At the 6/9/2010 TB meeting, Frank Salamone spoke, rather eloquently I might add, in favor of giving ALL RESIDENTS (not just property owners)  the right to vote on the Ambulance Tax District.  FS made it clear why absentee ballots are necessary… allowing the homebound, military serving overseas, etc the right to vote on an issue that will impact ALL residents.    FS has displayed professionalism in his comments during the TB meetings and has proven to be an excellent advocate for the residents of Rotterdam.   He will be up to speed at election time and ready to serve when elected.
Speaking of TB candidates, where, oh where, is this Wayne Calder?   I don’t think he will have the opportunity to depend on the “learning curve”  and “transition” excuses that the current TB Dems have been using since January!

Intelligent candidates for elected office should consider the opinions of residents and others that are voiced in public forums including this message board.  The points of opposition cited by Salamone were expressed here long before the issuance of his press release.

These are the only two choices rotterdam will have. If FS wins, it will be by default. Cause it appears that the rotterdam residents aren't going to vote in another dem at this rate.

And who will help calder campaign? The same bunch that campaigned and supported this present bunch? Will this present bunch be his support? No one is going to be able to campaign in favor of calder without saying that he could do a better job than his present electedparty buddies.

Calder will have to distance himself from the present sitting town board if he is to even have a chance.

Bumble, I think you are mistaken and Clubhouse, where have you been?

As Brad points out, the issues of absentee and military ballots was posted on here and advocated long before Johnny (FS) come lately.  As far as everyone in the town voting on this issue, why?

Who is paying for the service???  You're going to tell me that every resident in the old army depot deserves to cast a vote on this issue?  How about those living in long pond village?  Really?  Don't give me that argument that they pay for it through their rent, because if that's the case they can ALL expect an increase in their next rental agreement.

As for delaying this vote til after the election, how convenient.  Parisi owns this issue and now (you do have to give him credit) he manipulates a delay on the vote.  Didn't he already vote YES on the resolution to create the tax district?

So now we get to Salamone v. Calder.  I don't care how many times Salamone goes to the podium or how good he sounds, people are going to see right throughj him as nothing more than a Parisi puppet who is another contributor to the division of the Republican Party.  He placed himself in the fight between Parisi and Amedore and that will not bode well for him.

Some of you will find this interesting, I ran into John Mertz at Price Chopper last night and asked his opinion on the mess in Rotterdam, his answer "I'm retired and have no opinion". Needless to say, that's not the answer I expected and was actually taken back a bit.  He made small talk about the kids and working a lot of hours on the job, but to me, I don't quite get how someone so opinionated and was supposed (or at least he purported) to be a leader in our community could shrug it off?  I just found it very odd.

calder will have the dem, con, and most likely indp line also.  the wfp line may be up for grabs - but oh wait thats right franks brother pissed them off with the crap he pulled two years back.

so salamone gets the rep line

the dems have money, resources, man power.

reps have a fractured committee mostly due to FS's handler parisi - so frank doesnt even have full support of reps in town an every amedore supporter will not support FS

this vote will be alot closer than you might think

FS - hasnt taken a stand on anything!  what he has accomplished is PURE POLITICAL POSTURING, those that follow issues see right through his bullsh@t.   His position is that he is for an "open and fair election process" - oookkkkk - who isnt?

where is his stance on REMS? Mohawk? spot zoning?

FDG has taken a stand on development, he's all for it and the residents will just have to deal with it, ex Floral Ave apartments.

Maybe he just didn't want to talk to YOU about it because he knew it'd end up here?

Where do you think he got these ideas from ?

Caulder was sitting in the back of the room. He introduced himself to me before the meeting and claimed he was against the ems tax.
The real test will be whether he takes a position against it...publicly.

First, I don't know why we're is still talking about a vote we do not need to have, rendering the discussion of absentees, eligible
voters, BIDS, etc. irrelevant anyway.

Second, Parisi did not vote on the taxing district...he was not a Board Member at the time. And it was Ms. DiLeva who led the charge
to postpone this suspiciously designed vote...Parisi and Martin simply agreed with her, as reflected in their votes to cancel the date.

Third, I am not surprised that Mertz has no comment on politics...his job now depends on him keeping his mouth shut and staying
out of political battles.

Calder, like most potential politicians, will put his finger in the air and say whatever will win him votes. More than that, it will be interesting to see who will actually take a stand and back him. Will FDG, MM, BG, ND, DM, EE??? And will he really want to be connected with them? His party affiliation and the people who campaign for him may result in political suicide for him.

As far as FS.....whether these ideas on issues are his or not doesn't really matter. All people see is another voice that will speak for them. People know that he's a parisi puppet, but right now with this merry band of idiots............parisi shines!

What's the alternative......another dem?

Gadfly, couple of things.  I agree 100% it should go out to bid.

Parisi most certainly voted to create the ambulance service and then setting the date for the vote.  The town board had to adopt the resolution BEFORE it could go to a vote, because it is the action of the town board that the voters would actually ratify.

You seem to be pretty good at seeing throuigh the BS, surprised Parisi has been successful in pulling one on over you.

Also, how does Mertz's job depend on him keeping his mouth shut and staying out of political battles?  Are you saying someone threatened his job?  If so, who?  I also highly doubt you know what you're talking about on this.
