They don’t publish them in the newspaper, they publish them on-line. The issue is that you must be a subscriber to read them -and- you must have on-line access. Not all of our citizens in Schenectady are computer savvy, nor do they want to be.
This on-line letter in support of me was published (so to speak) on October 30, 2010. Thank you Margaret Fergusson for taking the time to write it.
Time for ‘checks and balance’: elect Zollinger to City Council
I am writing this letter to urge Schenectady city residents to consider voting for Patricia Zollinger for a seat on the City Council. While I do not know Ms. Zollinger personally, I have seen and heard her speak at council meetings and feel she would be a great advocate for city residents, as opposed to the one-party rule we are now stuck with.
Our taxes are among the highest in the state, and I question how this has benefited the average homeowner. As our taxes keep going up, new fees are being invented for services that have always been funded by our property taxes. Unfortunately, under the present administration, the focus has all been on new downtown development, while our neighborhoods continue to be neglected. The streets in front of our homes are crumbling, home values are falling and “For Sale” signs are cropping up all over the city.
I am a lifelong resident of Schenectady, and am proud to have grown up in the once great neighborhood of Mont Pleasant. I am saddened about the current negative reputation of Schenectady, and perhaps some new faces in our administration could reverse that trend.
Not just For Sale but now Auction Sale! As seen in the historic GE Realty Plot where trapped property owners cannot find anyone willing to pay the oppressive City taxes. Every City neighborhood is in free fall, Downtown is a tax free facade with no jobs, the horrible all DEM administration refuses to cut spending and refuses to demand PILOTS from Proctor's, Ellis or Union College, or anyone else hogging City services for free.
Then the latest affront the attempted layoff of 19 fire fighters and freeze on police hiring. Great thinking in the middle of a gang war. While the golf pro is making $314,000 part time but according to the Gazetto editors doing an "excellent job" (of hogging 3/5 of the Muni course profits?) This must stop. A step in the right direction is getting Pat Zollinger-ROW G-on the other side of the rail. The longest journey starts with a single step.
Does that Ericson guy live in the city? Someone told me his house is for sale............yes?......no?

Pat, many will say "sorry you didn't win tonight" - and I'd agree with that 100%, normally. Yes, I'm disappointed that there weren't more people willing to stand up and vote for a change - but frankly I expected nothing less. Sheeple can be shown the watering hole, but can't be forced to drink.
Personally, I think you can be a MUCH bigger voice from the outside of the aisle, not bound by the politics in "the ring". Being outside the circle will certainly give you a much greater freedom to fight FOR the people than being bound and gagged inside the ring of fire. You've got a fire in your gut. You can do more damage from the outside!
Don't let the bastards win - keep standing up for fellow residents and exposing the city council bullshit.
Thank you for putting everything on the line and fighting, MANY people, including myself, appreciate it.

I think zollinger had an EXCELLENT showing for ONE line!! And I'll betcha that this is just the beginning for her!!!

Sheeple just voting democrats and higher taxes, more spending, and jobs exiting the area and the state.
We're losing what 2 congressional districts soon?
Yeah NYS - keep voting all the liberals in.
I cannot wait someday to leave this state, and (take with me) the thousands I pay in income and sales taxes.
I'll be laughing as the sheeple continue to vote in tax & spend politicians, while more and more people and businesses move away, dramatically lowering the tax base to pay for it.
Over a third of the vote on Row G! This was no defeat. A tremendous showing against the corrupt DEM machine. Can you imagine if see had Row B or Row C which were both blank?
Pat Z has been right from the beginning. Hopefully this is the start of a new day in Schenectady politics.

I, for one, am very disappointed, and no, I'm not being sarcastic.
At one point, you have to stop thinking of it as being like rooting on your favorite baseball team, or American "Idol" contestant. It's not hitting a rock with a stick, nor is it karaoke, it is the quality of your life, and the future of your children that is at stake.
New York State, is pathetic. Less than 12% of the population even bothered to vote.
Don't like what's happening? Well then, maybe you should have voted.
This article describing my loss appears today in the Daily Gazette. I called Kathleen this morning as there is one very important error that has to be corrected. I will not ask the Republicans for their endorsement next year, I will run on the independent slate, S.T.O.P which is an acronym for Schenectady Taxpayers Outrage Party. Taxpayers in Schenectady need a voice and a vote on the city council that are not accountable to anyone other than the Taxpayers.
Getting over 35% of the vote down on lowly ROW G is an amazing accomplishment! You did better than SS Savage who wasted $250,000.
Never say never in politics. Everything will be different next year. Keep building bridges with other reformers. You have a hardy group of supporters that will only grow as the continued fiscal incompetence of these DEM lifers finally gets revealed. Keep calling them as you see them. You have been right from the beginning and have more support than you know.
