Word has it Shane Bargy is returning to Schenectady as the new Boys & Girls Club executive director. He's returning to his hometown after a couple years as head of the B&GC affiliate in Atlantic City.
Some may recall Bargy was bumped out of his job as Schenectady County Youth Board director in a political maneuver necessary to create an $80,000 plum for Ed Kosiur.
County Legislature Democrats eliminated the youth board director title. Then, they dreamed up essentially the same position with a higher salary calling it special assistant to whoever.
That move enabled the Democrats to take very good care of Kosiur for running and losing an Assembly race against George Amedore. Kosiur, a Democrat, is a former county legislator and city councilman.
At the time of all this manipulation, Legislature Chairwoman Sue Savage said Bargy's job was being scratched because, "county youth programs were lackluster.''
It was abundantly clear the politicians shafted Bargy. Some folks I spoke with were pleased with Bargy's expected return calling him a unifier well thought of by kids he worked with.
He will fill a vacancy created in March when Tom Ciancetta was promoted to Northeast regional services director for the agency. He was with the Schenectady club for 26 years.
