADY
Proctors to sell building, relocate artists

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

Proctors has a purchase agreement for 440 State St., its incubator arts building, from a company that would bring a corporate headquarters downtown and put the three-story structure back on the tax rolls, local offi cials said.
Proctors CEO Philip Morris would not reveal the name of the company, only that there is a “potential buyer” for it. Metroplex Development Authority Chairman Ray Gillen said the company wants to bring its corporate headquarters to Schenectady.
Proctors acquired the former International Order of Odd Fellows hall at 440 State St. in 1997 and turned it into an arts incubator building by offering lowcost rent to artists. It currently houses eight visual artists, the Myers Dance Studio and the Puppet People. It also contains a 120-seat theater.
Morris said he is helping the 440 State St. tenants relocate to other sites downtown. Four of the visual artists will move into the former KeyBank building on State Street, which Proctors owns. Morris said he remains confident he will find space for the dance studio and the Puppet People.
Catherine Minnery, who operates “Working” Gallery/Studio at 440 State St., said Proctors told her and other tenants they would have to leave the building by the end of July. She and three other visual artists will relocate to the former KeyBank. She said the others choose not to relocate for personal reasons.
“Proctors wants us to stay downtown,” Minnery said. .................>>>>................>>>>................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00901&AppName=1

Anything that takes property away from Proctor's and puts it back on the tax rolls is good news. With the coming massive City/County tax increases {because of this type of nonsense} we need as many payers as possible.

The funny thing is that they will locate these "artists" to the old Key Bank? I thought this was to become a "catering hall". With Mercury Morris, the infamous TV producer in charge?  Next put the old Key Bank back on the tax rolls.

I've heard some pretty interesting stories coming out of 440 State Street and the surrounding area. Mr. Cancer Stick is not very well like beyond and outside of city hall or the county building. From what I've heard, Mr. Cancer Stick is not approachable. No one will confront him, not even the ones inside city hall or the county building. Basically, what he says goes.

There appears to be more beneath the surface of what is reported by 'our home town newspaper'.

He hasn't been giving as many speeches telling people how many thousands of people he brought downtown lately. The Gazette can only protect his financial mismanagement for so long.

I am waiting for a complete expose on TV-16-ROTFLMAO. Nothing changes but your taxes are going way up. 440 State was a disaster where no one ever brought any "art".

Real classic headlines on the continually tanking Schenectady County sales tax numbers. Here's the actual Gazetto headline-CASH FROM SALES TAX RISE -Counties are faring better{?} Except Schenectady County under Metrograft/Death Ray and Co. You can fool some of the people some of the time.
