ROTTERDAM
Town to eye Five Corners rehab
Grant to fund study of improvements to busy area

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Justin Mason at 395-3113 or jmason@dailygazette.net.

By all accounts, Rotterdam’s Five Corners isn’t the most ideal intersection.
The melange of busy roads and bustling commercial businesses lacks a single bit of sidewalk, despite being located near the town’s largest park and being surrounded by residential areas. Thousands of vehicles pass through the intersection each day, and traffic snarls frequently develop.
In the area beyond Five Corners, several highly visible buildings remain vacant and increasingly dilapidated. This includes the mixed-used building owned by CVS Pharmacy on Guilderland Avenue, the old Sorrento Ristorante several blocks away and, more distant toward the Mohanasen school complex, the former International Charter School of Schenectady on Draper Avenue.
“We’ve got that whole area on our radar,” said Peter Comenzo, the town’s senior planner.
In the coming months, town offi cials will begin scrutinizing this central area of Rotterdam with the aid of a $45,000 grant received from the Capital District Transportation Committee in April. The goal is to develop an idea to improve the area that can then be used to lobby for project funding through the state or federal government.
“If you don’t have a plan, you’re never going to get the funding,” Comenzo said.
Five Corners is comprised of two state roads, two county roads and a short town road. The study area also includes a stretch of Guilderland Avenue, which is also a state road.
The area of the study branches out from Five Corners to the edge of the Rotterdam Corporate Park to the west and the Schenectady border to the north. The study also includes the area from the intersection to Spruce Street to the south and Pauline Avenue to the east. ..................>>>>.....................>>>>....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01802&AppName=1

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

how about a triple flyover with individual exits for each possible turn and "NO" stoplights or overhead signs
and 5 baseball field at ground level

not much can help the area other than a
facade program
sidewalks
underground utilities
overhead signage
and enforcement of the towns sign code

I like it.  The only change I would make is, at the ground level - 5 olympic sized swimming pools - with the no bid contract going to DelGallo Country Pools.

Not jealous honey.....through the uncontrollable laughter, it is just head shaking with unbelief and disappointment. That is the general consensus. But not to worry.....AS and GP (the young republicans) will come to the rescue for the dems!!

As far as the 5 corners, there isn't much room to do too much of anything. Perhaps sidewalks and some road repair/paving. It appears that with all the years of spot zoning and haphazard development, rotterdam will remain as it is for the most part..........a sh!thole!

Won't see any improvement there for at least 10 years.  You know they'll need to do the study and then a study to study the study.  It will end up as a round a bout.
