Ditto. It'll save the town a nice chunk of change.
If she resigns, she will still collect her pension and her successor will collect her salary -- so there will be no actual savings to the taxpayers. So practice some Christian kindness for a change -- because the way you talk you give the Knights a black eye. |

I guess some folks are just heartless bastards.
it's not heartless.....it's reality.....and life isn't fuzzy-wuzzy Beave.....her family can pay to take care of her.....that's how it works... those folks who voted for that salary and that benefit and then continued it for all these years owe the town a big F'EN apology.....why? because they only thought of helping one person and NOT the entire town..... they didn't have to make that law......we wouldn't be having this stupid conversation if it weren't for the nattering naboobs of yesteryear...... |

She ALREADY is collecting a pension - it makes no difference. "Christian kindness" doesn't tell me I have to pay someone for NOT doing a job - it doesn't tell me to continue to support someone who's incapable of performing her duties - as evidenced by the past nearly year out of the office ... etc, etc. |

I cannot believe that her children would be so stupid to let her go back to work, even for one day. It would be an embarassment for EE to try to with full blown dementia.
Besides keeping MG in the Deputy Clerk position allows EE to keep collecting. As long there is a Deputy Clerk, she doesn't even have to show up for one day, much less one second.

No savings?????? Uh, where did you learn your math. She collects a pension She collects full salary Her replacement collects salary If she resigns, she collects her pension, her replacement collects salary. and a second position can be eliminated thus resulting in a SAVINGS to the taxpyers! Now if there is a town clerk getting paid X and a deputy getting paid Y, and EE resigns, and if there will still be two employees (suppose a deputy becomes clerk and a new deputy comes in), yes, there still would be X + Y paid by the taxpayers, HOWEVER, in return for us paying for X + Y we were only getting a return on Y and nothing from X. In effect we were throwing money at services not provided. |

I will say, she has been rather well-liked by the people. For so long.
And for most of us, I'm sure our issue isn't about EE herself, but the fact that a person is getting paid for doing nothing costing us money.
And we're not nosy about what her medical issue is, we trust that all required medical documentation is submitted on a regular schedule just like every employer requires (public AND private).
I certainly don't begrudge anyone from working at a job that they love no matter what their age, but when someone has worked most life and they get to be in their 70's, it's not that we might say that people are too old or they are costing us money or anything, it's you really want people to start reaping a reward from years of working, that is called an enjoyable retirement. |

EE shares in the responsibility here. First, she was forgetting many things at town hall. Second, she did admittedly break the law. Third, she knows (I think) she's screwing over the rotterdam taxpayers.
The other ones that share in the 'missing rotterdam town clerk' issue are the FIVE sitting on that town board!! They could have lowered her salary when compiling the 2011 budget.
Not ONE of them has publicly addressed the issue. FDG is the ONLY one who mentions EE when asked. Rotteramians may not like the respond, but at least he gives one.
FDG should put forth a last minute resolution to lower EE's wages and then the other four would be forced to publicly deal with this on going issue. |

If she resigns -- her successor would receive her salary and - in all likelihood - a Deputy Town Clerk would still be needed. You need two full time persons in that office to do all the various tasks. On another thread - there is an issue raised about verbatim minutes of Town Board regular meetings and agenda meetings --- just preparing those takes several hours of time .. if uninterrupted. |

And you are a dunce fool for supporting Hugh Farley when he takes vacations with family members to Hawaii and Disney World -- and sends the state tax payers the bill for $85,000. The cheap s.o.b. is raking in a over a $250,000 a year between his state salary, state lulus and state pensions -- and he can't spend his own money on his family vacations. |

Rotterdam’s town clerk who isn’t there
When longtime Rotterdam Town Clerk Eunice Esposito was caught last year abusing her powers as a notary, some people said she should be spared punishment, which she largely was, because she’s a nice old lady. At 84 she still is that, but it doesn’t entitle her to remain in Florida with some unspecified health condition and collect $53,000 a year for a job she hasn’t done for nearly a year. If there’s no way for the town to get her out, and there doesn’t appear to be, she should have the decency to resign. Since Esposito is an elected official, there are no set rules for when she shows up or offi cial sick leave policy for her. Neither, apparently, is there a chance for her to bank sick leave and get a payout at the end. If there were, the cost to the town for her absence now would be less, because all or some of the $53,000 could be used against the payout. While town leaders can’t remove her, they did have one good option that could have forced the issue while saving the town money: reduce her salary to $1 until she comes back. But that would have had to be done when the budget was adopted in November or elected officials’ salaries were set last month, and nobody brought it up — not Democrats or Republicans on the Town Board, not Esposito’s fellow Democrat, Supervisor Frank Del Gallo. .......................>>>>..........................>>>>.......................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01101&AppName=1

I highly doubt that EE will return to her position of town clerk. If she does, people will be shocked. I'm also surprised that the gazette hammered 'one of their own' (dem)!
Just heard that the 67 year old TC in Galway will not run for re-election. She will retire. It will be interesting to see if this one returns like EE did. Although Galway seems to be quicker on the draw and one step ahead of rotterdam. |
