Muslim Leader Speaks Out Against "Ground Zero Mosque"

Posted in:  Original
JEREMY ANDERSON AND BUSHRA BURNEY | Aug 6, 2010 | 8:53 AM

A controversial plan to build a 13-story cultural center housing a mosque in lower Manhattan has incited an anti-Islamic backlash across the country.  Park51, formerly known as the "Cordoba House" and widely referenced as "Ground Zero Mosque", was favored by the New York City community board in a 29-1 vote with the full backing of Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

While the overwhelming majority of opposition to the facility comes from conservative Americans, one prominent Muslim thinker warns the Muslim community that the idea is "dangerously misguided."

Akbar Ahmed, an Islamic studies professor at American University in Washington D.C. says Muslims have failed to fully realize the depth of the effects on the American public due to the 2001 September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

"I don't think the Muslim leadership has fully appreciated the impact of  9/11 on America.   They assume Americans have forgotten 9/11 and even, in a profound way, forgiven 9/11, and that has not happened. The wounds remain largely open," Ahmed said.  “And when wounds are raw, an episode like constructing a house of worship – even one protected by the Constitution, protected by law - becomes like  salt in the wounds."...............>>>>......................>>>>..............http://www.illumemag.com/zine/.....nd-Zero-Mosque-13210

What Professor Akbar Ahmed is very politely saying...
Muslims will probably be killed by a backlash of right wing nut bigotry and building a Mosque any where in the USA is dangerous for Muslims.

philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

Ohhhh, good! Maybe they will pack up and jump on a slow boat to Mecca and get the hell out of here. Those that want to Americanize can stay. Those that betray our country after coming here should be shot as traitors after a speedy military trial. GTFO is what I say to the ones that want to murder their daughters because their dresses aren't long enough, or expect to install foot baths in public places, or expect us to constantly kiss their a$$es. democraps may oblige these murderous cultists, but the rest of America is sick and tired of it.

Speaking of the nips, Obama is sending a delegation over to the teeth gnashing ceremony where everyone can scream and cry and declare their animosity for America "for what it did to the Japanese." Of course the government controlled media picks up the story every August as a way to further run down America and "point to her faults" so to speak (remember that newspaper reporters and editors generally despise America) and a way to say "HEY-see how rotten America is, and how they don't play fair!"

I predict this will pave the way for America to "officially apologize" to the people of Japan for dropping the heinous atom bomb on them. I would predict that the democrap administration that is in power in about 2020-2030 will be doing this because they absolutely must wait for those vets to all be gone without a trace, and safely ensconced in their graves before they can rewrite that part of history. Now you will dismiss what I say, but 15 years from now you will remember Graham Bonnet's words on this matter. And that is all I have to say.

Is that the only thing you got from that article? i guess one could look at it that way, but I would have thought that if there was going to be any major backlash, it would have been on 9/11 or there soon after. But the american people showed common sense believing that their government would handle it and the american's stood behind that mind thought. But since the government of the last decade has failed the american people miserably, the people are protesting and speaking out. I know boxy, you will call that racist....that's what liberal socialists do. So we'll give ya a pass on that one.

Now here we are almost 10 years later and the government has stepped aside to obliged the muslim community at all levels. This country has bent over backwards for the muslim communities.....and yet they still want more.

This just about sums it up. If these muslims were true americans, and really loved 'their new found american country', they would clearly see the issue at hand. They clearly are NOT americans.....they are muslims flexing their muscles plain and simple. Even the muslim professor can see that.

German mosque used by Sept. 11 attackers shut down
By KIRSTEN GRIESHABER, Associated Press Writer Kirsten Grieshaber, Associated Press Writer Mon Aug 9, 2:00 pm ET

BERLIN – A small Hamburg mosque once frequented by Sept. 11 attackers was shut down and searched Monday because German authorities believed the prayer house was again being used as a meeting point for Islamic radicals.

The Taiba mosque was closed and the cultural association that runs it was banned, officials in the northern German city of Hamburg said.

"We have closed the mosque because it was a recruiting and meeting point for Islamic radicals who wanted to participate in so-called jihad or holy war," said Frank Reschreiter, a spokesman for the Hamburg state interior ministry.

He said 20 police officers were searching the building and had confiscated material, including several computers. He said he had no information about any arrests.

The homes of leading members of the cultural association were also searched and the group's assets were confiscated, Hamburg's state government said in a statement.

The prayer house, until two years ago known as the al-Quds mosque, was a meeting and recruiting point years ago for some of the Sept. 11 attackers before they moved to the United States, authorities say. Sept. 11 ringleader Mohamed Atta as well as attackers Marwan al-Shehhi and Ziad Jarrah had studied in Hamburg and frequented the al-Quds mosque.

Reschreiter said the mosque had been under observation by local intelligence officers for "quite a long time" and this was the first time it had been closed. The local interior ministry said about 45 supporters of jihad live in the Hamburg area and around 200 people regularly attend Friday prayers at the Taiba mosque.

The ministry also said that over the years, the mosque also became a magnet for so-called jihad tourists — Muslims from out of town who bragged about having worshipped at the same mosque were once the Sept. 11 terrorists gathered for prayer.

The banned group's home page on the Web had been taken down by Monday and it was not possible to reach any members directly.

A 2009 report by the Hamburg branch of Germany's domestic intelligence agency said the mosque had again become the "center of attraction for the jihad scene" in the northern port city.

The current imam is Mamoun Darkazanli, who was questioned following the 2001 attacks after it emerged that he moved in some of the same circles as the hijackers. Darkazanli, a dual citizen of Germany and Syria, denied any links to Osama bin Laden or the attacks.

In October 2004, he was arrested in Hamburg on a Spanish warrant accusing him of involvement with al-Qaida and alleging that he was a bin Laden financier.

His extradition was blocked by Germany's high court and he was eventually released. In 2006, German prosecutors closed their own investigation of him, saying there was insufficient evidence to show that Darkazanli supported al-Qaida.

"He is a hate preacher," the head of the Hamburg anti-terror department, Lothar Bergmann, said at a news conference, the German news agency DAPD reported. Manfred Murck, the deputy head of the domestic intelligence agency's local branch, called him an "elder statesman of jihad."

The Hamburg interior ministry said a group of 11 militants who had traveled to military training camps in Uzbekistan in March 2009 was formed at Taiba mosque.

It said Monday that "the training courses, sermons and seminars by the association as well texts published on the group's home page not only violate the constitution but also radicalize listeners and readers."

Most of the group's members were either German converts, of Middle Eastern origin or from the Caucasus region.

"A very important factor for the radicalization of the group members was certainly their joint visits to the mosque," the intelligence report stated.

It appears that one man from the group joined the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, a terrorist organization in Central Asia, the report said.

A spokesman for an association of 30 mosques in Hamburg condemned the authorities' closure of Taiba mosque.

"I think this was a wrong move," Norbert Mueller of the Schura Association of Islamic Communities in Hamburg told The Associated Press. "Closing mosques does not make jihadists disappear."

The radical supporters of Taiba had been isolated among Hamburg's Muslim community, Mueller said. He warned that they would now try to infiltrate other Muslim groups in the city.

"At least it was easy to keep them under surveillance as long as they all met at Taiba," Mueller said.

LOWER MANHATTAN — Con Edison said Monday that it cannot stop the planned 13-story mosque and community center from rising near Ground Zero, despite earlier reports to the contrary.

Although Con Edison owns 49-51 Park Place, one of the buildings that would be torn down to build the Ground Zero mosque, the utility does not have legal authority over what happens to the site, Con Edison said in a statement.

The New York Post reported Sunday that Con Ed’s ownership of 49-51 Park Place could be an obstacle for the Islamic center.

However, Soho Properties, the mosque's developer, signed a long-term lease on the building last year and “has rights to use, alter, demolish or renovate the building,” Con Ed said.

The utility plans to eventually sell the former substation building to Soho Properties, as long as the developer pays a fee set by an independent appraiser.

Regardless of whether the sale goes through, plans for the Islamic center, called Park51, can still move forward under the current lease, which lasts until 2071, Con Ed said.

“We are following our legal obligations under the lease,” Con Ed said. “We will not allow other considerations to enter into this transaction.”

According to city records, Sharif El-Gamal, CEO of Soho Properties, paid $700,000 last year to take over the lease on the Park Place building, which most recently housed the Burlington Coat Factory and was heavily damaged during the terrorist attacks of 9/11.

El-Gamal also bought the adjacent 45-47 Park Place for $4.85 million and plans to knock down both buildings to make way for the new center.

A spokesman for El-Gamal did not respond to a request for comment.

Mischief in Manhattan
We Muslims know the Ground Zero mosque is meant to be a deliberate provocation

BY RAHEEL RAZA AND TAREK FATAH, CITIZEN SPECIALAUGUST 9, 2010

Last week, a journalist who writes for the North Country Times, a small newspaper in Southern California, sent us an e-mail titled "Help." He couldn't understand why an Islamic Centre in an area where Adam Gadahn, Osama bin Laden's American spokesman came from, and that was home to three of the 911 terrorists, was looking to expand.

The man has a very valid point, which leads to the ongoing debate about building a Mosque at Ground Zero in New York. When we try to understand the reasoning behind building a mosque at the epicentre of the worst-ever attack on the U.S., we wonder why its proponents don't build a monument to those who died in the attack?

New York currently boasts at least 30 mosques so it's not as if there is pressing need to find space for worshippers. The fact we Muslims know the idea behind the Ground Zero mosque is meant to be a deliberate provocation to thumb our noses at the infidel. The proposal has been made in bad faith and in Islamic parlance, such an act is referred to as "Fitna," meaning "mischief-making" that is clearly forbidden in the Koran.

The Koran commands Muslims to, "Be considerate when you debate with the People of the Book" -- i.e., Jews and Christians. Building an exclusive place of worship for Muslims at the place where Muslims killed thousands of New Yorkers is not being considerate or sensitive, it is undoubtedly an act of "fitna"

So what gives Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf of the "Cordoba Initiative" and his cohorts the misplaced idea that they will increase tolerance for Muslims by brazenly displaying their own intolerance in this case?.....................>>>>.......................>>>>............................http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Mischief+Manhattan/3370303/story.html

Peterson offers state help moving ground zero mosque
BY MICHAEL GORMLEY The Associated Press

NEW YORK — New York Gov. David Paterson offered state help Tuesday if the developers of a mosque near the site of the Sept. 11 attacks agree to move the project farther from the site.
Paterson, a Democrat, said that he doesn’t oppose the project as planned but indicated that he understands where opponents are coming from. He said he was willing to intervene to seek other suitable state property if the developers agreed.
“I think it’s rather clear that building a center there meets all the requirements, but it does seem to ignite an immense amount of anxiety among the citizens of New York and people everywhere, and I think not without cause,” Paterson said in a news conference in Manhattan.
The developers declined to comment. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who last week made an impassioned defense of the project planned for lower Manhattan, declined to comment through a spokesman.
“I am very sensitive to the desire of those who are adamant against it to see something else worked out,” Paterson said.
Paterson said he expects the state Public Service Commission, which must sign off on the Corboda Initiative’s project, to follow the law and not politics in its review.
Paterson noted that “we really are still suffering in many respects” from Sept. 11 and that impassioned feelings were bound to emerge from a mosque just a couple of blocks from where nearly 3,000 people died at the hands of Muslim extremists.
He noted that Muslims died in the Sept. 11 attacks, too, and that “we have to remember that sometimes it’s the fanaticism of religion that have driven people to do what they do, not the worship of the religion itself.” .........................>>>>...............................>>>>.....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01301&AppName=1

Mike catches holy hell in poll
By SALLY GOLDENBERG

Mayor Bloomberg's popularity rating has dropped to its lowest level in five years, in part because of his ardent defense of a proposed mosque several blocks from Ground Zero, according to a poll released yesterday.

New Yorkers' approval of their third-term mayor (pictured) dipped to 49 percent, down from 56 percent in April, as 53 percent of those surveyed said they disagree with his position on the mosque, according to the Marist survey.

"The mosque is not doing him any good . . . He's certainly on the wrong side of public opinion on that in the city," said pollster Lee Miringoff, director of Marist College's Institute for Public Opinion....................>>>>...................>>>>................http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/mike_catches_holy_hell_in_poll_qHNIOoNZcqXjig9JUmj2sK
